I'm just 12 minutes in, and am hooked. I've been following Brady's and prof Mike's collaboration for years. I've seen them on screen more often than some of the family members.
It's delightful to discover the professor's path in life.

Been waiting for a Mike Merrifield podcast! My joint top favourite regular guest of all Brady's guests across all channels. Wish he had been my teacher🙌 Always jump at the chance to watch him when he's in Sixty Symbols / Deep Sky / Numberphile.

Should've asked him which observatory proposal he'd fund if he wrote the checks

An astronomy question: are the rotational planes of star systems in the Milky Way fully random, or is there a preference (like being in mostly the same plane as the galactic disk)?

Every time I listen to one of these, I think about how their life matches to my own. And it may not be the healthiest thing in the world, but I still do it.
In this case, I do have terrible handwriting and spelling, but it has nothing to do with hippie culture, I tend to writer's cramp and migrains and disgraphia is a thing. But not enough for it to be diagnosed as anything, so I spent a large part of my time having people lecture me on why I should have neater writing and be able to spell but I was simply not able to do it reliably.
I thought I might be interested in engeneering or politics, but as I've gotten older, I think art or design would have been better. But I never really gave it a try. I'm really glad to have learned what I did, but I think I missed out. Then again, I may have felt that way regardless.
And yeah, it's a chain of chance. My own hasn't worked out as well as his. And these things happen.

lol I’ve been looking for a STEM job cause of my terrible handwriting too! Was drawn more to numbers partially due to the fact people had a hard time reading my letters and not numbers. A couple years out of college. I believe I went to a good elementary school though.

Keep in mind it probably used to be much easier than now because going to university really wasn’t as much of an option as it is now. It probably wasn’t easy, but certainly was easier.
