I enjoy all of your topic Tuesdays. It’s great to hear a common sense perspective about taekwondo and other martial arts. It’s the first thing that I look for on Tuesday morning. I would enjoy giving your other channel a listen as well. Thanks Mike
@@mikeandlisabanjofiddle8280 thank you as always Mike. My other channel is very new, an experiment where I play with some wild ideas. It’s not what I would call common sense haha. If you are up for it, here is a link to one of the videos: ua-cam.com/video/i1coy24b-1c/v-deo.htmlsi=mkwLHAPxuMS4JGAO
Just regarding the guitar question - a guy in our dojang is something of a well known guitarist and singer-song writer here in Australia. He wears sparing gloves, I think like they use in karate competition to protect his hands. His hands are his career, but it doesn't stop him from taking part.
I hope you can recover! I also stopped going to training because of a herniated disc, and am missing it so much, but I hope I could start going again some day. For now I just do leg workout, stretching (although this has some impact on the spine discs too) and some slow motion kicking at home only... Something that helps me are huge doses ot vit C, like 1-2 grams/day split in three takes, and Ketoprofen, perhaps you could try that too
I really love topic tuesday, so here is my contribution in form of a question: How can I help a child (in my case 13 years old) to improve their kihap, if it is afraid or embarrassed to scream in front of the class? You're doing great work, thank you for all your videos, and of course i wish you a quick recovery💝
Hello Master Paul: please keep us updated on your hip healing journey; I'm 55, a bluebelt and I'm also struggling with hip joint arthritis. Following that thought, my question to you is: Can certain physical limitations limit one's official progress in taekwondo? I really want to progress through the belt system, but more importantly i want to get better at martial arts, but i fear that worsening flexibility might limit me in terms of standards set forth by official sanctioning/governing bodies of taekwondo. My second question is on a much lighter note: taekwondo sparring in the Olympics has been incredible to watch. What kinds of things should viewers be taking away or learning from these amazing athletes and are there techniques on display that can work in a regular taekwondo class or in practical self-defense applications? Thank you as always for your hard work and candor and we wish you the best recovery outcome.
I pray your hip gets better. I practically live in my physical therapist office to get cupping and other pain relieving methods as I’m working towards my second degree black belt. Feel better sir
After living in Japan during most of my 20s and studying Taekwondo under a Korean national, I always shudder whenever I saw in Cobra Kai and Karate Kid when they bow whilst looking each other in the eye! Was always taught that looking down and not making eye contact is the respectful way to bow. But quite funny because even Mr Miyagi in the first Karate Kid movie tells Daniel to maintain eye contact….even Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon! I guess it’s a kind of Hollywood spin on “do not turn your back on the potential enemy” / “don’t trust anyone”. …am I missing the memo on bowing in martial arts? How are you teaching it in your Dojang? All this said, I love Cobra Kai! Just my knee jerk reaction.
@@ArthurBorgesGuitar all the best! May your fingers stay safe and protected. (If the coaches are ok with it, you can wear big gloves to protect your hands)
Cobra Kai, as much as I enjoy it there are so many little things that annoy me. Such as the insignificance of belts, they just wear whatever colour matches the rest of their cloths. I also laughed in episode 2 where you see the "Evil" Karate Koreans in the forest, the background blackbelts practicing in the air, nothing wrong with that but their movements are so painfully sloppy. Besides that, I just watch it as I like the characters, the writing is pretty predictable and always looking for the biggest unrealistic drama. I agree with your description of Cobra Kai regarding soft, hard, good bad and what I appreciate the most, the gray, how they explore why the bad is bad.
Hi Paul, do you have any videos of you competing in poomsae or performing any of the taekwondo poomsae? I would really like to how skilled you are at forms. Thanks.

I brutally broke my right hand during sparring at a belt test. Had to stay out for over a year. It sucked
Now I just do poomsae and regular class but no sparring

I was told to keep eye contact in Kendo but nowhere else.
Thanks for the answer! You really helped to decide. I will try tkd by the next few days.

Funny, maybe I should watch Kobra Kai.
Martial arts audition commercial for kids
Sorry, not a fan of Cobra Kai. Watched the first three seasons but no more. Found it to be ridiculous. I simply could not suspend disbelief anymore.
Stops watching at the best part. Not smart
