I've been to Japan in September a few times, and have noticed that it is very hot and humid during that month. Make sure you bring clothes that will be light and airy. Plus, bring lots water and a fan! Take lots of breaks in between! They sell electric travel fans for about 1000¥, super cheap and very convenient! Saved my butt on my last trip. Haha. A note about JR Passes, while you need to buy them in advance, it is possible to buy them too far in advance because they will have a redeem by date! I learned this the hard way on my last trip, but the JR people were very nice and got me my pass anyway.

Rosie A. October is a much better time to visit Japan anyway imo. The weather is much better and you can start to see some beautiful fall foliage. I’d recommend going in the last half of the month.
Christopher Brickey i really would love to go during the fall, but i’m a college student and i’m planning for 3 weeks, so it wouldn’t work out unless i went during december since i’ll have a whole month off, but i’m not a fan of winter at all, i’m very sensitive to the cold! i might have to push it all the way back to next june :(

I can't recommend the JR Pass enough. It makes using most public transport a breeze, and allows you to take the Shinkansen all over Japan, saving you hundreds of dollars in fares. I always learn where to go and what to see as I travel. His way of travelling ensures that your entire trip is seeing things you can find out about from America or wherever your home is. My point is, some of us (especially first timers) have zero clue where to go first so we don't waste our time going to a place that's probably gonna be swarmed with tourists. Some of us are actually interested where locals go and do alternative places to go eat and visit. Japan is such a great country and Tokyo is def an awesome place to explore. Love all your videos. My boyfriend and I are first time travelers, do we just follow this guide and also for the hotel does each person have to pay the hotel price or can one person pay it in full?
@@Batzy8 From my understanding Japanese hotels don't charge per person, they charge per room. Just don't go over their capacity limit on the room you are booking. Unless you are booking at a capsule hotel - that is per person.

JR pass is great value, but a bit stressful at arrival in Japan as you need to go join a huge queue into the extremely warm busy JR ticket office to exchange/get it validated for travel. So just be prepared to be patient waiting in line! Also agree with other comments to get studio Ghibli museum tickets, get them online as soon as they are released for a selection of dates and times, very popular but we loved it!
Uhh... which one are you using? There's really no reason to activate at the airport unless you trip comes out to under 7 days... or I suppose a non-Tokyo focused 14 days, even. In almost all cases you can't use the pass on both trips to the airport, so may as well exchange in the city somewhere, where there is typically no line.
redfish337 oh, got it from website called Japan experience last time. Perhaps we went about it wrong then but this is what their website says too: “In order to activate your JR Pass, you will have to exchange your voucher at a JR office. These offices can be found at the airport or at major train stations, opening times will vary. At the office, fill out the form with your details and show your passport. When exchanging the pass you will need to decide a start date, this does not have to be the same day as the exchange date, however it cannot exceed 30 days after the exchange” will take your advice for next time thanks!
@@lisamcnab1228 That's correct. But while there is potentially a long line at the airport, there are hardly ever significant lines at the city train stations. I think I had to wait 15 minutes at Ueno once. Tokyo Station, my longest wait was 5 minutes. So, you exchange your pass in the city, not the airport. RARELY, your pass may be able to pay for trains both to and from the airport, in which case you need to exchange at the airport if you want to save money (still may not be worth your time if the line is hour+). But most people visiting long enough to justify a JR pass won't be able to cover BOTH the trip to and from the airport on the pass, so you may as well line it up to use the pass coming back to the airport, which means you just pay going into the city and exchange there, where there are usually no lines. (BTW, probably a moot point from later this year, as they seem to be getting rid of exchange orders)
redfish337 sounds a much better idea!thanks for advice, will note that for future travels. Still saving up to go back! Ooh, that’s good if they are planning on changing the system too.
@@lisamcnab1228 Even if they change the system it still requires activating the pass as far as I can tell. Which means looking up a file rather than just using the piece of paper. It saves you shipping... it may not actually save time activating. So it still may see long lines at the airport. Also seems to work like a regular ticket and let you pass through without showing to staff and lets you make reservations more easily. While they are PROBABLY keeping the new system, you also must realize that these efforts are to ease congestion during the Olympics. Since automating more of the system increases the likelihood of fraud (basically why it's still a pain in the ass in the first place), they could always go back to the old system once things settle down a little bit.
A tip, from travelling from USA, for buying tickets or making reservations for Disneyland online: they only accept JCB and Mastercard. Even though their website states you can use Visa, you may experience difficulties online. I found this out the hard way after calls to the bank, multiple attempts, and then finally speaking with a Disneyland customer service representative. It was easier to buy our tickets at the Disney Store when we arrived.
This video focuses on tourist only. I wish you could do a video like this but for those people that plans live on Japan ^_^ Tips on how to buy a small lot somewhere, maybe purchase a land on the mountain side or just a few km from the nearest city LOL.

