      Even the beloved bloodborne while it did make some ACTUAL changes and innovations is ultimately still much like it's souls brothers. Only the new armored core game and Sekiro was something we got recent(ish) that is genuinely new and innovative.

    I think Godwyn was chosen because he was Maikas only perfect child. Morgott, mohg, Miquella, Malenia, (Melina?), are all cursed in some way shape or form. (Bodyless? Melina is a mystery)

    • @JeffMonsoon
      @JeffMonsoon Місяць тому +23

      Morgott and Mohg were shunned because of their nature as Omens and Marika’s trauma towards the Hornsent. Miquella was forever a child whilst Malenia was harbouring the Outer God of Rot. I think Messmer and Melina were shunned by Marika because of their potential to be ‘kindling’ capable of burning down the central symbol of the Golden Order, the Erdtree. But I was hoping a new DLC would give details on Melina’s backstory😊

    • @-v0n-
      @-v0n- Місяць тому

      I think he was chosen for the only reason that he has a twin and that said twin was Ranni.
      They both were "Killed" during this night, but they shared their death. One died in body, the other one in soul.
      Ranni was close to the Black knife, and needed to die in body because it was a step to be free of the greater will influence. Miquella follow a similar yet different path, by discarding his body through the DLC probably for the same reason.
      Melina though, is a complete mystery. She has links to the black knives as well, to Ranni, she is a frenzy flame hater, has a unique eye that we don't know what it is doing, is the sister of Mesmer and shares the same vision of fire which could link to the fire giant as well, as you need their forge (And there's a lot of Messmer like spears everywhere in the moutaintop)... But yeah, these are pieces but nothing seems to connect them which is pretty sad.

      given that the dlc hints that Marika was aligned with the hornsent at some point (with all of that "betrayal" talks), the Numen women might have targeted Godwyn directly as revenge for whatever Marika did while aligned with the hornsent. Maybe she even helped them hunt shamans, just for the chance to access the Gate of Divinity (and with that hypothesis you would assume that her grief and desire for vengeance must have come from the death of someone specific/some specific people that were close to her, not just shamans in general)

      What's your point? Plenty better options with their souls intact. Malenia has her soul too. Wouldn't it make more sense to let Malenia die and resurrect her? Why Radahn? Not one instance in the main game even remotely addressed any type of relationship between Radahn and Miquella, apart from both having seats at the council.
      Furthermore, choosing a bloodthirsty warmonger as a consort for the so called "Age of Compassion" makes no sense.
      They could even choose to merge Malenia's soul with Godwyn's festering body and give us a proper final boss instead of bringing back Radahn, who until this point had a satisfying ending to his story in the main game.
      If everything is justified, I ask you to tell me one good reason WHY Radahn.

    • @Sinhsseax
      @Sinhsseax Місяць тому

      @@mikeoxlong403 The reason why it has to be Radahn from a story perspective is that in the main game the war between Malenia and Radahn was established, yet the reason for the war is curiously unknown.
      All this time we wondered why Malenia went on her campaign and it turns out it was to kill Radahn, because he wouldn't honor his vow.
      It even harks back to a tiny detail of Malenia saying something we can't understand to him in the story trailer.
      That is the connection between these two characters.
      From a lore perspective, Radahn being a warmonger speaks to the sinister nature of Miquellas age of compassion.
      Miquella will attempt to take everyone's free will and anyone who won't be charmed is a danger and will be erradicated.
      (Which Miquellas Light spell also implies in the description.)
      Secondly, you have to understand that Miquellas mind is that of a child and him just getting really obsessed with Radahn is very much in character.

      The mystery of the divine gate and the fact that we can’t so much as touch it, much less cross its threshold, seems like a deliberate artistic decision. They could have easily designed the arena so that there wasn’t a mysterious gate guarded by a Lord and a God, only for you to realize after defeating them that it is still unreachable. And then you look upwards at the staircase still spiraling into heaven, so high up you can’t even get a good look at it to see where it ends.
      I agree that it felt disappointing, the gate creates that expectation that there’s gonna be one more thing, one more cutscene or item description to sate our curiosity. It allows you to kill basically any enemy two ways. Depleting HP or posture to 0. First of it's kind to give you two ways to beat anything.
      And thanks to the posture system your defense also became a perfectly viable offense. Allowing you to beat most things while being reactive and defensive while still taking skill unlike just blocking with a shield.
      You then also had other new mechanics like the perilous attacks that most enemies would actually use rather than a handful having maybe one move you can jump over in Elden Ring.

