    Silentstroke™ drumheads are the ultimate in low-volume drumheads, designed for quiet practice applications where standard drumset volumes are an issue.
    Remo Silentstroke drumheads with Zildjian L80 cymbals and Razer speakers allow Devon Taylor to play as hard and as loud as he wants on his actual drum set up!

      Weirdly enough, I feel like the tone of these silent drum set actually sounds perfect for this song. I feel like regular drums would have to be EQ'd a lot to make them sound smaller in the mix.

      I was gonna say the same as Paul he's murdering it for sure I just almost wonder if on regular heads with reg cymbals would it be too much?

      I think it's more difficult to play on these type of surfaces than an actual drum kit, as these heads & cymbals don't give -they are dead with very little rebound.

  • @handidrummed
    @handidrummed 7 років тому +16

    I used this setup but with the Gen 16's (before this came out). The snare is still fairly loud unless you turn off the snares, so I usually threw a practice pad on top. Also if you live above someone, the bass drum may still bother people if it comes through the floor. But really, this is the perfect low volume setup between having to choose between this, silencer pads, and electronic drums.

    • @taylormaid6721
      @taylormaid6721 Рік тому

      Backing the snares from the head a little also lowers the volume while preserving the integrity

    If you're wondering how to make the silentstrokes feel more like an acoustic kit i put kick patches on mine which make it feel more like an actual kit, gives a bit more attack to the drum too

    I used the L80/Remo SS combo on the kit in my duplex. It never gets above 85dB. That, combined with attenuators on all the amps lets my 5 piece metal band be able to practice in my basement and be quieter than a vacuum cleaner. Admittedly it was a bit strange at first, but better than not jamming at all!

    +remopercussion *Thanks for the demo of the Silentstroke™ in action.* These new heads should be able to drive Diplomat resonants on toms to a suitable volume for the difficult outfit situation I have at OMS Japanese Christian Church (Walnut Creek, CA, USA), where the Yamaha® RY2T4 (with MSD14AF center drum) and Paiste® cymbal outfit are too powerful for the limited volume of Shinoda Hall with Pinstripe batters and Ambassador resonants. The Zildjian® L80 cymbals are shortlisted for acquisition for the same reason.

    This combo is actually not as quiet as all these videos like to make out. Yes its still way quieter than a full acoustic kit - but when I play on my silent strokes and L80 cymbals - my neighbour two doors away says she can hear it. So it's quietER but not exactly silent.

  • @fastfiddler1625

    Tempting. Some people are going to hate the sound, but that's not the point. The point is getting realistic feel and response for practice without dumping three grand into an e-kit. I got the Vic Firth drum mute set (rubber) and I hate it. I just don't practice as much instead of bothering with it. The feel is just wrong. It's tolerable for the drums, but the cymbals? Ick. The cymbals should not be squishy. You also have to rebuild the hihat clutch every time you want to use them (which is as little as possiblte. They are also thick. The stock hardware that came with my kit was a problem because the pads on, you could barely get the nut on the stock hihat clutch and cymbal stands. If you're really pinched, then the VF is better than nothing. But if you have the money for these, do this instead.

  • @retrorenaissance9497
    @retrorenaissance9497 6 років тому

    im just curious about the cymbals durability. im worried theyd break really fast

    • @tamasonor4011
      @tamasonor4011 6 років тому

      They're not great. I don't play hard at all (I haven't broken a real cymbal in over 20 years) but my L80 set started to form little cracks between the holes in under 6 months. It's a real pity as they're a great idea and fantastic solution for drummers in built suburban areas who need to practice, but Zildjian need to put some research and development into creating a more durable product. They've got the idea, now they just need the tech to match.
