For game studios with as much financial comfort as activision, 100%. But scope getting out of hand happens all the time to anyone creating anything, not just the video game industry. But that's why they can pull on the heart strings about it, because it's relatable. Until you realise that they could have hired hilarious amounts of new staff or kept things exactly as they were without any worry about paying their staff for years and years, unlike the rest of the world.
@@pierrealexander8183 Seriously, companies like activision just take an advantage of loyal player bases. Copy and pasting the same game with a different theme every year. It's all about advertising and getting people to pre order their lazy unoriginal product. Why spend all that money planning something new when there's a cult of idiots that will buy it because it's new.
I find it so baffling how good the execs of these companies have it. I can not, nor will I be convinced that the work of someone like Bobby is difficult in any capacity. They throw shit at the wall all willy-nilly, then immediately pull the plug when it isn’t immediately lucritive in its returns.
The day before OW2 dropped, I remember so many quickplay games were just...both teams sitting around with each other until time ran out... It was a genuinely depressing feeling.
People forget that Overwatch died somewhere in 2019 and that OW2 was Blizzard's hail-Mary to save a dying IP. I honestly question whether Microsoft will continue support for the franchise
@@johnsonspark171 the way these decisions were made...so blatantly obvious that the shop overhaul was the "update." You're right that it died in 2019 and I have a sneaking suspicion as well that Microsoft will cut losses

A majority of my teenage years were spent playing OW with my closest friends, and it had to be the most fun I've ever had playing video games. The second I heard they cancelled PVE, I knew it was the end. RIP Overwatch, may you live on in my memories for the rest of time.
the steady shift from team based abilities and cooperation being the big impact, to haveing individual actions being the most impactful things, seriously hurt the games core player base (those that kept playing over the years) This was my final straw. I loved the maintank role. Its focus on teamplay and being the center of each group fight, really made the game into something i loved. Then they removed Maintank and offtank and tried to make each tank able to do what you normaly had your buddy for. It removed my tank partner. I never went back after that.
@@t4kumi704 i kinda was the guy that poured his heart out (shot calls, encuraging, filling, adapting to team mates streanghs and weaknesses....) i was a bit annoying to play with since i would tryhard quite a bit. Well I have idea, and no I am not mentioning Team Fortress 2 as it has been mentioned, you should try find a 100 player server and have a glorious hilarious blast! I have a lot of fun playing with my brother on those!
im just so sad because overwatch is so precious to me, I hate how they ruined it so hard. I want to keep playing, and keep trying my hardest to enjoy it but it wont ever be the same. It is just upsetting.
I'm a TF2 player, I have been since 2016, I briefly played overwatch and overwatch 2 for short amounts of time. To all Overwatch fans, I am genuinely sorry for the loss of a game that had so much potential.
@@Dwarf_Enjoyer tf2 is definitely still worth it, you will definitely get totally rolled in some matches but I think overall it’s worth it. There’s so much to do and so much fun to be had it just never gets old
It's sad that we will never have the same community again. This game made my college. We have a student lounge where no faculty or any school personnel can go inside. I see a group of seniors playing this game and asked them if they want to play with us. We can be as loud as we want. Countless hours of fun and laughter. Best game ever.
I met a bunch of people on ow and when I got out of a really bad relationship those friends were still there and helped me pick up the pieces. I genuinely can’t forgive Blizzard for fucking up this game so badly
PVE cancellation was what broke the camel's back for me, the fact I couldn't efficiently farm out the new content the same way I used to farm every bit of content in OW1 with lootboxes was already upsetting to me, 5v5 was also upsetting but I persevered because "PVE would save the game, right ?" That cancellation made me uninstall soon after and it was the best decision I've made in a while, playing it after that felt like I was taking depression pills in whisky so I simply cut it out of my life, the hard way.
Overwatch 2 was an objective downgrade over the original, but people dealt with it because it was early access, and it was all meant to future-proof the game so it could be updated and eventually maybe surpass the original, the big issues could be hotfixed in some patches. The reason the PVE cancellation was so bad is because not only did they lie to us about what we WERE getting, they essentially admitted that they spent 3 years making the game WORSE, when that time could have been spent on updates to overwatch 1. Everything the community endured for the sake of the future of the IP was for nothing.
Played since 2017, I remember all the way back to the first iterations of Archives. God, the death of my PvE hype killed my enjoyment of this. Back to Mann vs Machine xD
Exactly the same for me, I’ve only gone onto Overwatch like 2 or 3 since they cancelled PvE and each time it’s simply out of curiosity to be like “Game still shit” and yup, game sill shit lol. I haven’t even played a match since the PvE cancellation, I just boot up the game, laugh, and then play something better. It’s just pathetic, loved Overwatch but Blizzard just ran it in to the ground and I’m not gonna support them for that.
I played this game non stop from 2016-2018 with my friends and we had the time of our lives, this game was perfection and we got so much fun out of it. But all good things must come to an end and I'm heartbroken about this and all that's left are fond memories of the good ol days.
They took a perfectly good game and ruined almost every single aspect of gameplay, slapped predatory monetization on it and then didn't even deliver on the main selling point for all the changes. It's astonishing how they managed to completely ruin this game.
@@MrFoolDI think you can cause like you said some people paid money for the sole fact of being able to play pve once it was released and then they turn around and say everything. I was never into overwatch, tf2 just called out to me more, but I feel so bad for everyone who loved the game. I really hope they get their stuff together and make the game you guys deserve much love from the tf2 community.
Luckily with some serious AI platforms on the horizon, the fans will probably be making their own games as 90% of the effort is creating assets and that's what AI is gonna be good at. AAA quality games will no longer be only doable by massive studios with large numbers of employees.
