great sound on the album - just discovering who you are so if you feel stalked I apologize ... where did you record? You don't seem to have a drum kit at home...
Great tour Shawn. Gives me ideas for my own studio, especially as I go to a smaller, more efficient set up. You are one organized, clean dude. Your wife must love you (besides the 🛁)
Great tour. So appreciate the use of limited space. Building a new house in the spring and I now have some great ideas for my new studio. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you and your family....
Would love to see a video that captures your work flow. Broken down into a series of videos. Hell, I'd pay to see them. From the conception of a riff idea, to the fully developed song, that demonstrates how you create the drum and bass tracks. Once you get all of the tracks recorded, what steps you take to mix or master, that results in the incredible tunes you make.
LOL! Love the "wife, cases in the bathroom" comment! I sort of have the same situation in our guest bedroom. We call it The Forgotten Room. Everything that has no place in the "normal" part of the house ends up there (guitar cases, gear boxes, misc accessories. Thanks for the video Shawn. I myself will be putting a small studio together this year.
If you do make the UA plunge, the 1073 plug is incredible. The EQ is wonderful for acoustic tracking. Might eliminate the need for a physical 73-type pre.
I literally laughed out loud when you did the "my wife" comment and facial expression. Also, you remind of Gary Busey when he did the Buddy Holly movie. Christopher Watken has a good ear for cowbells. Great video, my brother. Keep up the excellent work. Lastly, Merry Christmas to you and yours. God bless.
I recently bought the "Demolition" album. Your fusion-y style is right up my alley and just the kind of music I have always wanted to do myself. After many years of playing country (the only thing that pays around here), you've inspired me to do my own thing, pull out my slide and start recording MY stuff again....time to learn the home recording world again from scratch. Unfortunately the last time I recorded not in studio was with a Boss BR-8 that I still have (with ZIP disks!!!!). The world has come a long way since then! Shawn thanks for the inspiration and the ridiculous licks!
I love how humble you are. Just a regular guy who happens to be an incredible musician who plays with the world's greatest. Thank you for spending your time and knowledge with us. And yeah, your wife sounds just like mine! Where do you get Coffee Crisp!? I can't find them anywhere in NJ!!
As someone with a similar home studio setup I love seeing how other folks work. I too have a spare bedroom that’s been turned into a workspace, complete with closet/iso room. No adjoining bathroom for me though. I’m also thinking about upgrading to a UA interface, I’m currently using a Focusrite 18i8. Great vid Shawn, thanks a bunch!
I loved that! Exactly what I wish I had going on. I have been looking to finally get some monitors, and will definitely look into those KRKs. Thanks again for all the content! Btw, you're actually a pretty funny guy underneath! Take care, and hope to see you perform or meet you soon!! Cheers!!

Shawn, Thank You so much for taking the time to do this video! So happy to learn that you are considering going down the Universal Audio path! Having done so in the last week myself, I cannot tell you how happy I am, both with the increased clarity I am perceiving with the hardware interface channel pre-amps themselves, the Thunderbolt connectivity, latency-free tracking, and plugin quality! The most difficult decision I am pondering is which plug-ins to obtain (I also bought a 3 for 1 Holiday Sale Pack) and in what order to obtain them. I hope that we can look foreword to your reviews of the plugins as well. The Suhr plugins for the SE-100 and the PT-100, along with the Fuchs and Freidman plugins are some of the best guitar amp sounds I personally have ever had the pleasure of interacting with! (Specially that SE-100!) I saw Patreon mentioned in the comments, and I implore you to explore that avenue if you can. As someone who bought an entire pedalboard at one time (those store guys still remember me by name for doing that now years later!) based (exactly) on your travel board, I would feel better about taking all the good advise and excellent direction I get from you on a weekly basis if I could, even in some small way, re-pay you for your time! I truly do mean this, Shawn: Thank You for all you do! It means a lot to a good many of us out here! - Take Care!

Thought the same thing. Makes me feel guilty. I need to do a massive clean-up, get rid of wall warts, old cables, general junk that has been lying around for years.
