I've listened to the Thieving Magpie an infinite number of times and this rendition probably because it was live provided the most versatile, fulfilling performance yet.
I always thought it would be a spectacular wedding march. A wedding for the star quarterback and his beautiful princess at half time in the middle of a football field.
When the phone rang I was in the kitchen, boiling a potful of spaghetti and whistling along with an FM broadcast of the overture to Rossini’s The Thieving Magpie, which has to be the perfect music for cooking pasta.
I could watch this every day. Such a beautiful piece of music and these sincere young people so proudly and perfectly playing their parts and this conductor who is an elegant example of someone totally enjoying what they are doing in life.
Hard to imagine how much good life value was brought to these kids by this. This conductor just seems to be joyous and I know she's passed that on to them. I'll bet they are sad when they have to leave this Orchestra. I really don't know anything about her other than what I can see here, which is, a person giving her all and loving every second of it.
Having sung in the Herts Youth Choir and accompanied by the Youth Orchestra…back in 1975…when I was 15…I can tell you experiences like this stay with you for the rest of your life (I’m 62 now) They are completely priceless. And this is a great performance of a brilliant bit of music.
I love this overture and this orchestra has done it really well - fantastic job! Thank you all. I just keep coming back to this recording; it's so joyful. Love it.
Could anyone love what they're doing more than this woman ? I am mostly unknowing about classical music. Had it not been for "A Clockwork Orange" (1971) I would not know about this work which is now a cherished favorite of mine. The movie was, well...disturbing but, the soundtrack is spot-on genius.
The conductor used sign language in the beginning idk if she did it Bc one of her students is deaf or she’s deaf but if she is and she’s an orchestra conductor that’s amazing
We fillied around for a while with other travelers of the night playing "hogs of the road." Then we headed west, what we were after now was the old surprise visit. That was a real kick and good for laughs and lashings of the old ultra-violence...
10+ years on. I hope the students look back at this with pride. I wonder how many went on to play with other orchestras or solo? Not that it is that important but I hope they al kept their skills up as they were evidently the cream of the crop and music warms the soul on any cold night. Very well done indeed.
Terrific to see an orchestra of many highly talented young adults so obviously enjoying their superb performance. Thank you fpr a most relaxed tempo which definetly added to your listeners enjoyment of the overture.
They are playing so slow! And it's making the perfomance sound lovely. With the slow tempo it sound like a march for the King walking in the Throne Room. Excellent!
I am a number of the 39,012 views. This is wonderful in so many ways. It would be so good to love what you do as much as this conductor does. Also, the violinist... third chair in on the conductors right.(black hair band) This music seems to be immersed in her soul.
As we walked along the flatblock marina, I was calm on the outside, but thinking all the time. So now it was to be Georgie the general, saying what we should do and what not to do, and Dim as his mindless greeding bulldog. But suddenly I viddied that thinking was for the gloopy ones and that the oomny ones use, like, inspiration and what Bog sends. For now it was lovely music that came to my aid. There was a window open with the stereo on and I viddied right at once what to do
Dear Tina - same here. I also really discovered Debussy through Tomita. Now, in later life, I love classical music and have become a singer of religious and operatic music; JC
Many thanks for an amazing performance. If I may, and with your permission, I would like to include some of your music into a private and non-commercial Flight Sim video I'm preparing to upload
what does Anthony Burgess have to do with it? Kubrick is the one that used this music as a juxtaposition in his adaptation of Burgess's book but there is no mention of the Thieving Magpie in the book.
You didn't really think a couple lines of computer code was gonna bring the world crashing down around our ears? I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed in you, Ordinary Sherlock!
Heartwarming to see so many young people embracing this style of music.
There are so many youngsters in this Orchestra. They should be proud of this performance. Bravo. 😆
Lol that's cuz it's a youth orchestra
Absolutely marvelous that these young teenagers could perform so brilliantly. Kudos to the teacher/conductor. Thanks for posting.
I've listened to the Thieving Magpie an infinite number of times and this rendition

Michael Safrin and out of tempo many times
Yes! Nice to know that the Mormons can do something right for a change.
A VERY fine performance by some amazingly talented young musicians. Well done all of you.
Utah Youth Symphony Orchestra, makes us proud here in Utah.
beautiful performance. Many other versions of this are rushed, but the tempo in this was so well- controlled. Bravo!
The tempo was good for a youth orchestra. These young musicians were wonderful, and the conductor was animated and entertaining as well.
Actually, I disagree. I find it too slow. This is ITALIAN. You skip and hop with an Italian temperament. You don't measuredly march like a German.
Has to be the perfect music for cooking pasta.
Creak, creeeeek, chronicles
go for opera
How about eating a BIG MAC?!?!?! You troll!!!

Such good stereo in this one, it makes the whole performance feel like you're there. Amazing.
When doing trivial housework I start this video,
but at 3:30 I always stop and dream me back to Napoli.
Bravissimo.
I love this overture and this orchestra has done it really well - fantastic job! Thank you all. I just keep coming back to this recording; it's so joyful. Love it.

That was a very enjoyable Journey, it is brilliant to see young people playing with such passion 🤩🤩

What a great movie that was.

Such a wonderful, joyous sound.
it makes me proud to be a sherlockian when i get here and 90% of the comments are Sherlock related. so glad i'm not alone in the world.

Barbara Scowcroft, simply wonder!
Fantastic performance, BRAVO!!!
Something so uplifting and mischievous about this piece. Love this and Dance of the Hour, a giddy symphonic showcase

Bravo!!! Great youth orchestra
Absolutely beautiful, and such a joy to watch the conductor,so much better than the stuffy old guys I usually see on telly
I had absolute shivers running up my spine listening to this. Awesome.
Bravo! Well played and conducted.

Thank you Anthony Burgess.

11:15 "JC, can you hear me? Destroy the internet, it's gotten really hokey! We need to start again!"
So this music was listened by main character of "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle" :)) inspiring
If Rossini had written symphonies, he might have surpassed Beethoven. Congratulations to this young orchestra for their effort.
Vera Evans Maybe Berlioz too.
Bravíssimo ! Rio de janeiro /BRAZIL
This song was in the Hilary Duff movie "A Cinderella Story" in the scene where her stepsisters are attempting synchronised swimming in their pool...
