Very good information. Found out carpet installers from Home Depot (and probably other providers) will NOT remove wet carpet. Wish they had told us that at the beginning when we were looking into removing and replacing our carpet. We had told the Sales person what had happened and how our carpet had gotten wet... that person did not tell us that the carpet installers would not remove wet (now only slightly damp) carpet. We will be removing the carpet once husband gets home from work.
@1216saab I am glad I could help in your dry out. Be shure to check your walls for water damage. Make sure you dry the walls as well as the floor. The walls are where you get the hidden mold that everyone is concerned about.
I have a small section maybe 12"x12" that was effected by a recent water leak. I was thinking about cutting the carpet and vacuuming the padding then letting it air out to dry. My question is how would I put the piece of cut carpet back? Its not a big enough area affected to replace the entire carpet with something new.
If the carpet has only been flooded for one or two days, then you can do what you say. But there should be no need to cut the carpet, just pull it up along the edges and fold it back.

Great video, thanks!