Well i personally, im one of the veterans who has been grinding the game for more than half a decade, i just grind comp i think for the people still played ow2 at the end, this is still better than ow2, atleast its fresh and getting new content
@@Mahoney20x6 im sorry but i still think AI tools are super bad for this industry because its perhaps the biggest and a no turning point into a synthetization of the midia, which if you think games are souless now, if AI gets widespread than they will be much less than a lifeless husk.
Bro i can’t even imagine what the creators of overwatch feels about all that... that must be an horrible feeling, you work hard to make a good game and suddently there are assholes who only want to make more money who destroy your own creation....
if corporations got it through their heads that a good game sells, and will make money cause it's a good game, not cause you stacked mtx after mtx on it, maybe we'll get a new golden era of games.
@@fireblast133 They are incapable of doing that. We would have to live in an entirely different financial system for that to be possible. This is the inevitable end result of corporatization of the arts. Ever since the self-canabalization of GE for the short-term profits of shareholders changed the meta for the financial sector to a focus on the infinite, constantly accelerating "growth" of a company instead of consistent and reliable profit, this path was already charted for us. Big money was always going to enter the medium of video games, and they'll bring with it the same philosophy they do everywhere, because they view all industries and all commodities as essentially the same. It just happens that the philosophy they brought in is inimical to making good art. Jack Welch destroyed GE: he was only able to return those kinds of profits for shareholders because he essentially carved off and sold parts of the company, crippling it in the long term. We're seeing the same thing with video games: they're cashing out on all the reputation and goodwill that these companies had built up to deliver the short-term profits. And the way the system is now, a publically traded company can't shift gears back to long-term sustainable yield, because that's not the meta, and the meta decides what a company is worth: they'd tank the value of the company for shareholders. Just like every other sphere of our lives, as new frontiers dry up, they won't pivot to a different way of doing things, they'll just squeeze everything dry, and try to suck as much money out of it as possible, no matter the cost. Good execs will not solve the crisis in the gaming industry. This is a systemic problem. What we can do is support indie developers and burgeoning game developers' unions. We need to empower the people that care about the art to be able to fight the little battles they can within their companies. Check out Game Workers Unite if you want to learn more.
Me and about 10 of my friends were die hard ow1 players on PS4. Had probably THE most fun times together even went to some OWL events. Such a shame this game that was so many peoples pride n joy destroyed by corporate greed. RIP OW. You've been missed.
You know the thing that hurts the most of all things? The lore, it had potential to be a BIG, with good animations, a good lore team behind it, it could really be an independent team regardless of the game.
@@narius_jaden215 Agree, this was destined to happen as soon as Blizzard owned the game, in another universe, Overwatch is in a company that really cared about it. I mean, look at the lore, it touches so many topics of today, specially about the discussion around A.I and our projection to the future.
Was a die hard OW player for 5 years. Fell out of love right before OW2 released. I have friends who still play but anytime i get drug back into the game i am reminded instantly why i left. The game had so much potential, wasted by greed and mismanagement
I was laughing my ass off the entire video like “HAHA stupid blizzard lost all their ow fans” then the last section just hit me like a truck. It reminded me of all the genuine fun I had and all the friends I made from group finder. The satisfaction of hate watching ow 2 reviews will never amount to the fun I had during ow 1. I didn’t realize what I had till it was gone.
Yup, why would they ever abandon ow1, it was great, why make a completely new game to replace the old instead of just updating the original, oh well 😢🤙
I tried to love this game but I just cant. Its like an addiction that I'm slowly trying to cut out of my life. Or an abusive ex that you love but is no good for you.
I can't remember the last time I had so much fun when this game was released back in May 2016. I have so many fond memories of it, still can't believe they messed up this badly.
Hot take: Overwatch was doomed to devolve even if Blizzard handled it competently. The simple fact that the team sizes are so small yet the roster is so massive means that the toxicity would grow to rival League's, because everyone is constantly whining and complaining about what is fun VS what is effective. Meanwhile, what is fun will rarely be effective because there is quite literally not enough room in a team to have fun. TF2 is 12v12 because the devs knew that teamplay wasn't based on team size, but rather team cohesiveness which can be achieved with basic communication and a mutual understanding and respect for your team. Overwatch looked at CSGO, didn't realize that its small team size was to make the matches shorter and less drawn-out, and decided "yeah that'll totally work."
I actually never got to play Overwatch 1, so I thoroughly enjoyed Overwatch 2 on launch. I fell in love with the PvP, the lore, and joined the og fans in awaiting eagerly for PvE. When they cancelled PvE, it really soured the game for me. Once I finish the battle pass I call it there and barely touch the game till the next season now. From the perspective of a new fan it feels more... sad, than maddening or scandalous. I'll likely never get to play Overwatch 1 ever. The closest I can experience is old UA-cam videos, and they 100% helped me understand the type of betrayal this was for the fanbase. I'm sorry you can't find your fun in Overwatch. Brigitte was the beginning of the end for me. Blizzard’s focus for balance seemed more about making players use different heroes. Instead of trying to make other characters more viable against the dive meta, they just deleted it with a new hero. They never seemed to even try to understand what people thought was fun. They just seemed to decide we should use other heroes more so they broke what was working and never corrected it.
Well said. Every point you made is why I quit a few months ago. I had every single loot box item from ow1 and spent a lot of time having a lot of fun playing it. It’s sad what they did to this game. I’m avoiding any blizzard products going forward until they start putting in effort again.
The fact that they had the audacity to act like loot boxes were a bad thing was just the biggest stroke of disingenuousness. Their loot boxes were one of the few in the industry that actually weren't predatory and you could earn anything you wanted for free. Now they're charging us like 20 bucks for skins that were essentially free for years.
