I'm a first year 3D game artist student. I animated a cat turning around as part of a project. It looked like shit but at least it moved its legs properly. I would have been bloody embarrassed to hand that Zamazenta turning animation in for my project and I don't even get paid to make my crap!?

The fact people need to remember is that Lets Go had less development time than Sword and Shield yet they can get basic things right that Sword and Shield couldn't in terms of the graphics
I'm honestly convinced that Sword and shield started out as either a 3DS game or a mobile game and was later ported to Switch.
Because Let's go at least looks like it was made for the Switch.
It's incredible how last year almost everyone was disappointed by LG and either waited for the new games or got told that "it's just a spinoff, it doesn't matter to you you'll just get the real game next year" and now we realise that LG was the better product of the two in terms of polish

What’s worse is that if cinderace uses double kick on a dynamax Pokémon it uses its kicking animation but just hops 2 times when double kick is used on a regular encounter

Also in Oras (maybe X and Y as well I’ll play that game later in the summer) there were a few 3D animated moments and they looked really smooth. That was on the freaking 3ds. That’s kinda pathetic compared to Sword and Shield’s animated moments
@@ps4pro668 Plus in X and Y at least it makes sense why the 3d models look lifeless because if they add more animation it will lag the game. Heck the gen 6 games couldn't handle it if the models are big and terrain like sandstorm is up to the point the game can even crash. But a reminder that this was Gamefreak's first time with 3d and in the Gen 7 games they completely cleared the lag despite still having the same 3d models.
The legendary pokemon is so powerful this gen they can moonwalk and turn 180 degrees while doing so

I always say that the 3D games are just the 2D games, but with 3D models. Back when it was 2D they could get away with the lack of actual animations because a lot of it would come down to imagination, but now that you can actually see limbs, they can't just be lazy about it otherwise it... turns out like this.

Lol helicopter Steelix was a thing since X/Y (its animation for Gyro Ball). It was stupid yet lovably glorious back then because the technical limitations were understandable, but right now it's just another thing to laugh at Gamefreak about, not with.

The final evolution of Scorbunny has a kicking animation. It uses it for Heatbutt and, in Dynamax Form, when using Max Flare. But for some reason not when doing Double Kick.

The real reasons they hunt down all the fan projects is so there is no proof how easy is to make a decent Pokemon game.
Basically, Gamefreak doesn't treat the fanbase with much respect, thinking we're all hyper & obsessive, but we've all shown that we fans know & respect the franchise far more than the actual developers do. In fact, fans are actually hacking the game to fix all of its flaws, particularly the National Dex crisis by implementing every single Pokemon not in the games. I even hear adding them only takes a couple of hours, showing just how lazy GF was being.
I rather go playing Pokémon Insurgence, Uranium, Gaia, Castaway, Reborn, Rejuvenation, Axis, Eurobos, Phenix Rising then this monstrositie.

@@ablackcatcrossesyourpath6222 Like originally some people thought they were based off of Sköll and Hati, two apocalyptic wolves (and the children of Fenrir, which one of Zygarde's forms is based off of) who hunt down the sun and moon gods in Norse mythology, or the two wolves (that I forgot the names of) who are companions to Odin, like his two ravens. I think the latter is somewhat true, especially considering Sköll and Hati were supposed to be evil (their names literally mean Mockery and Hatred), but even then, that's an inspiration for design, not a _theme_
I do really like the legendary doggos --and the dracolich/beholder third legendary-- but to me their storyline feels so incomplete compared to the rest of the game. At least they have lore, but, still.

@@fukyu2 Even Apple puts in some effort when making their phones. Their Bionic chips for their phones are one of the fastest processors you can get in a phone today, and they improve it every year. I feel like Gamefreak gets worse every game they put out since Gen 6.

Honestly difficulty aside LGPE were some of the most fun mainline games Ive played in a bit. (my fave is gen 5) It was so refreshing to have good graphics and decent animations and hos expressive the game was and the pokemon following you

The Scorbunny line: Has a unique kicking animation that it uses for moves like Tackle.
Also the Scorbunny line: Does a pathetic little hop when using Double Kick, a move that specifically _kicks_ the target.

@@DarthTalon5 If you want to say practical, maybe. Logically, it doesn't make any sense. You wouldn't find Ice-type pokemon inside an active volcano, or Fire-type pokemon underwater.
If they kept cave systems, it wouldn't be that outlandish to have two weather patterns on opposite ends of entrances.

