You look and feel ridiculous by painting out your face, but this was absolutely the BEST visual of the exact area in which to apply and that which to avoid I’ve ever seen!!! Thank you for this wonderful, informative and and helpful guide to trentinoin!!! No wonder my nose ,lips and chin are so extremely irritated and flakey! Much love,💋

I’ve been using tretinoin for 18 months and noticed a difference after about 5 months. From my experiences of problem areas I now apply my eye cream and lip balm first. Even avoiding the lips and eyes with the tretinoin it will seep in, so applying a moisturiser first seems to prevent the drying out I had been experiencing.

Sandra McDonagh hi! Have you noticed any consistent results in the under eye area? Lines and little wrinkles?

    • @sandramcdonagh5271
      @sandramcdonagh5271 5 років тому +13

I have indeed, they are much better, I rarely need to use a concealer. Even with moisturiser on the eyes first a little tretinoin will seep up into the eye area but as long as your careful it will help smooth out the wrinkles. Have you watched “ hot and flashy” on you tube. She explains how tretinoin helps skin under the eyes.

I'm using A313 Vitamin A pommade which is a French brand on Amazon. Absolutely brilliant stuff - I've literally used it for one week so far and already the difference is very noticeable and I am truly amazed. It's cleared up pigmentation from spots and my skin is glowing at 44 years of age! French pharmacy brands are excellent. I've had no irritation whatsoever when used in conjuction with Embryolisse moisturising cream. I've been so impressed I have also purchased Ialuset cream which is a hyluronic acid cream as I've read good reviews on it and am excited to try this also. I really rate the A313 pommade.

I’m 55 and started using Tretinoin in February. I’ve slowly worked my way up to 0.1% and use every other day. My skin is looking fabulous! People don’t believe me when they learn that I’m 55. Soooo wish I would’ve started using Tretinoin years ago!!! I guess it’s better late then never! Great video....I love the way you explained it!🙂

Lisa Dearing I’m 37 and just starting. I too feel I just missed the mark a little...had I started 5 years ago I just never would have aged! LOL! Like you said though better late than never and I love comments and videos of women older than me getting amazing results beginning to use it in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s! Assures me that it’s worth it no matter when you start! I’ve even read comments from women in their 70’s who just started and say it’s doing wonders! So I mean, just glad to have discovered it really. I always just thought it was a gimmick like everything else. The fact that this isn’t common knowledge by now just blows my mind to be honest.

I'm blessed with non sensitive skin and started .05 Tretinoin about 5 weeks ago. I started slowly but quickly got to nightly. If my skin feels slightly irritated or I see flaking, I skip a night. But you have to know your skin and I did a ton of research first to know the do's and don't's.

You are so right, it takes PATIENCE!!! I've been using trentinoin for 18 months or so. I have very sensitive skin. I started by using the lowest strength 1 night a week and increased usage by 1 day every month. I also use the cerave pm facial lotion directly afterward. On the middle strength now. I was going to increase to the strongest but for no explainable reason, my face got irritated. (Had been using the middle strength every night for about 6 weeks)I have a bunch of travel over the next month, so will wait until November to try it. I do know that sometimes in winter, you have to stop trying to increase it. In cold climates, sometimes that happens. Also, if your skin just out of the blue becomes irritated, try using a very soothing serum in the AM. I used Bobbi Brown extra repair serum ( I had some left over in my cabinet and thought it couldn't hurt) and it really helped me. This is just my experience, hope it helps someone.

I started using Retinoid, Vitamin C and The Buffet from The Ordinary one month ago and it has changed my skin completely. Saw the Dermatologist today when she heard about my routine she asked me if I wanted a prescription for Retin A. I'm 68 and according to her I have very, very good skin. Going to try Retin A tomorrow. You have given me more information about this product than the doctor did. Thank you for all your hard work. So very much appreciated !

I use 12% glycolic acid from Alpha Skin Care on my face in the daytime. And I use my 0.1% Tretinoin on my face at night. Immediately after cleansing my face with my CeraVe facial cleanser and pat dry, I put on my Retin-A immediately because with the damp skin it absorbs more quickly and right after that I apply either my Olay Regenerist micro-sculpting cream (fragrance free) or my CeraVe night cream which I do use immediately on my eyelids and under my eyes as well as everywhere else on my face, it is fragrance-free. I think I actually like the CeraVe night cream better. Alpha skin care also makes a 12% glycolic acid lotion for the body to help with the creepiness of the skin. It really does work. And yes you absolutely positively have to use a sunscreen if you use Retin-A or glycolic acid.