@@FreedomPuppy if this was bliz from 10+ years ago you might be correct but bliz today is just another corporate dev that follows the popular monetizing trends in the industry. They no longer set the bar on quality. I was looking at d4 hoping it wouldn’t be awful but it’s trash too. Some of us have standards and there is literally nothing I find interesting or new coming out of blizzard right now. FYI Bg3 has been amazing and they don’t insult your intelligence. Give it a try if the turn based combat doesn’t scare you off.
Overwatch 2 is a good example of how AAA game companies use anything to feed their greed. Because i believe you can have lootboxes ,battlepasses , etc and still be consumer friendly. Its always the fault of who did the deed in the first place
I do agree with you, but 99% of the time they're done in a predatory way. The main reason I hate Fortnite is for inventing the battlepass model, making almost every game rely on timed FOMO now.
They are a business, meaning they are designed to generate profit and OW is just the vehicle the use for it. Thats not greed, thats just he way the world works buddy
@@padarousou there's a difference between letting the golden goose lay its eggs until old age and harvesting it for its bones modern day business execs tunnel vision on quarterly earnings and cut off their nose to spite their face all the time (look at Unity rn) but OW2 is exceptionally egregious in this respect
@@A.LeMayo The business side of almost any game is going to be rife with things like that, but at the end of the day those practices are a big reason why these games are even able to be developed and maintained at such a high level
(It's a bit of a long one, please don't feel attacked or anything. Just a gamer who feels really tired about the state of the industry and has to ramble a bit...) "Maintained at such a high level"?. OW2 is hardly maintained at all, not to say "high level". The simple truth is, that companies now always search for the minimum viable product the consumers still suck up, to maximize profits. And the main work is to throw enough crumbs on the ground to not let the players starve entirely, while cashing in on every aspect of the game possible. THEY LOCKED HEROS BEHIND A BATTLE BASS FFS. Idk how you see that, but for me, it ruins the "competitive" aspect of OW. Which is, in all respect, literally the only thing now that draws people in and I thought I still might enjoy, until I tried it and realized that I do not. But honestly, being mad or angry at you (or anyone else having that view on gaming) would be unfair. The gaming industry has changed and kinda pushed us into the situation were we defend the games we love, even when we see how they get ruined, because we know without the monetization, they'd simply pull the plug. But the thing is, with the way you think those practices are justified, don't you wonder how those companies even managed to exist? Because by that logic, every big multiplayer title coming out in the time before such heavy monetization existed, surely must've ruined the company maintaining it. But it didn't. In fact, the big players exist because they stand on the shoulders of the giants of old, namely (multiplayer) games that were just good and made people adore the companies that developed them. A bit dramatic, I know, but let me explain. I don't know if you actually were gaming in the early 2000s, but back then, a multiplayer video game not only came out mostly feature complete and bug free. It was supported after launch to get people to buy it, because new content and an active, healthy player base, are the best reason to buy a multiplayer game. Titles like Counter Strike: Source, the early Halo's, the Modern Warfar-Triology of CoD, they all released without classic microtransactions. It was back then that both battlefield and CoD started monetizing existing players, mostly with content packages and DLCs. And oh boy, people HATED it. Because all those great players sold games en masse, and we thought, "How DARE they cut out content to sell it later?! We already paid for the game!" (idk if it was really cut, but anyway). Despite that, it was something that, ultimately, we sucked up because well...the games were just *good*. You don't have to like CoD or Battlefield to appreciate that those older titles just ran smoothly, had lots of content, and a mostly flawless server structure that made people flock back to it time and time again. The first Modern Warfar released in 2007 and was such a success not only because it was "just" a good game: it emphasized replayability not by paid seasons, battle passes and events, but by earning skins for milestones that show others what you archived, unlocking weapons, parts, leveling, chasing records or challenges. And it was good at that, people STILL play it because of those mechanics. Fast-forward to 2019, and most of that is gone. In its place: skins you mostly have to buy, season passes with fomo, and a general feeling of lacking content in comparison to its former iteration. Sure, you get patches, re-balances, and the changing seasons somewhat kept the game fresh. But was it worth all that? Was spending 60-70$ worth it, considering the game makes you feel like you miss out most of it if you don't continue to spend money? That it now completely relies on selling you new stuff to give you a reason to come back instead of focusing on being a good game with fun progression mechanics? To conclude: I really REALLY think we should talk abut what games are worth to us, what we are willing to pay. Games have become bigger and harder to make. The inflation is no abstract thing, but something that has eaten away from the per-unit-revenue every year for like the last 20 years or so and it only gets worse. Devs wanna get paid, the rents for studios are increasing and tech, while getting easier to use, also gets more expensive. Yes, I would pay 80 dollars for a game. Or hell, fuck it and price the games regularly like those special editions they throw around left and right. I, for once, are willing to pay that. IF(!!!!) the game comes out feature complete. WITHOUT microtransactions. WITHOUT hidden, paid content. WITHOUT additional stuff you need to buy, like map packs or "small" dlcs, to have the full experience. JUST...a good game. With great mechanics that keep you engaged. With servers that don't get shut down when the player base dwindles after the first year or so. Idk. Please, let me dream for a little bit longer. It's probably all that's left for us who yearn for "the old days"... @@padarousou

man i preordered ow 1 and it was probably the most fun i have ever had in a game AND I WAS SOLO QUEUEING the soullessness of the "sequel" is incredibly disheartening. I miss the good ol times
It’s nice that both tf2 games (team fortress 2 and Titanfall 2) are seeing a massive resurgence! People are starting realise that modern multiplayer games suck so bad compared to older ones that are not so conserned with making all the money in the world.
When I watched the film Free Guy featuring Ryan Reynolds, one of the biggest things I was confused about was the concept that a massive online game would just completely be replaced by a sequel version of itself. Like what was even the idea there, that for a sequel to exist, the entire original game that people loved would have to be entirely shut down and erased? Well… maybe that was naïveté.
