When I visited the stunning and incomparable fairytale city that is Bruges nestled in the northwestern part of Belgium, there were three delicious things I quickly learned were their claims to fame: Beer (it's everywhere and some of the finest in the world), Chocolate (also everywhere and also some of the finest in the world), and the inspiration for this recipe - Waffles! Chances are you've had fluffy Belgian Waffles in your own corner of the world but I'm less-inclined to think you had them with beer in the batter, which we learned is how they're commonly made in Belgium at a super fun Beer & Waffles class we took. And given Belgium's quality of beer, it makes sense! The fluffy and cake-like waffles don't have a beer-heavy flavor but rather a hint of the type used in the batter - so whichever you choose, go with your favorite (or simply use seltzer or even ginger ale in place of it)! This recipe is super easy, fast and a hit every time.

My wife said you can tell when the waffle is done is when the steam stops. She always did the egg white trick. Maybe because she was Norwegian. No matter, she was an outstanding cook and baker. God has her now and I miss her. 😢

In august I got myself and my sister the complete library of all Jeff’s cookbooks for Christmas. I began using my set right away. I love the orange book the best but find great information and delicious recipes in all of them! Merry Christmas everyone!🎄

👍🏻 the way you separated the egg and fluffed the whites, make a huge difference in the final product. They are so fluffy!!

That's amazing. I wonder when I order Belgian Waffles here in the states at restaurants if they make it like this? I doubt it.

I have that waffle maker. I leave it in 2-3 minutes. The light turns green but it’s still not quite done so I set my timer

    Hi Jeffrey,
One question. Do they make the Belgian waffles with fruit and cram on top? That’s how I usually make them.

I’ve been to Bruges many times, and I’ve never seen their batter look like that. It’s more of a yeasty dough that has been formed in a ball and has chunks of butter mixed in and when it melts it makes little pockets, like a pie crust.
I don’t know what class you went to, but I think they made it easy for the tourists.
Also, I’ve never seen a waffle shop in Bruges offer syrup with the waffle. It’s fruit, melted chocolate, Nutella, and whipped cream.
But for an American recipe this looks leveled up for sure.

I watched your video on INSTANT POT MAPLE GLAZED BABY CARROTS and need to know how much water should I put in the pot if I triple the recipe? I would also like to know if I can prepare them the night before and put them in the fridge for the next day?

Those look yummy. Being from the Deep South, they need some fried chicken on the side.

I like wheat beer. Is that still ok to use wheat beer for this recipe?

I was thinking 7UP or Sprite, but cream soda sounds good, too. Will FANTA red cream soda turn the batter pink? Inquiring minds want to know...
I might have to try this.

beer waffles are better than wine waffles but i prefer carbonated bourbon waffles or ionized brandy waffles .....WAFFLES BUY WAFFLES WITH TASTY SYRUP!!!!