Having 2 weather systems at a time would be more of a pain in the ass than having 8 different ones shuffled throughout those 2 larger areas when it comes to completing your dex. This is a positive for gameplay. Not a negative.
its because of the dynamaxing pokemon. Most dyna max moves effect the weather, its why the wild zones weather is 9 kinds of messed up so it honestly does make sense.

To those who it may concern:
You can like these games, you can enjoy them, and you can have fun with them.
But if you tell me there’s objectively nothing wrong with them, that the criticisms many people have concerning these games are only nitpicks, aren’t important, or somehow make the games better, I will tell you you’re wrong. Because that is objectively false.
The features removed, the subpar visuals and animations, the increase in price despite those things, and the lies fed to us by Game Freak, those are all issues. Major issues, whether you want to accept that or not.
Maybe these are the best graphics a mainline Pokémon game has had, but the level of polish and care compared to any other major game on the Switch is incomparable. Almost every other major release blows these games out of the water.
We expect better. And we demand better. As consumers we have every right to demand better. Don’t deny us that.

This was in every generation but when presented in open worlds style, is bad.
Honestly, it didn't really bother me that much. The Wild Area is designed to have multiple diverse biomes and areas packed into it, including unique weather. Sure, it's completely unrealistic and looks pretty stupid when you rapidly transition between sections, but it works, purely from a gameplay perspective.
(Still doesn't fix the terrible draw distance though, but whatever.)

We got a cool haunted tower and a sandy region, but everywhere else just feels like the same grassy field/lakeside. it's just crazy thinking that just a generation ago, SM/USUM were pushing the 3DS to its limit. Ik a lot of people didn't like everything in those games, myself included, but there's no denying that Game Freak really tried to made the world, characters and Pokemon detailed and expressive on a limited console. The games wouldn't even run well if they weren't on a 3DS XL. They improved it even more with USUM, which made some environments even more detailed and interactive. But it only took one generation for things to be half-baked
Not to mention they were hard games. They made the totems so hard but I loved Ultra moon, I spent so much time on it.

That was a lie as well, the map for swsh is triangle shaped unlike the botw map which is square shaped, meaning breath of the wild would take up more space If u slap the botw map on top of the swsh map. Not to mention, the only way u can make a "fair" comparison of the 2 maps is if u go south to north In which swsh is slightly bigger in this case, which is honestly sad.

I think most of them got paid off. Gamefreak had to know ahead of time just how shitty their game was, and they weren't willing to let the reviews hold their lazy product back. Either way, I don't trust any of the "critics" anymore. They're all either corporate bootlickers or shameless shills.

The background bit is really a justified gripe. I was replaying Pokémon colosseum the other day, and in Agate village, I battled a dude just outside the Pokémon center. The background was literally the area we were fighting in. Not just the village, but the actual space with the Pokémon center in the background. They modeled all of that for one battle with a random NPC that you aren’t even required to fight. What Game Freak is doing is disgraceful.
And (not surprisingly) that game wasant made by gamefreak.
Its funny (and sad) on how well the pokemon games turn when they arent made by GF, just look at good how the pokemon SNAP game on the switch look and now compare that to the steaming pile of garbage that is sword and shield.
Hell even pokemon stadium on the n64 looks better than swsh.
I'll always pine for the timeline in which the Colosseum series became the standard console counterpart to the portable games.

The Pokémon battle animation also felt like they had personality and thought put into them for the specific moves, even with how few animations they used.

@Low xang yen The DLC is not an improvement, it’s a fix. And it didn’t even fix everything. What we got as the DLC should be AT LEAST what the original games were, and even then it wouldn’t be super good. Considering it’s the Switch, we should have graphics like Breath of the Wild, have all Pokémon, all mechanics (Z-Moves and Megas, and not just keeping the old ones, but adding new ones) ACTUAL high quality animations, and difficulty levels for it to be a good game. The DLC is an acceptable fix, not a good improvement.

Colosseum and Gale of Dakeness: XD did better even though they weren't main series titles and had more limited tools to work with, but to be fair, Game Freak didn't develop those titles.

They look very... ok. Just adequate. Nothing to talk about, really. The starters of this generation honestly made me look back at sun and moons starters and how much backlash they got. And let's be real; Litten, Rowlet, and Popplio look SOOO much better than... Grouker, or whatever that fucking horrid looking pokemon and his final evolutions name is (they also have better names). It's like they're trying to go for another sick looking animal, but they missed the mark. The grass one is a monkey, but he can't top Chimchar. The water one is a moray I think, but I'll say this with utmost certainty: he is by far the worst looking starter I've seen, and I can only name off a few fingers of which pokemon are worse. The fire one is pretty cool, but Litten was better.