That’s what I’m saying!! It makes no sense to completely get rid of the first! If they tried hard enough, they could’ve added ALL of this to the first one. I’ve told this to some of my best friends and other people, and somehow they don’t seem to get it. OverShit 2 is NOTHING special nor different in the slightest!
Man I really enjoyed Overwatch 1 in its glory days, even if I only played a bit. It really is so sad to see this ip be so corrupted beyond recognition by corporate greed.
As someone who played religiously since OW1 launched until i got burnt out about six months back by Blizz's stupid fucking decisions, the funniest thing was seeing so many people defend such blatantly dumb choices on reddit. So many people yelling "well you dont have to spend money, its all cosmetic!" as if having literally 0 progression without opening your wallet is a viable way to keep people engaged, or "content just seems slow because they're working on PVP!" when PVP ends up getting cancelled, or "if you're upset with the game, stop complaining and just play something else," which, ironically, most people ended up doing, leading to the dead playerbase. It's so sad too, it's such a great game which got absolutely shafted by braindead management. After seeing how good Arcane was, there is 0 reason OW shouldn't be a huge franchise spanning multiple games, movies, shows, etc, but Blizz constantly took the short-term gain approach and drove it into the ground. Fucking disappointing.
Ironically the R34 is all that's left to hang onto as quality content; the very thing Blizzard wanted to distance away from whilst being creepy monsters behind the scenes.
You nailed it. As a player since beta, I feel dead inside when I play it . Then I played The First Descendant beta and it's had so much fun! Then the beta ended and I turned OW back on and that was it. I knew it was over after my first round. I just doesn't spark joy.
Great video! Def subbed. This really was a great video of what happened. It will never not break my heart seeing this though. Overwatch was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. Had a whole crew. Had a whole community. It felt like playing overwatch wasnt something you just did at your desk, it was bigger. You could go out and find others who played. Talk to them. Now.... It's like a husk. They didn't kill a game. They killed an entire community. They killed friendships. It's honestly just sad. One of my favorite things in the world was to get home, grab a beer, and get on OW. See who's online. Rally up and get to beeeotch slapping some peeps. Now there's nothing.... It's all gone and I kinda just stopped gaming in general because.... Games feel so empty and boring now.
Damn, Overwatch was one of my most played games. I remember all the fun times I had. I used to be Bastion Main. I was GOD with Bastion. Always had people healing me and defending me whenever I sat in sentry mode in an important area and shred the other team. Now.. Now it's gone.. I can't even play the first game anymore. If I'm correct, the Servers for the first game were shut down. I had so many amazing memories with the first game and I wish I could go back and play it all over again
Overwatch is the first game I ever bought (back in 2017 or 18) and since then I've became obsessed with the story, becoming a major member of the fandom on wattpad in our country, buying Orisa book, and found my best friend I have because of us drawing fanarts of the game. I am so disappointed how it fell
I was really into Overwatch from around 2016-2018 because this was the first time I ever got engrossed in an FPS since Black Ops 1 or so. It’s really sad to see how far it’s fallen both because the original developers left and because Activision got so greedy with all their corrupt practices and everything.
Never recently had a video capture all my feelings so accurately about modern OW2. I don't have to say a thing, you said it for me here. Massive respect to ya, man. It really cuts deep having such a fan favorite game of yours just stab you in the back like this. We deserved better MILES beyond what Overwatch 2 currently is. We deserved what was promised. And now that we can't get that, It's better for everyone to let this corpse of a game crash and burn.
my best gaming buddy I've known for almost 15 years died of cancer this summer. His favourite game was overwatch and we played ranked together pretty much every day. The day he died I knew I would never play this game again. It's really sad to see it in this state because it's the biggest thing that reminds me of him and of all the fun we had together... RIP Max
I think the big things for me that are killing the fun are: The monetisation, heroes being locked behind the battle pass, the ranked changes and the cancellation of PVE. I actually think that personally, 5v5 is fun. I don't think it needed to happen, but I still enjoy it nonetheless. They could've literally solves OW1's shield problem by just limiting the tank role to a single shield tank per team. Tank has always been the most oppressive role in the game, and it does feel more so in OW2 since the tanks are gigabuffed to make up for the fact there's only one of them. Supports now have actually gotten to the point where they have so many tools to defend themselves it becomes extremely hard to 1v1 them. Kiriko is easily the worst offender for this, but illari and lifeweaver also are great at keeping themselves alive. There's nothing scarier than 1v1ing a lifeweaver, then he petals and pulls another support or dps or worse, the tank to him haha. I dunno man. I still enjoy the game of overwatch. It's still one of, if not my favourite FPS ever. But it's depressing how horribly mismanaged this game has been throughout the years.
I do agree with you, i think my problem with 5v5 is it feels like tanks had thier personality stripped away a bit to essentially become better dps, and as I tank main I found that super boring. For healers from what I can tell (very rarely play them) If you don't play the "good healers" like lifeweaver, kiriko etc, you will just have an awful time getting dived etc. Then again most my support knowledge comes from a support main I know so I could be wrong.
@@TheCoolJayManwhen you look at the comparison I think it's alot better to have it this way as opposed to shooting at 2 shields for an hour each and when you're not shooting a shield you're being stunned to death
@@pandaboss5085 I think the 6v6 vs 5v5 argument is more of a personally preference at the end of the day, i just liked the double tank format more, even with stuns and shield metas (i was a tank main so may be biased)

I agree that the battle pass system is cringe and it makes me want to vomit. But honestly, I found it easy to unlock all the heroes without buying the battle pass, but maybe that was a result of me being new
One of my best video gaming memories is a round on Gibraltar in the first few weeks of overwatch's launch. I was on the attacking side and held the cart in overtime for 5 minutes as Mei, the rest of my team getting repeatedly wiped just as they made it to the cart. I don't remember if we won, but that was when she became my OW main. And I can never have that experience again, because the original overwatch doesn't exist anymore.