    One thing that I never really understood the reasoning behind was Miyazaki’s/Fromsoftware’s decision to not include any additional content whatsoever in the base game, I mean when they announced the map for SOTET was going to be separated from any location in the land between I knew not to expect anything like new locations on the map, new hidden dungeons, or new boss fights to appear in the main game when the DLC came out and it made sense, but if you ask me that’s not an excuse or rather there doesn’t appear to be any reason to not include in the base game content like new items to discover, new dialogue options for existing npc’s, new/additional steps to their quest lines, or even brand new quest lines that may involve entirely new characters as well as characters from the DLC/Realm of Shadow, it’s not like it would have been anything fundamentally new or groundbreaking (which is good on the devs part) but any of these avenues of content would have provided fans of Elden Ring (and especially fans of the lore) with ample content to comb through and allow for satisfying closure to certain unresolved threads in the story that feel like they were intended to be explored, having said that I understand and that there are (like in almost every FromSoft game) various plot points and references that were and are still currently intended to seem ambiguous therefore we should expect certain information to be left out of quests and item descriptions purposefully so as to allow us individually to fill in the gaps in the plot how we each see fit, but as stated in the video most aspects of Elden Ring’s story are a lot more direct compared to previous FromSoft games and a lot of Plot points and Quest lines in ER feel like they are meant to have definitive conclusions, the thing is that in these instances with the information we are given in-game a good majority of the fandom feel as though these “conclusions” weren’t satisfying enough or that they only work as conclusions if there is more to come or if this “definitive conclusion” leads into something else related to the plot in the future, and that therein lies the problem with the uncertainty of Elden Ring’s future as an IP or (if it is to be) a franchise and why many fans are anxious about what games FromSoftware are planning to develop and put out next; so in conclusion while it has already been well established that DLC in FromSoft games rarely adds content that affects the base game in any world-altering sort of fashion so not having that in Elden Ring isn’t the biggest deal and didn’t really come off as surprising (nor should it considering the amount unresolved plot threads and questions that are addressed and answered in the dlc… while also adding even more questions and lose threads, lmao) but even still I personally don’t think it’s unfair to say given the amount of questions regarding the overall lore of Elden Ring that remain up in the air that the lack of inclusion of content in the base game is a missed opportunity on FromSoft’s part, however I will say that the purposeful withholding of certain information does give me reason to hold out hope for (while also understanding there is the possibility that there simply will not be) an Elden Ring sequel game (Elden Ring 2, or whatever lol) as it’s a pretty safe bet that there will be more content that comes out of “the Elden Ring franchise” in what from or capacity we do not know but I am confident in definitively saying that in regards to the lore of the series in whatever form it is in the fans would ideally like the primary source material to be drawn from the game and that another installment in the game franchise would be the very best outcome.

They just want to do other games first. Their commercial potential is huge,and more lore to explore. I’m sure we will get some supplemental stuff in the meantime, some more substantive patches, maybe a published graphic novel. I can see Elden Ring 2 being 10,000 years in the future, and enough time that no matter which ending we chose the world has somewhat reset (since they can’t do 6 separate sequels). One of the reasons I loved Lies of P story so much was because it didn’t really do the vague lore stuff. What you saw was what you got and it was refreshing. • @Nova-Franconia
    @Nova-Franconia Місяць тому +16

    It’s really just the same debate everybody had during the end of DS3, that we’re having now. The amount of people dissatisfied about the fact, that the final boss of the DS trilogy was only introduced one DLC prior, and coming seemingly out of nowhere for people that didn’t pay attention to the story (Gael leaves tons of messages in the Ringed City, and the Painting Girl has dialogue about Gael seeking the Dark Soul), is basically 1 to 1 what the buildup to Radahn was in this DLC, just with Freya and Ansbach.
    Guess what also happened once you beat Gael… pretty much nothing. You got an item you could trade in for like 4-5 lines of extra dialogue from an NPC, a ton of people were mad we didn’t even get a cutscene or anything. This DLC basically traded that dialogue for a cutscene, and people still complained.
    The whole “It should’ve been Godwyn, it should’ve been this person or thaf one…” is also just a rerun of what has already happened before. Back in the day, it just took the form of: “Where’s Velka!? What about Allfather Lloyd!? So Gwynevere marries Flame God Flann, and we don’t get anything about any of them? Gertrude gets one incantation and we just never hear about her again? Gwyn doesn’t make a return!? etc…” and many many more.
    At this point, I’m pretty much convinced we live in a simulation, where the same things are just bound to happen over and over again. The DLC will be beloved in 2 years, and at some point, when we’re waiting for the next FromSoftware title’s DLC, the Fanbase will just do a 180 again… I can already see it now: “Hold on, so mother of Damnation was referenced all over the base game but then doesn’t make an appearance in the DLC!?!?”

    If this is the end, my problem is that it's too open ended. In The Ringed City, we meet Gael at the end of time to finally put an end to this madness. Despite what he's doing, he knows he needs you, or someone like you. He may be determined, but he lacks our unbreakable nature. In the end, we're given hope for a better world after thousands of years of torment. In The Old Hunters, we bring an end to the Nightmare that's been plaguing Hunters of many different ages. Not that they don't deserve the torment, but it can't extend to everyone who participates forever. In the end, we stop the Nightmare and the Hunt and become humanity's next potential rebirth. Dark Souls 1 isn't a choice, it's an ultimatum. But at least there's an end to that chapter. Scholar of the First Sin intrigues us with a potential alternative, even if canonically that alternative was never found.

