What is your favorite summer plant? Let us know in the comments :)
Is the shredded cedar mulch also available in a bagged form? Where do you buy it? I assume you buy in trailer loads. I don’t need a lot but would like to try some. Thnx, what a beautiful garden!
@@jeaniebeak Yes, we buy it about 100yds at a time. Home Improvement retailers that sell stone, brick, concrete, etc stock it in our town, as well as box stores.
I love Oriental Lillies🥰; they smell great 💯
John, you sparked something in me where do I get that shredded cedar mulch. I'm a Fresno native and am feeling the heat as well. Thanks for this video !!
If you live in Fresno currently you can get a product very similar to the double grind shredded cedar that we use at Clovis Stone or Rosenbalm Rockery. Thanks for watching :)
I have used alot of hardwood mulch which breaks down into a nice humus after so long.
Great choice!
Japanese Maples can only be grown in 100% shade here in the IE, So Cal.
Japanese Maples do not like the full sun of southern California. Shade or partial shade would be ideal!
Oh thank God I have been using J&B's for years and I mulch because it will be 102 deg today and 112 deg on Wed here in eastern Washington...record breaking Yikes!
Wow that is hot! You should be good to go then :) Just be sure to keep plants watered adequately and do not overwater them or having standing water. How are your plant doing in the heat so far?
I watched your video (thanks for the info!) and guessed the plant.
You are most welcome! Thanks for watching and playing the game. We will announce the winners tomorrow :)
Those zinnias are beautiful, are they Magellan or Dreamland. Looking forward to using your products this year . 🙂👍
Magellan w/ lots of our Blend :)
I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ur vids. I see ur results is beauty beautiful.
Hiyee n hope alls well
Can i grow the red Japanese leaf plant in the hot arid vegas climate as well? Its too beautiful 😘😘😘
It is possible to grow a red maple in the sun in Las Vegas if you plant it in the fall with proper excavation and organic matter w/ lots of Blend and keep its roots nice and moist every summer. So, possible but not easy!

What about Peonies in Southern California? Escondido area can get into the high 90's
Peonies can be grown in high heat areas like yours, but not easy. This garden that we filmed this video has several beautiful peonies that bloom every year. If already planted, use a cup of our Blend in root zone of each peony. If planting, dig and thoroughly pulverize soil 4 times the width and twice the depth of the peony - backfill with native soil and 2 cups Blend mixed with native. Let us know how they do :)
I have clay soil. Which John and Bobs should I use. I am zone 9 San Diego
For fastest, most comprehensive results we recommend our "Blend" at 16-20lbs per 1,000sqft and right over the top of the Blend with our Penetrate Liquid Biotiller at 8oz per 1,000 sq ft. Then once each week apply 3 more similar applications of Penetrate. - John
Hi John and Chip! We have Rose of Sharon, but only one blooms well, do they need full sun? Also, our crape myrtles haven't been blooming, any tips? We live in Tower District and have very sandy and hard soil. Thanks!
Common reason for non blooming Crape Myrtles is aphid infestation. Watch our video on that here: ua-cam.com/video/dSYTnhXUVLo/v-deo.html and use our Blend with a topping of earth worm castings. If no aphid, 2 cups of our Blend in the Crape Myrtle root zone will help, also that will help the Rose of Sharon. Both plants do need some sun to bloom and that can be a problem in the Tower.
Nicotina
Good Job!