I played ow1 from the beginning. The game got me and my girlfriend through covid while I was laid off. Ow2 literally destroyed everything I liked about ow1. Then came amazon prime, giving away skins I had earned in overwatch 1. Everything I had earned now has a price tag, which brings me to the point where I could probably sell my account for a lot to some new player with money.
In Australia and probably most countries with strong consumer laws and protections what they did with Overwatch 1 is completely illegal. While they are probably within their rights to stop supporting it with active servers and such they can't just completely delete and remove the game that was purchased from everyones system. This is something that should definitely be class actioned and then we can support our own OW just like decades of hosted CS
Already uninstalled a few weeks after overwatch 2 came out. No reason to play anymore with everything locked behind your wallet and half the progression and maps missing
Did you know they made a Destiny account to try and cash in on the 2nd games release? When it was awful they outright stopped posting on the channel and gave up lol
The art, rigging, and story telling team is completely carrying this game but the dev team are rock eaters. I say this as an illustration major that wants to work for blizzard but also a gm/t500 player. I would like to think that I would be a better game dev/balancer even being a design major. Tweaking balancing numbers doesn’t have to do education it comes from experience playing the game. The dev team are all bronze-gold players and it really shows. The thing that especially pisses me off is given how critical of the game I’ve been on social media as well as in game idk if blizzard would actually hire even though what I care about most is the health of the game. The toxicity problem is only an extension of the game. People get really frustrated when playing lobbies they shouldn’t be in (gms with diamonds aka the matchmaking system) and when certain characters are one tricked even when they’re completely dogshit. The end of this game will be the devs fault and not the player base’s. When there’s so much potential for such a lore rich game with an amazing concept/story it honestly makes me fucking depressed given this what I would like to do with my career. Edit: that’s why splitgate was such a good game. Because the creators of the game were some of the best players on it. Even though it fell off.
its not even the devs fault thought its the corporate greed that has infected gaming in the last few years. Gaming companies are getting worse and worse. Surprisingly Nintendo's approach to gaming has actually been getting better and better. Most game companies now just want to squeeze money and they realized okay everyone hates loot boxes but oh look everyone lovesssssssssssssssssssssssss battle passes.
@@christopherh4891while the higher ups are definitely FUUUUUUCKED The devs are not blameless here, some of the shit they do is wacky, and very unlikely a direct result of the higher ups
@@christopherh4891 I disagree as a pokemon fan it is becoming worse and worse, the newer games are a shitshow, haven't bought any games since black 2. It was downhill in terms of effort after these games, the only one that seems passable to me is Legends arceus, the latest ones cost 60 eur pokemon games historically costed I think 40 eur, and the dlc which adds pokemon which were not available before for 35 dollar, that is probably 35 eur even though that is a cashgrab. Pokemon also has pokemon home subscription which is free, but if you want to transfer your pokemon from the 3ds games or earlier, then you have to pay 2.99 dollar for getting them from pokemon bank -> pokemon home, pokmeon home has space for 30 pokemon for free, which is very stingey, as you would typically transfer your nostalgic pokemon+legendaries or mythicals as they are hard to obtain, on serebi i count 22 mythical +26 legendary + 55 sublegendary this is very much above 30 nostalgic pokemon would include your team your played through the region with, this is 6*ammount of generation, and many people play both versions, so maybe *1.5. Yea fuck nitendo for money pinching my memories in my games. Nintendo online is also notoriously bad and I remember it being expensive, wonky connection, much less emulation library compared to 3ds. And backwards compatabilty is not there, like it was in previous generations you could play Gameboy games on GBA, and GBA games on DS, ds games on 3ds, the switch does not have this capabilty, and the battery time as worse than the steam Deck, which uses an X86 chip running though an windows through a compatibility layer while the switch is arm chip that runs native games. I would much rather play indies like Cassette beasts or fangames like pokemon insurgence or pokemon uranium instead. I am never "buying" cosmetics in online only games, as when the game goes down, then the thing I bought is gone, not from wear and tear, but because the company decided that it is not going to let me access the content I paid to access.
@@christopherh4891It’s a combination of the two, activision blizzard have proven themselves to be greedy immoral bastards yes, but also the dev teams have had bad balancing and confusing choices on the direction of the game. I blame the higher up devs than just the average coder though. This shit street unfortunately goes both ways.
this video hit me like brick. I used to have so much fun in og overwatch. the community was popping everyone in school played overwatch, the themed events with exclusive items, the free loot boxes from arcade and I remember people actually communicating in vc in ranked. now it’s all gone because of greed I didn’t think much of ow 2 and i barely played it but this just made me realize that it’s gone it’s all gone. what a terrible tragedy and a tale of greed, evil, and selfishness. went from a full priced game to something that shouldn’t even be considered a video game. it’s okay tho❤️ill always have those memories of og ow
The ending of this video made me feel so depressed because everything you said about the game is completely true. The heart and soul of the game is gone. I even enjoyed playing back when they weren't releasing any new content because at least the original game was still intact. I love this game, but seeing the devs let both it and the players down time and time again has just completely ruined a once beautiful thing.