Thanks for the insight, Shawn. Look like you've done a great job of maximizing your space! I wanted to suggest a video topic: practice. I love gear and youtube as much as the next guitar player, but I'd love to hear from someone at your level about your musical journey and your views on practice, I.E. strictness of regimen, exercises you found valuable along the way, approach to breaking plateaus, etc. You know, just if you ever find yourself looking for a topic. I know I'd be interested, and I imagine more than a few of your other subscribers would be as well. Thanks again for all the great content!
IF you're going to have only 1x 2CH mic amp, the TG2 is a great choice. I worked with one for years but found it to be anything but clean or transparent and why it is one of the most popoular pres for running synths, e-pianos etc into as it destroys the jaggies compared to straight DI. I have Forrsell and that is clean. Super transparent FAST but still has weight. I think with all the Neve, API circuits etc I've used the Daking might be the best in the middle pre. Gobs of gain, quiet, very cool DI option but the build on the IV at least is a little flimsy compared to say, a Great River 19" which is a TANK but I guess Geoff did that to save money.
Hey man I just want to say thank you for making such amazing content!! Stellar playing and musicianship!! So awesome man!! Definitely the first thing I check when I am on UA-cam!! Super inspiring man!! Thank you!
It wasn't Derek Wells who recommended the KRKs was it? Saw in Bret's latest vid with him that he's using them too. Might just be coincidence. Thanks for the tour Shawn! FYI you can use your own IRs with the OX as well by disabling the cab sim stuff so you don't "need" to use the Suhr as well if you want to run your own IRs.
Thanks for the video. Any thoughts on a Matchless DC 30 (EL 84 tubes), Two Rock, Fender 57 Twin Reissue ? Please keep us posted on any updates on the Universal Audio.
The DC-30 is a great sounding amp for sure! I've not played the Fender 57 Twin Reissue or a Two Rock. I've certainly heard others play through those amps and they always sound great to me! Thanks for watching.
Fantastic space for a work-at-home studio. Surprised you didn't mention the Divided by 13 amp (did I miss it?). I saw it in the closet and I have seen it on many of your demos.
Great tour of your Studio Shawn! Love to see all the stuff that you make sound so awesome. Do you still use that Divided by 13 amp? I always loved that amp. Thanks again for the tour.
Awesome area! Would love to have something like that myself one day, only problem I see is with cases that close to the lew you might get a pee splatter from time to time.
Love your humor man. I am novice lead player and my go to guitars are mostly Taylor but I have 2 strats. I have been wondering on all these UA-cam videos what deal with the computer tables in the background and all the gear there. You have pretty much given me a good explanation of what’s going on but I’m still not clear what is it all for or how it is used. Very concise and clear walk-through though much appreciated.✌️🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for sharing. That amp shelf you made is terrific. Do you you happen to have a parts list for the build? I’d really like to make one like this. It would be perfect for my setup. Thanks
Wohoooo been waiting on one of these! One question is your cloud over your desk. How much does that help I keep seeing them now and think I need to do something like that over my desk.
Thanks, Robert!! I ended up putting a cloud up above my desk because my room was very reflective and had a lot of l issues based on its shape. My biggest problem was low-end standing waves. A cloud will not only reduce early reflection issues but it can also help with low-end build up and standing waves. Not sure that you would need to address that or not in your room. If you're not experiencing any problems from the mix position in your room I would leave it be.
It's a nice home to begin with, and you've made it even better! While shopping for MicPre's, I wanted the TG2, but was swayed by the words: It's a character pre. Ended up with Great River. If you do go with a solid state pre + EQ, don't lose touch with your 'character pre'. You're going to miss it. Happy 2019!
@@ShawnTubbs I also have the DRS-Q4 transformerless class A input stage pre, and this solid state section is said to drive the transformer coupled output section, and has EQ. But the difference between the GR is night & day. I wish I would have gotten the TG2, but was lured by an EQ. In hindsight, a single space MP1NV with EQ1NV would give one channel of perfection. A gorgeous preamp channel w EQ. Try before buy!