      Ok while i agree with the sentiment id have to point out miquella was far from insane or self serving. Hes literally given up everything he had, whether its his own flesh, lineage, or even allies, in order to pursue what he thinks is justice. If anything, the implication that he might have literally brainwashed everyone he called allies just serves to make his character that much more human. He was not a villain - he simply thought that there was no other way to make the world a gentler place, which we obviously dont get to see. He used whatever power he had to become a god, just like how the player does the same thing to become lord - in fact, by our standard miquella seems far more reasonable, as we literally murdered EVERYONE that stood in our way (and those who dont too!)

You could argue that his path of sacrifice truly points towards an ultimate higher goal, but then we get the “real” lore behind malenia’s fight with radahn, which points towards a plan, but one based solely on radahn while charming anyone in order to achieve it.
      The reason it feels so lackluster is probably because of a huge retcon and lack of a clear direction. Given the fact that there is so much content centered specifically around miquella, I have no doubt that this is the case to so e degree at least.

Thing is with Marika is that though she was a tyrant, though it may result in death, choice was still an option. In Miquella's world, there will be no choices, no consciousness. Just everyone worshipping him at all times in the name of what he thinks is equality. He's not a good person. He had Malenia attempt to kill Radahn after he told him no, which Miquella isn't used to. He tore Trina out of himself and left her to die at the bottom of a crater. Yeah, she was wilting. She literally can't live without him. She literally tells you to tell them she loves them and even has Blaidd locked in Darriwill's Gaol for his own safety. Why do that if she ultimately wanted him dead anyway?
      Also, Iji mentions his helmet shields him from being found, and he only dies *after* you tell him you had to put down Blaidd, saying he'll join him soon. Meaning he likely removed it for a time so he could be found and die fighting.
      Hell, Ranni doesn't even have Seluvis killed. It's heavily implied that he's another puppet being controlled by Pidia in Caria Manor, and Pidia gets killed by his puppets rising up against him.

    The frenzied flame ending is explained allegorically. Melina takes the shape of eternal death, chasing the flame, which is eternal life (the one great). That's the answer-- it's not terribly complicated.

    I think the SotE was partially a test for their future storytelling. It’s the first time in a soulsborne game that it felt like things are actively happening around me. Like Miquella breaking his great rune, finding ledas notes, etc. usually, everything in the world is already set, and we’re the disrupters. It really felt like I was chasing after miquella. I hope they use techniques like that in the future.

    Be careful what you wish for, Zio. Remember that if Fromsoftware had decided to definitively answer certain burning questions (what happens after FF ending, what's the deal with Marika and Radagon etc), chances are that these answers would be underwhelming and unsatisfying compared to what we've all built up in our imaginations. I personally want the sense of mystery and wonder to be preserved.

    To be honest the last card to make a dlc, is Godwynn and the gloam eyed queen. We got an end to the dragons, Marika, kinda the fingers, and a lot of crucible stuff. But idk if those 2 things would be able to make a whole DLC. It can be like ds1, time travel to the past, when Godwyn was alive, and maybe the Queen.

    I still feel like they will make another DLC. The main reasoning behind this is the preorder emote being a circle above for the base game and a circle to the one side for the DLC. It would make sense to have 1 more going the other direction. This would work with the Elden Ring logo and with the Order emotes being left, right and center (t pose). They also added new spells and incantations that you can not get, similar to what they did with the base game. They said for the base game they had no plans on making any DLC until a few months after the game came out. I feel like in a year we will get a DLC 2 announcment. One can only dream though and I am hoping the preorder emotes is a sign.

    Melina is the gloam eyed queen. The fact she opens her remaining gloam coloured eye, and last words are "destined death" which was the power chanelled by the gloam eyed queen to create god-slaying black flames (which she intends on using again since you've become the lord of frenzied flame). Or at least, she has inherited the gloam eyed queens will. Godwyn was the golden child prized by Marika, weakened by the black knives but ultimately killed by Ranni who needed to sacrifice two bodies to obtain the two centipede-like halves of the death rune. She also killed Godwyn because he embodied the Golden Order, something Ranni wanted to free herself from. She used her own body and Godwyn's. She killed Godwyn's spirit in the process who could not be revived by Marika. Marika in her torment of losing her golden son shattered the Elden Ring. Ranni divested herself of her flesh similiar to Miquella and gained the tarnished as her consort to ascend to godhood. And I can only assume that Ranni and Miquela's relation was strained, as both had the same goal to ascend to Godhood, but had different ideas of how the order of things should be, Miquella wanting to place a spell over everyone for his age of compassion (by control) and Ranni wanting her own age of the stars which is more dark and uncertain (but free from outer god influence).