When 2 came out I played with my friends and realized that dmg roles weren’t fun to me and decided to play zenyata. Turns out I loved playing him. Sadly a month and a half after we started playing, everyone got sick of the game and the terrible ranking system. My friend was hard stuck bronze because of some ranked bug and couldn’t even queue with us. Plus progression being nonexistent and me missing items i know I had in overwatch 1 really were the last nails in the coffin
God... seeing the "Tf2 Killer" Die before my eyes Just as Tf2 had its all time peak in player count since launch I don't even know if it is depressing or hilairous
I remember my mom handing me the on-sale disc for Overwatch back in December 2016. My old friend group had literally grown up playing that game together and I’m glad I still have many old clips even after our departure from one another. I check in from time to time, but for the most part I just watch this bonfire of a “sequel” from afar. A seven year run for me
I was a hardcore Mercy main. Then, they introduced the new jump mechanic for her. I hate having to look away to jump where I want. That was a big negative for me. I miss the old superjump. The lack of PVE is what really killed it for me though. I loved the PVE events- especially Junkenstein's castle.
Imagine fumbling a ball so hard you literally revive TF2 and the devs start seriously updating the game again. That's gotta be the best/worst CPR ever performed
If a game is good, people will play it. Quake still has a small but active community for fucks sake. How Blizzard of all people fuxked this up so badly is astounding...
And thats also why they keep nerfing and buffing new heros. They buff little-played heros so that people will play them, and then potentially buy more skins, only for Blizzard to change that 30 days later, and you have to buy new skins. Also every new hero comes out only for people to guess what... BUY SKINS. This game isn't a game anymore, it's simply a money grab. I stopped supporting Blizzard directly through payments a long time ago.
“Wait your telling me the p0rn genre has a game?” Thats summarize all overwatch fandom in one phrase, yeah i never played the OG overwatch, would i wanted to? Yeah ofc when i played the O2 it was not for me, and im just bad at FPS games but i keep trying in those that i like, this one?....no defitnetly not, so i would say the devs should just let it die already
Recently managed to get myself to uninstall the game, and it really breaks my heart. I'd been a loyal addict since 2016 and OW2 removed any joy left in the game. Still sad to see my favorite game reduced to such garbage. Doesn't help that they completely removed off tank, which was what I most played.
Tank role is scuffed beyond repair as a result, heroes designed for offtanking are either hilariously bad or blessed by the blizzard buff carousel into being megabusted until they eventually get cycled for the new flavor of the month. There will never be a happy medium because OW was designed as a 6v6 game.
Would be hilarious if they re-release Overwatch 1 and all the players flock to it instead, like with Retail and Classic WoW. Nothing says, "You are a failure and a disappointment" like people ditching the 'superior sequel' for the much more enjoyable(though certainly not perfect save by comparison) original work.
new player here who wanted to try overwatch after watching their banger cinematic, and got locked behind the authentication system.... gg blizzard, no wonder everybody hate this game
Jeff leaving the team should've been a big red flag. Someone like him wouldn't have left his dream project for no reason, this probably was a long time coming and Jeff couldn't accept something like that, so they probably gave him the choice to either stick or leave... Hope he is doing well and that he may direct some other games in the future (PvE ones please, we know how Blizzard balances PvP)
5V5 destroyed the game, simple and easy. And despite all the reasons they said to justify the 5v5 switch which to me are all NOT true, the only reason to me was to reduce the queue time, because, as we all know, finding two tanks took forever at the time. It's also for the same reason they changed the rank system and started making unbalanced games, and to hide this reality, they removed the rank badges (not to avoid players discouragement before starting the game if enemy team had a higher elo player as they said, but to hide the fact that they are matching ppl from different elos in the same game, like plat in GM lobbies as we could see). At the end it all comes to reducing queue time, because they geniunly thought that the problem n°1 with OW1 was that. And to fix that, they took the worse possible decisions ever : 5v5 (which destroyed the game balance forever), unblanaced and opaque rank system, and removing the rank badges. There are easy steps to make OW2 much better: -> go back to 6v6, offtank is an important role in peeling and tank synergy was actually dope, as well as there are so many tank duo in OWL that I would love to see again. They feel so powerless and lonely today and depressed. I feel bad for tanks especially in the actually stupid bastion meta -> rework tanks in a way to make them more mobile, more killable and nerf shield to avoid the double shield meta which was not fun at all for anyone -> bring back SR system -> bring back RANK badges with OW1 designs -> make the same rank system as Valorant which is simple and fucking clear. You carry your team, even though you lose you lose just a tiny amount of points. This can encourage players to tryhard instead of surrendering because even though they try they will lose the same amount of SR at the end. I can lose sometimes 5 points in Valorant after a defeat cause I finished MVP of the game. Make the same in OW please -> make the same as Valorant as well when a member of your team leaves. In OW there's absolutely 0 chance to win the game after you have a leaver, which is crazy depressing. Personnaly 80% of the time the leaver is in my team. I don't know why, maybe I'm crazy unlucky. I don't know. But at least allow the team to have ults to charge faster to AT LEAST have a chance of doing something. This is even worse in 5v5. If the leaver is your tank and being the only tank in your team, well ... good luck
It sucks for me purely because I had so many memories of overwatch. That was the game where I met one of my closest friends and I hate That one of my memories of him before he passed is Is tied to a game that has fallen so far from what we remember.
It actually really sad what happened. I remember coming bome and hopping on overwatch with that bois. This game had alot of memories but looking at it now is sad
Sure, but for like two weeks when they took away most cc flankers we’re eating good. It’s not they were underpowered tho. Just a bunch of supports that needed to adjust play styles. The support passive and subsequent new characters swung them from “hit gud” to “OP”. I’d say they were fine, but everyone was playing like ass at the beginning and they won’t admit it. The genji mains never stopped playing.
supports can’t even die anymore. Diving them is pointless as they can heal themselves and each other along with almost all of them having escape abilities. 💀

I remember the christmas event, one year into when Overwatch came out, and I had an incredibly fun time playing it. Loot boxes were like presents you earn for playing the game and you had the choice to pay for more boxes if you wanted. The coolest skins, voice lines, and sprays. Now... it's such a sad shame the game has died. When the focus for money becomes more important then the love of the game and the enjoyment itself it gives to players, it certainly shows, and no words can describe how sad I am that something that was amazing as Overwatch can be destroyed by maddening corporate greed and the selfishness and arrogance of Blizzard thinking they can do whatever they want without repercussions. They ruined what was an incredibly fun game, and was once one of the most engaging games in the world. I just shake my head in utter disappointment. I wish we can pool our money to hire the original creators of OW1 and make a new game. The team had love and the right attitude towards its brain child, it was inspiring. OW2 is just a money grab that lost its soul
As pity as it sounds but I dont want another game cuz I know its gonna be different. I want ow and i want it to be good. Which, honestly, isn't hard. They're just greedy af
Just pool enough to buy OW IP rights, then enough to hire the devs and we're golden... But the problem is, the price tag for all that would be hundreds of millions.
