    Even with the newest patch the game does have some tech issues including some raw ass popup and some insanely low textures but that doesn't stop the actual art design from being amazing. It does, especially at this resolution, look really rough in some places but the same of grandeur is impossible to argue with .

    Idk man. On the one hand I really loved BoTW. But on the other hand… I don’t know that I feel like revisiting that world.
    I don’t know how to explain it but I sort of wanted… a different Zelda experience I guess.
    But maybe I’m just missing the nostalgia of OoT and Majora’s Mask. In those games I appreciated talking to the characters and the dungeons.
    In BoTW (and from the initial looks of it this game)… I didn’t spend much time at all talking to npcs and worldbuilding details, nor doing much dungeon diving. It was just exploring the open world like 95% of the time.
    That’s not… bad per se… just a very different style of game. Or so it feels to me anyways.

    After finally having beaten it and putting about ~45 hours into it - I feel like I can confidently say this is a much better game that Breath of the Wild. However, I'm left wanting pretty much the same things I wanted after I beat BOTW and, as you mentioned, it loses that surprise factor that BOTW had when it was the first open world Zelda game. BOTW was such a new experience that even if it wasn't really packed with things to do, I still considered it a near perfect attempt at the first open world Zelda game and I was excited to see how they would build on this. With TOTK, it feels refined but I feel let down at how much they didn't improve. I'm still left wanting more enemy variety, I'm still left wanting better "dungeon" designs, I'm still left wanting at least a slightly more interesting combat system (the flurry timing in this game was off to me), and I'm still wanting a Zelda open world that is as interesting as it is vast. Good lord the Sky Islands are sparse and boring and the Depths feel repetitive and boring after a while. And above all, I'm wanting Nintendo to move on from the Switch immediately. The frame rate dips, low resolution, etc. is starting to get less easy to forgive after getting used to the performance of a PS5. In the end, if someone hasn't played either I would 100% recommend Tears of the Kingdom over Breath of the Wild at this point. If someone didn't really like BOTW, I just don't think this gives you much of a reason to change your mind unless you were really begging for a sandbox of toys where you can create whatever it is you want to help fight enemies or traverse landscapes. While this part of TOTK is really awesome, none of it is necessary to play or beat this game and is therefore just not critical to the enjoyment of the game for me.

Yes a lot of the music feels ultra-tailored to specific events, but I think some of the bigger boss fight orchestral pieces are bombastic and extremely satisfying. The first time you fight a gleeok is a serious treat just from the massive war-like song that plays. Plus all of the more subtle music cues feel perfectly appropriate almost like exploring through a Ghibli movie's landscape, adding some sense of comfort to the exploration.

    This review is very flawed. This review say:
    1. Some reasons of Totk is fun is: the game let you try new stuff without telling you to try new stuff. Like learning to merge weapons and arrows. Those claims actually reflects Totk as a mid game. Using fuse to create new weapons is more or less of creating weapons without a crafting benchs. While review praise the game letting player to try to fuse varities of things, but over half of fusing effect are overlapped. How many times did you get different types monster wings, and all of them just repeats "it allows arrow to travel further"? Most of the items effects are just reskined versions. With the average player needing so many hours of playing to complete the story without much exploration, totk running out of unique fuse or building concepts around early to mid journey. As a consequence, player needs to spend more than half of time on repeated gameplays.
    2. This review claims that lesrning enemy weakness is a fun part of the game, but ignores the enemy variety issue. I am not talking about how some enemy walk or attack the same, as this is already addressed in the review. Indeed that different enemies have different weaknesses, but reskined same enemy type all have the similar weaknesses. Totk is very stingy on giving player different enemy types, considering the time players will spend on fighting. There are very few unique enemy types and yet their weaknesses are shared among variants. Much like the argument above, that players gradually start to see the mostly repeated content during the majority of play time.
    3. This review says that "all of those mechanisms doesn't make the game boring". The truth is that all of those mechanisms are viable which become universal solutions to majorities of the puzzles. You may be able to use different abilities to solve a single puzzle. However, when other puzzles with the same nature showing up over and over again, you already have the good solution from previous puzzles. Suddenly a lot of puzzles, which suppose to be intellectual excercises, become a chore of copy and paste previous solutions.
    Those 3 things I pointed above are something interesting and fun in nature, but ruined by forcefully prolonged gameplays. With map size as big as Totk, and main story missions that intentionally refuse to give way pointers, and force players to explore a large map, players can not avoid long playtimes. (Without going through spoilers/guides made by others). Honestly, the formula of solving puzzles doesn't sit well with repeatations. Any new ideas in movies or fictions, that seems innovative, will become cliche, when overused by the mass.

      @docmars Рік тому

      Agreed, and unfortunately for this release, it's long overdue. 30fps caps with 20fps dips common in complex scenes and at times, in towns, is kind of unacceptable these days.
      From what I've seen, TotK runs great at 30fps most of the time (Digital Foundry), and the controls are uber responsive, which is imperative for a good experience, but everything from the visual quality to the framerate and other limitations just seems like such an unnecessary, missed opportunity, when we know that Nintendo could release a new Switch with similar specs to the Steam Deck, or better. Although the price point may increase for that.
      If not another Switch, then it's time to start releasing first-party titles on other systems finally.

      @@Jhoncena22 The game itself is obviously fun as hell and more ambitious than most RPGs for gameplay. Even the art style as-is is absolutely fantastic. But could you imagine the game looking more like Horizon Forbidden West on a modern gaming system? It would only increase the appeal.
      But to have it looking like a late PS3 game topping at 30fps is just a shame when Nintendo probably has the funding and chops to make a 60fps capable system with better visuals for this game, to boot.

    Here's an obvious point I rarely see reviewers make: TOTK is essentially an enhanced BOTW. In other words, a glorified expansion pack. 70% of the game's mechanics, graphics, sounds, menus, regions, etc... are indistinguishable from BOTW. Despite the innovative crafting system, verticality, quality of life improvements & superficial novelty, 70% of TOTK's greatness is predicated on BOTW's greatness; again, this game is fundamentally BOTW with a few major improvements. That said, TOTK has flaws that BOTW didn't have, such as goofy, repetitive dialogue and an even more more empty open-word than its predecessor.
