For those interested, Nic Westermann recently wrote an in depth blog post on soaking axe heads in various types of oils and liquids. He also mentions why he and other carvers don't glue their wedges. Left with a small tab it allows carving hatchets to be disassembled. Similar to how some Swedish hewing axes were also hung.