Showing off unlocking The Floor is Lava achievement reminds me of a time that I helped a player on the enemy team get that achievement. It was a competitive game on Oasis, and after getting rolfstomped in round one, everyone but one player named Tyver on the opposite team quit. He didn't want to back out for the extra large hit his SR would take, so I asked him over game chat if there were any achievements he wanted us to help him get, and of course he asked for help with The Floor is Lava. Five of us met him outside spawn and stood right on the edge of the cliff, then let him boop us off for a wall ride quintuple kill. This also just so happened to be the day after the record feature was added to the highlight reel, so I actually still have a video of that moment. But now Ty er can't even show off his rare as a rare Pepe pixel Lucio spray, because Boxes shut down the game just to release a worse version of the exact same game with one of the most predatory money hunting shops in video hand history. Oh well. At least we still have mentors, and the lucky ones have some of that memories on video, too.
I would play Overwatch with my wife and best friends just about every night. So many good memories. Hell, we had no problem throwing money at the game for loot boxes because we had that much fun playing it. We all would take breaks and play other games but always came back. Overwatch 2 came out and we were so excited. We came back for a single night and were crushed. Being an old school Warcraft 1-3, StarCraft, WoW, Diablo, and Overwatch player it is absolutely heartbreaking seeing what Blizzard has become. Your ending where we’ll always have the memories hit hard.

When game companies quit because the "scope is too big" it means their greed outweighs their incentive to make a good game

I met a bunch of people on ow and when I got out of a really bad relationship those friends were still there and helped me pick up the pieces. I genuinely can’t forgive Blizzard for fucking up this game so badly
PVE cancellation was what broke the camel's back for me, the fact I couldn't efficiently farm out the new content the same way I used to farm every bit of content in OW1 with lootboxes was already upsetting to me, 5v5 was also upsetting but I persevered because "PVE would save the game, right ?"
That cancellation made me uninstall soon after and it was the best decision I've made in a while, playing it after that felt like I was taking depression pills in whisky so I simply cut it out of my life, the hard way.

That ending made me so sad, I've played OW since it came out and the fact that it will never be what it used to is extremely tragic

Now they're charging us like 20 bucks for skins that were essentially free for years.
@@FreedomPuppy if this was bliz from 10+ years ago you might be correct but bliz today is just another corporate dev that follows the popular monetizing trends in the industry.
Thats not greed, thats just he way the world works buddy

modern day business execs tunnel vision on quarterly earnings and cut off their nose to spite their face all the time (look at Unity rn) but OW2 is exceptionally egregious in this respect
@@A.LeMayo The business side of almost any game is going to be rife with things like that, but at the end of the day those practices are a big reason why these games are even able to be developed and maintained at such a high level
(It's a bit of a long one, please don't feel attacked or anything. Just a gamer who feels really tired about the state of the industry and has to ramble a bit...)
"Maintained at such a high level"?.

2018-2022 I played everyday. Would love getting drunk and playing comp. But these days I barely2 games and get very bored. I think I’m done :/

Fr, OW1 is just a million times better than OW2.

Pokemon also has pokemon home subscription which is free, but if you want to transfer your pokemon from the 3ds games or earlier, then you have to pay 2.99 dollar for getting them from pokemon bank -> pokemon home, pokmeon home has space for 30 pokemon for free, which is very stingey, as you would typically transfer your nostalgic pokemon+legendaries or mythicals as they are hard to obtain, on serebi i count 22 mythical +26 legendary + 55 sublegendary this is very much above 30
nostalgic pokemon would include your team your played through the region with, this is 6*ammount of generation, and many people play both versions, so maybe *1.5.

Gamers will truly doom everything, ow 2 makes crazy good money and has an alive playerbase, its just a more balanced game now in general
🤷♀
Ikr! I used to main her too
You just have to hold S and do the ability to jump backwards without looking, works the same with A and D
Imagine fumbling a ball so hard you literally revive TF2 and the devs start seriously updating the game again. That's gotta be the best/worst CPR ever performed
If a game is good, people will play it. Quake still has a small but active community for fucks sake. How Blizzard of all people fuxked this up so badly is astounding...
tf2 literally sitting there like "you could not live with your own failure, and were did that lead you? back to me."
I loved this game. Now it's nothing to me but good memories. I'm glad I missed ow2.
YES, offtank was the best Pre OW2 Roadhog was my fav
Tank role is scuffed beyond repair as a result, heroes designed for offtanking are either hilariously bad or blessed by the blizzard buff carousel into being megabusted until they eventually get cycled for the new flavor of the month. There will never be a happy medium because OW was designed as a 6v6 game.
