Hey Mark and Eddie. I would have never guessed Honey Locust in a million years. They look like really nice logs and should be a very interesting video when you get ready to saw them. Thanks for the video sawing the big chunk of White Oak. The planks from that log should make a beautiful table. Both of you take care and enjoy the Spring weather!
My back hurts just watching you guys lift those slabs. If that is going to be a table, it will look great. It is always good to see you. Thanks for the video.
Don't know what it is about watching you cut up a log but I can watch for hours. I really enjoy your videos. I'm trying to figure out your plans for each log. Haven't got that down yet but am getting a little better at it. Keep your videos coming and I'll keep watching and liking. John L. From Wisconsin
I made a couple of stools out of honey locust. It's a beautiful wood, a joy to work with. It smells like honey when you cut it. It's got a big contrast between the sapwood and the heartwood. The heartwood is red and the sapwood is pale yellow. I'm so excited for you guys to saw it, wait until you smell it ❤️ It's hard though. Look up the Janka rating, it's a beast!
Great video Mark and Eddie and ZZ Mark. Those boards looked heavy to flip over. I remember cutting some 5inch planks of Oak on the Rip saw with my boss and that was heavy work, they were for newal post's for some staircases. Take care.
Mark, on some rainy day would you & the World's Most Famous Offbearer be willing to record a video about your history of sawing, how you acquired the mill & some of the wildest things you've seen on sawmills?
Good evening from Mönchengladbach🇩🇪. Without Z.Z. Mark for next months, a very good man in the team, could be interesting for possible candidates. The thickness from 2 inches makes me curious for the use.
If you don't have fun in your life, go work at a sawmill for a while. That'll bring you back to gratefulness quicker than anything I know of. Happy weekend and thanks for the snacks for the bus motor! God Bless!
I have a question for you and Eddie. A log sawn on one or more sides is called a cant. I've known this for years. But why is it called a cant? I have my own idea but I wonder if you can shed light on this? Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
Overall, a cant is a sawn log that is sent to another machine for additional processing or sold as a large slab to be used as a building log. A cant sawmill has the job of sawing logs to form cants for further manufacturing. The head saw is the machine used to turn logs into cants. @@mlt6322 Ive read the same thing. But WHY is it called a cant? My theory is that once its sawn even on one side, the log CANT roll anymore. Which then calls for the need of the cant hook.
Great stuff! @ 7:13 and the cut B-4 U turned that beast, they gave off big ''BOOMS''! I was thinking, maybe you could carve a ''BOOM'' for that pole by Eddie. Do U sell a ''BOOM'' at your store?
As I've become a big fan of your channel I've been going back, back, back watching the old episodes. I believe you have cut honey locust about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago. As I recall you weren't a fan of cutting it. Too hard maybe?
@@markgalicic7788 If he's smashing atoms I'm guessing he works up at Beaver, NW of the shop. And that would answer my previous question a few months ago about the TV show "SEE" with Jason Mamoa, it took place at a Hydro electric plant around Pittsburgh in season 1.

Can you do some videos with rift cut and quartersawn white oak? As a cabinet maker, it would help our sales people on limitations on width of boards available. Much appreciated. Those 2 cuts are a huge market in my area
Thank you for an afternoon of purpose . I am 86 years old and life looses it purpose after while. Thank you again.
your welcome Stewart , glad you like our videos.
God bless you sir.

next time we find some Osage orange we will film it being sawed.

thanks for the info Nigel , we want to make a picnic table and some outdoor chairs from it.
Happy Friday Eve everybody 👌

The off cuts of that white oak would make great firewood.
they sure will JB.

Come on Mark the man didn't ask for sticks.he wanted chunks
it's a shame that you never got to work with the band mill. that would have been great for quarter sawing or some log prep with some of the huge logs.
Nice to watch..
thanks Jack.
❤ to all

Thanks!
thank you Zach.
Mark, you said ZZ is off smashing atoms. Who is that guy that looks just like ZZ manning the chop saw?
he is still in this video , he will be gone for two months after this video.

Does your edger do anything over 1 inch thick? Really great today guys thank you.👍
yes it will go up to 4"
There goes your firewood
That is a very big one guys
yes for sure Larry.
Hope you charged enough for that heavy lifting, Eddie & Mark probably got stretched on that one😮
they didn't like the thick wide boards for sure.
We've got Black Locust in our yard. Nasty, thorny, hard, tough trees.😬
we have sawed it before , it gets very hard after it dries.
That thick piece could be used to make table legs.
yes for sure.
We want to see the sign with "Mr. Laser"!
working on some new ones
Locus will knock the crap out of the saw blade slow going
no we have sawed locust before not to bad.
Eddie must be going to be building outdoor privvies😂 @cresent moons
very close.
How long does it take to air dry/kiln dry a 3” slab of white oak?
the rule is 1" per year air drying , a kiln would take around 3 months or more.
If you have never seen a honey locust before it’s a little shocking with its long thorns growing out of the trunk.
Is that Mark McConnel operating the swing saw?
When is your new edger due to arrive at the mill?
I wish I knew when.

Honey locust is native to eastern US
Eddie says no it was brought here.

Definitely some heavy wood. What would Eddie have done without ZZ Mark there? Any chance of Buzzy coming in to help?
Bill
I would stop and help Eddie then back sawing just takes longer , we hope Buzz saw Buzzy comes back.
I almost changed my answer from elm to locust but I stuck to my guns 😆
