Hi Sandy, let me add another one your partner can do when you’re serving: pressure, mostly when crossing field. If the “returner” fears your crossing movement he/she won’t play relaxed, will use a risky shot or weak. I do so everyday giving lot of “break” games.

That can be effective, particularly at a level where the returner is nervous...!

Can you do a footwork video and recommend footwork exercises? Great content! Thanks

Hi Steven, thats a great reccomendation and I'm sure it would be helpful for other players in the community to have this addressed. We will pass your feedback onto the team and see if we can create some content about this in the near future.

Love your stuff ! Started padel 2 months ago and it’s like an addiction now :) jimena and her husband are helping to grow the sport here in Germany . I am trying to teach my friend to play with me. I am coming from tennis so I can handle the racket but my friend never played any sports like that . I mainly try to remember her to always hold the racket high and be ready to hit the ball. Do you have tips on how to train/teach/help someone who never held a racket in their hands?
    Much love from Germany ❤

Quick question, if I hit a smash, it bounces then hits the oppo fence above the glass on the backcourt, is the point done or do they continue the point?

      You continue the point

Quick question. I’m 6.3 and was told by my coach out here (Italy) that because of my arm span and height I should stand much closer to the net. Do you agree. What I tend to do now is on first serve stand close, but on second serves a step back which is about where you advise standing usually. Thanks for all the great content.

Why should you stand closer if you got more space to cover naturally. Look at Gallan, his position is further away and uses his footwork to go closer. You do need to be able to put in enough footwork tho. But that is trainable.
If you do see that your opponent is in trouble you can close them in and put the ball outside of the cage with a 4 m smash or a dropshot.
If you were to close to the net I would personally play fast and short to your body. With your long arms and the duration of the ball wich is closer you will reduce your reaction time and you can be in a lot of trouble. Only for competitive players tho, as when playing on a really low level you can be able to do it, but wouldnt advise it myself.

I agree with the below comment. This would work at a low level when players do not return as well, but not above that for the reasons mentioned - good answer @1337Flavour!

@@1337flavor I also find that my overheads suffer when I’m lobbed as I’m having to cover more space going back and with my long gangly legs it’s tough to cover so much space. Gonna ignore coach for a bit and give it a go.

can't believe he didn't discuss what to do on your partners second serve. Not saying the serve is gonna be trash but it's very unlikely the opponent is gonna have any trouble returning