Would be hilarious if they re-release Overwatch 1 and all the players flock to it instead, like with Retail and Classic WoW. Nothing says, "You are a failure and a disappointment" like people ditching the 'superior sequel' for the much more enjoyable(though certainly not perfect save by comparison) original work.
that would be funny AND sad
there are two things the devs couldve done to avoid this either 1 fullfill their promises or 2 never make promises you dont know you can keep
3 don’t overwrite the first game so that nobody can play it, it was called a sequel not an update
Tf2 standing on the grave of overwatch, saying "i was here before you, ill be here after too"
new player here who wanted to try overwatch after watching their banger cinematic, and got locked behind the authentication system.... gg blizzard, no wonder everybody hate this game
Jeff leaving the team should've been a big red flag. Someone like him wouldn't have left his dream project for no reason, this probably was a long time coming and Jeff couldn't accept something like that, so they probably gave him the choice to either stick or leave... Hope he is doing well and that he may direct some other games in the future (PvE ones please, we know how Blizzard balances PvP)
he's probably gonna head over to frost giant games, like all the other great devs from old blizzard who left the garbage fire that is the company now
5V5 destroyed the game, simple and easy.
There are easy steps to make OW2 much better:
-> go back to 6v6, offtank is an important role in peeling and tank synergy was actually dope, as well as there are so many tank duo in OWL that I would love to see again. They feel so powerless and lonely today and depressed. I feel bad for tanks especially in the actually stupid bastion meta
-> rework tanks in a way to make them more mobile, more killable and nerf shield to avoid the double shield meta which was not fun at all for anyone
-> bring back SR system
-> bring back RANK badges with OW1 designs
-> make the same rank system as Valorant which is simple and fucking clear. You carry your team, even though you lose you lose just a tiny amount of points. This can encourage players to tryhard instead of surrendering because even though they try they will lose the same amount of SR at the end. I can lose sometimes 5 points in Valorant after a defeat cause I finished MVP of the game. Make the same in OW please
-> make the same as Valorant as well when a member of your team leaves. If the leaver is your tank and being the only tank in your team, well ... good luck
Bro really named my discord lobby at 0:50
It sucks for me purely because I had so many memories of overwatch.
"Supports are underpowered..."
Of all the things that never happened, this is truly the neverest.
No genuinely in the start supports where fucked but now they’re so op it’s unreal
@@blackgradientman7265 they were the main reason double shield was bad
Sure, but for like two weeks when they took away most cc flankers we’re eating good. It’s not they were underpowered tho. Just a bunch of supports that needed to adjust play styles. The support passive and subsequent new characters swung them from “hit gud” to “OP”. I’d say they were fine, but everyone was playing like ass at the beginning and they won’t admit it. The genji mains never stopped playing.
supports can’t even die anymore. Diving them is pointless as they can heal themselves and each other along with almost all of them having escape abilities. 💀
How does this man not have over 500k subs, this is amazing
because he has a trash take on overwatch
@@gamerbeast3616 Even with all the facts layed out infront of you.
You still choose to shill for it, you have gotta be trolling no way you're not.
I'm sorry for your loss genuinely. OW1 was great, many good time and i hate that it ended the way it did.
OW2 on the otherhand, it's just a sad sight.
@@Freestyle_HD i mean a lot of stuff isnt facts in this video a lot of it is opinions, also some stuff is just plain wrong like he clearly doesnt know how the rank system works in ow2 its literally the same as ow1 other than you see your rank change after 5 game wins instead of after 1 game
but ow2 is still ass just some of the stuff this guy says is wrong and he missed some stuff
Can we... can we go back to the Jeff Kaplan days again... please?
i remember begging my mom to buy me the game on 2016's christmass after i spend hours watching my favorite content creators play the game, instantly the game became one of my favorite , i loved the thrill of winning a lootbox after every other game , it felt nice and rewarding that even losing a game felt like winning , i remember grinding competitive , having fun abusing meta , raging sometimes yes , but always coming back , i remmeber the new characters being released , i remember a lot of things , i remember th game slowly dying while the hype for overwatch 2 was there , i remember downloading the overwatch 2 public beta and playing it for hours , happy to play new characters , and now , i remember how i played overwatch 2 for like a season , seeing the game i loved dying , seeing how i played hundred of hours for nothing , no pve , no lootbox , only bad battle pass and big skin store , the game died... i miss those nights i stayed up to play the game that used to be my favorite one
Ain’t nobody reading allat
Valve is a small company and yet there are ably to take care of tf2, csgo, and the l4d series and blizzard can’t hold another overwatch game
how do you not have more subscribers!? this video is so good
I wish we can pool our money to hire the original creators of OW1 and make a new game.
But the problem is, the price tag for all that would be hundreds of millions.
its so insane how they could take one of the best games at a time and just completely ruin it
OW died and it feels like all of us are just wasting our time tryna being back a corpse
Oh well. At least we still have mentors, and the lucky ones have some of that memories on video, too.
it sucks because the game is still fixable but we all know they'll never do it
Also i am happy i am finally in a JayMan vid :)
Trash gameplay

I would play Overwatch with my wife and best friends just about every night. So many good memories. Hell, we had no problem throwing money at the game for loot boxes because we had that much fun playing it. We all would take breaks and play other games but always came back. Overwatch 2 came out and we were so excited. We came back for a single night and were crushed.
Being an old school Warcraft 1-3, StarCraft, WoW, Diablo, and Overwatch player it is absolutely heartbreaking seeing what Blizzard has become.
Your ending where we’ll always have the memories hit hard.
I am in the same boat as you! I've stopped playing all of my blizzard games due to their nonstop greedy policies. I started with wc1 on MS DOS and stayed loyal until the first day of OW2. Then they put out the God awful dumbed down diablo 4 nonsense where the only thing they seem to work on was the shop. I guess nothing good lasts forever and they're still not coming to terms that people won't let them prey on their nostalgia forever.
I remember getting the overwatch open beta on the week my GPU died. I managed to get it to run in absolute potato mode on my core i5 laptop and had the time of my life with my brother. So many memories.
Im just waiting in a few years the overwatch OG, just like wow
