you cant beat Bicayne Bay - at least 300 good sailing days a year - i spent 3months freezing up north in the winter in '09/'10 - it gave me the motivation fix my boats and get out as much as i can
Rarely are you going directly down wind. The boat will tell you where it wants the sail but beware sometimes it tells you with a jibe that can take your head off.
i basically never really go straight downwind, i do a broad reach and then approach my landing from the direction necessary for the sail on the side it needs to be to turn upwind when i reach port.
I miss Biscayne Bay. I learned to sail at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club. Many many hours were spent in a pram on the bay.