Hi Gemma, I totally agree with everything you said except for the part about using Retin-A on the neck. I have used a .025 strength for the past 6 years and my neck skin has improved dramatically. Skin is skin. The problem is that the neck can be very sensitive and I believe some suppliers want to avoid having people have adverse reactions on the neck so they don't recommend it. You can get the same results on the neck as on the face as long as you can tolerate it and go even slower than on the face.

I use tretinoin (0.05%) on my face then the retinol 1% in squalene from the ordinary on my neck as it’s much weaker. Eventually I plan on trying the “real stuff” on my neck too though once my skin has adjusted (just started). I agree, skin is skin so why not? If I react poorly to it I’ll just go back and stick to the mild stuff but either way my neck is getting some form of Retinol! Lol

Gemma, hearing you say naught made me think of my Father. His generation used that word all the time for zero. It’s rarely used in the U.S. anymore. I’m sure a lot of people never heard of the word. I had to listen carefully to hear how many zeros. I not only had a lesson in beauty products I’m not really familiar with, but I had a pleasant picture of my Dad helping me with arithmetic (that’s not used either anymore) and saying naught. Nice way to end my day. Your a gem 💎.

Heads up folks! She is 100% right about not applying in this zone.
Oh. My. Gawd. I watched this video a few weeks back when I was looking into starting a Retinol or retinoid treatment. I forgot the target zone you mentioned to apply/not apply last night when I tried my first retinoids (The Ordinary’s ‘Granactive’ retinoid 2% emulsion).
I definitely made the mistake of applying wayyyy too close to the corners of my mouth. And within an hour or so the INSIDE of my mouth’s “skin” (not sure if the fleshy inside of your mouth is actually considered skin) became super dry. It felt very much like a dry cotton texture or how it feels after having a cut or sore in your mouth.
This stuff really does permeate your skin and goes deep into it like a sponge.
Thank you for sharing I will DEFINITELY never apply within this zone again.
FYI I’m totally fine. It just feels gross on the inside corners of my mouth. Lesson learned!

Here in the US we have Curology as well. I started on .01% daily with a rich moisturizer before. Within a month I moved up to .02% and have been doing that nightly for 2 months. My skin reacts best if use Clinique Intensive moisture from the moisture surge line right after I wash and dry my skin. This allows the moisturizer to soak in deeper and faster. About 5 minutes later, I add my Curology cream and I have had no issues with irritation. Before I put the moisturizer on first, I had to wait about 3 days 2 weeks apart to clear up irritation. I also tried 5 different moisturizers, including Cerave PM, and all irritated my skin after a couple of days even though I was using a very gentle cleanser. I finally tried the Clinique line, and none of those of the moisture surge line irritate me. I was told to use my lower strength at this point on my neck to help with hyperpigmentation and scarring. Once I get to a level that my neck skin gets irritated, I am to stop using it there and we are hoping that the hyperpigmentation will be faded or gone.

I have used 0.1% tretinoin for more than 30 years and you would have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands. I started as a treatment for adult hormonal acne but when the anti-aging benefits became noticable I just continued on with the blessing of my Dermatologist. I do use it on my neck but I apply a moisturizer before the tretinoin. It is NOT true that you cannot apply to the neck!!! You may have a bit of flaking at first as the dead skin cells are sloughed off but DONT STOP/DONT Take a break! If you stop, you will go through the process all over again. If you are having some flaking you can use a very soft baby washcloth with a very gentle cleanser and gently rub off the flakes. Just keep going. It wont flake forever.

Most Dermatologists and Aetheticians tell their clients NOT to apply Tretinoin to their neck, and therefore I have to pass this info on to the Pampered Wolf Pack as it would be irresponsible not to. The Company who makes the Tretinoin I use also says NOT to apply it to the neck. Obviously if it works for you that's great, but I have to pass on the knowledge xxx

Yes! I agree not everyone should use it on the neck but it's a case by case basis. Luckily it's ok on mine, because I have sun damage and at 44 I need a miracle lol. I also use cerave moisturizer about half hour after I apply, before bed, and that really hydrates.

