@billdlv The customer came to me, from off cape, to do the machine work to his castings, there are a few different preferences, when it comes to rudders, S/S,Bronze, Glass, Wood, etc. Usaully jives with boat design... Most of the rudders that I do the machine work on, are casted with Magineez Bronze, These did seem a little more darker, still had the Mag tuffness...
I have heard of it and all the moth ball fleets up that way also. I have also seen Swan Island in Oregon and the Puget Sound in Washington. I almost ventured north before I headed north east. ;{)-----
Well I work on a lot of repairs, re-powers and new construction. If they are not bonded from electrolysis and or are abused maintenance, cases, they tend to be replaced more quickly than they should be. ;{)------
That's a cool fixture! A fixture or jig can really make or break a project especially when it comes to alignment or indexing. We are often asked to make multiple parts which are the same. A fixture is the only way to make that happen. So why did the customer choose bronze instead of SS? I would think that a SS part would be less expensive, especially with the CNC. Also what is the alloy the bronze I have seen has more of a copper color...
It would be cool if you dubbed the sound of a cash register's till ring at the end of your jobs: "cha-ching"! Ha ha ha. Could be a cool cell phone ringtone as well.
Kieth, I surmise from your logo and all the marine projects you work on, you must live close to a large marina or body of water, no? Btw, love you DIY jigs and setups. I only have a general purpose shop, but a lot of your ideas are adaptable to my projects..which are NEVER as complex as your machining projects. One thing I'm curious about is how much do you think you have invested in your shop.. just a guestimate. If you don't mind of course.
You do have a little NE sound occasionally. Like when my wife goes to North dakota, she comes back sounding like she lived there all her life. Dont 'ya know.
I was born and raised in Califorina, came back here after meeting Vanessa!

Love all your old flat belt equipment bro, did my fair share of same stuff :)
@TorqueRider2000 That was it! I can drive larger bits, just haven't come across any at the right price :)

@TorqueRider2000 That was a 1 .750" drill :)

Keith. Fantastic belt driven drilling machine. They don't make 'em like that any more. What make and about how old? Thanks.
Hey Keith,
I've watched you work on several different rudders. I nothing about the sea. Do rudders not have a long service life?
That was a custom rudder made for a customer I had just met and can't recall the style of boat, sorry! ;{)---
I love to have a 1/6 scale drill press like that. Wonder how much it would cost to make one.

A silly question: What type of boat is that rudder going on?

Is the alignment error on the small rudder within tolerance?
I talk about it in the two video's Belt up one and two. ;{)-----
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year brother! Keep these videos coming, I look forward to each new one in my sub box. :)