We also went to the baseball and had some awesome seats! A definite must do on your visit to Japan 🇯🇵 😊
Thanks a ton for making this video! Planning for a trip that's roughly 2 weeks long during September. Information like this is a life saver!
I didn't know about the reservation culture even though I have been to japan. Probably because I did not do any expensive activity. Gonna keep this in mind when I go for A5 wagyu beef.
Some good/reasonable tour guides (private/group) recommendations would be good too. And places to stay in Tokyo in terms of accessibility & safety.
Going to Japan tomorrow! It's my 4th time, but your restourant's recommendations are so useful! Most places from my plan list are from your videos! Thank you so much :)
I wish i knew these things when i went there. I'll use these ideas next time i come to japan again
I have watched so many of your videos and always wondered why you had an among us character on your shirt with kyo at the end. Clever shirt design being toe kyo
I love your video Paolo, me and my girlfriend is coming to Japan around March. Your videos has help us plan our adventures.
Paolo, I went last year using many of your tips, so again thanks for your postings. They are always handy!
I miss Japan so much
I’m flying to Japan in a week and I just learned the hard way that Michelin restaurants are booked months in advance 😭
This man is my only tour guide in japan
Paolo would you please review Tokyo's street food to open our eyes to the mouth watering selection of street food in Tokyo and give you the inside scoop on what to eat?
9wyn He did it allready
The medicine section was the most useful. Thanks.
I am taking my first trip to Tokyo in a couple weeks, and your videos have been very helpful! You should do tours or meet & greets!
Got my SIM, Pasmo Card, booked our reservation at the Pokemon Cafe, learned a few basic words, downloaded Google Translate, and am prepared to master the transit system!
What a cute fur baby!
@@jamieg3132 OMG! I’m about to cry 😭 cause we’re booking at the Hilton Tokyo and I only have to pay 2k-3k for 9 nights for two people!! I would be so happy if I only have to pay per room!! So what you’re saying is true? Per person is only for capsules???
@@Batzy8 best to double check in the hotels website if possible. I booked on Expedia, so it was pretty easy to see any price differences as you changed the number of guests
By the way, will start a Paolo's videos review marathon very soon to get the tips all again about what to do and where to be in Japan 😊😊😊
Paolo: “Tried to book 1 week in advance”
Me: *booked all mine about 6 months in advance cuz being British means you don’t leave it that late* Huh
Btw, happy Mobal customer here, totally worth it, will be getting another on my next trip
OMG! 100k subs left! HELLO 1M PAOLO!🎉 thank you for this!
the info was great nice video cant wait to get to Japan :)
Hi Paolo, great video as always, thanks for sharing! 😊
Will be in Japan next month, all advices noted down 🙂
Thank you for the valuable and thorough information! I hope to visit Japan, someday.😊
Love your videos!!!! Can’t stop watching!
Watching this the day before I get on the plane to Japan.
Ohboy
It would be awesome to see day in a life video from japanese e-sport players!!! :D
Those train passes are definitely worth it. But I think for the Shinkansen one can use the pass only for the Kodama and Hikari trains.
Coming at the end of March! So excited!
Thanx for the update post. Looking forward next week being there.
Thank you for the tips because i will travel to Japan (Fukuoka)
Great and informative to know! Not going anytime soon, but definitely a trip I want to go to with my family someday.
This video focuses on tourist only.
I wish you could do a video like this but for those people that plans live on Japan ^_^
Tips on how to buy a small lot somewhere, maybe purchase a land on the mountain side or just a few km from the nearest city LOL.
