Thank you Sue Perkins. I’m from Newcastle NSW in Australia. The Newcastle Steel Works band won the British Open in 1923. The Brass Band heritage came with coal miners from Northern England who joined the mines in the Hunter Valley near Newcastle. I’ve loved Brass Bands since childhood when they played in the park outside Newcastle Town Hall. I’ve played BBb Bass in a few good bands. It’s unique and excellent, a shared tradition like “Ashes” cricket. Love England, especially the North. Good luck, Dinnington.
Hey, this is a great program. My band has about the same number as Dinnington did and it is brilliant and exciting. The main thing is to have a good conductor and also to be organised so you don't spend the whole time looking for music, which you do in some bands. Or not having the right music at all, which is worse.
I did enjoy watching this when it was broadcast a few years ago , but if Sue Perkins was so passionate about the band's future and image why did she look such a scruff when conducting in the local club ? Surely a pair of proper trousers , a straight bow tie and collar , and not wearing a tank top under the band's stage jacket ! Or was it all for the cameras ?

Watching this because someone mentioned about it on a Reddit thread.

Probably didn’t help that none of the members looked like they were enjoying themselves