Absolutely brilliant intro to tretinoin! Thanks so much. Your video got Dermatica a new client this week 😉They sent me a mix of 4% hydroquinone and 0.025 tretinoin and I used it for the first time last night. Incidentally, Dermatica told me that 0.025% is their lowest %... maybe they’ve dropped the 0.01% you have listed below? I’m going to start of REALLY slow tho, becuase I have pretty sensitive rosacea-prone skin, I’ll start off applying over moisturiser. In some ways I was surprised that Dermatica were willing to prescribe to someone with rosacea, but I have read some studies that suggest it can help with my form of rosacea (subtype 1, redness, sensitivity and flushing, but no papules and pustules). Fingers crossed. Thanks again for this brilliant video.. all the best.😍

@@emmaainger7474 I’m doing well.. I upped the % to 0.05 about six months ago and I’m using it every night with no ill effect. I started very very cautiously because of the rosacea, only 0.025 every three nights to start with. Every now and then I had to go three nights without tret cos my skin got a little tender, but it always recovered well within that extra day without application. Improvement wise.. hard to say.. my skin looks good and I get compliments, but then I always have. My rosacea is all about horrible flushing. It may take longer for the full effect of the improvement to come out. I don’t think I’ll go up to 0.1% though.. I don’t think I need to, I’d rather just keep slow and steady. I would certainly recommend Dermatica tho!

I've been using it for 2 years with great success and I haven't suffered any peeling either. My dermatologist put me in touch with a pharmacy where I get mine at a 0.06% strength for a reasonable price (it's expensive here too). I have had minimal flaking but if it does occur, it will generally be on the end of my nose or just under my mouth. Dermatica sounds like Curology, which I use. It’s a monthly subscription service. It will allow you to skip the occasional shipment, which I’ve had to do several times over the last 2 years since the bottle is pretty big. I’ll actually use the extra on my hands if I have an extra bottle. Curology also has additional ingredients according to your needs. Mine has azelic acid and niacinamide (sp?). I apply my Tret at night after cleansing and then my serums, a mask every few days, moisturizer, and oil. The best advice I got to make Tret more effective was to wait 20 minutes after applying before using others products.

I started out with 0.05% because I had nothing to lose as my skin wasn’t great anyway so I have no regrets 😂 btw as far as AHA/BHA goes, I used them every other day alternating with tret back then, but this is not recommended on dry skin type. These days, now that my skin is not so dry anymore (in fact, I tend to get pretty oily, probably due to the moisturizer I use and I’ve been using Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate) I use tret every night and The Ordinary glycolic acid toner 2-3 a week. Tretinoin is wonderful and I’m so glad that I’ve finally found my skin care holy grail 😍
Edit: Just want to add something about SPF. For me, SPF30 is all I use right now as it protects my skin from 97% of UVB rays. I used to use SPF50 and later learned that it only protects from 98% of UVB rays while SPF100 99%. in fact SPF15 is as good as it protects you from 93% of UVB rays. To best protect the skin against UVA rays, there are ingredients to look out for and google can explain more 😊

Hi, that's not entirely correct Alice but I understand what you mean. I recommend using an spf of 30 or over for everyday. SPF 15 does not offer anywhere near enough protection especially when the protective skin barrier is damaged. xxx

Pampered Wolf Yup I think SPF30 is ideal. I have an Eucerin CC cream that I “accidentally” bought that has SPF15 (impulsive shopping). I think it’s “safe” for me to use as it has pigment and easier to tell if it’s evenly applied. I’m not an active outdoors person, but if I were, I’d def benefit from SPF50. Since I used tret I have developed a severe sun-phobia. Like, I refuse to go into the direct sunlight or participate in outdoor activities, I’d wear a hoodie while driving, and now I’m glad that the days are getting darker cause tret has slowly turned me into a vampire 😂

My mum got me Vitanol-A from Brazil, I asked for the weakest one she brought me 0.1%. I've been too scared to try it! Will get the Cerave moisturiser and dilute it....

I get the same one from Brazil. I have been using for over 2 years and my skin is fine with. I also moisturized very well with Cerave before I apply Vitanol 0.1%.

I use Curology, in US. I’m up to .035% with 5% Azaleic acid, 4% niacinamide. Flaking early on, but now ok. Always with a nice moisturizer over
