I just inherited a 2006 Limited V8 with only 22k miles, black and in mint condition both exterior and interior. It was kept in a garage the entire time and hardly driven! I’m beyond blessed right now.
Wowza! I just recently bout an 08 with 160,000 miles. It’s beautiful and runs like new! Hard to find one with with low mileage like yours. I’d say you hit the jackpot! Lol
I own the 2006 4Runner V8 Sport Edition. With 39,000 original miles. The best vehicle I have ever owned! I moved to Costa Rica, and shipped it to Costa Rica. 🏖 Costa Ricans are fascinated with the Toyota 4Runner. They admired it, as if it was a Ferrari.
This is the 1st time I've seen one of your videos - great job young man!! I stumbled upon this as my wife and I just purchased one of these for our young (21 YO) daughter. She wrecked/totaled her 05 Tahoe - which we had owned since 2007. We have had a lot of Toyotas over the years and are fans. My wife drives a 22 4Runner Pro (we purchased it new) and I drive a 23 Tacoma Pro - I bought it new after trading in my 19 Tacoma. I bought my 19 Tacoma in Jan of 19 and put 250K miles on it in 4 years...ZERO trouble!! When we were looking for a replacement vehicle for our daughter we leaned into looking at Toyotas. Let me add our son had a 2002 Tacoma (Off Road 4x4) - purchased new by a close friend. My son was hit head on by a woman going the wrong way on an interstate (over 70 MPH). He - Thanks be to God - survived. Toyota gained even more loyalty from our family. My son replaced his vehicle with a 2002 Tundra. His Tacoma had over 300K miles and the insurance company gave him over 13K (I believe my friend paid 21K in 02). We purchased a 1 owner - from the owner - 2006 V8 4x4 Sport Edition 4Runner...with 84,500 Miles. It had been regularly serviced - even having the sunroof motor replaced a few months before we purchased. They have not had the timing belt replaced, so we have that scheduled (along with water pump, thermostat, starter and all idler pully/tensioner etc). Unfortunately we paid 16K (not including tax/tag)...a step price, but for a southern (no rust), one owner vehicle ....Our mechanic thought it will be worth it in the long run; and should last our daughter quite a while and keep her safe. Again this was a great descriptive video - and much shorter than this long winded note. I have subscribed to your channel - not because I intend on getting another used car, but I appreciate seeing a young fellow doing a good job.
Just picked up a 2004 v8. I fell instantly in love with everything about it. Sure it's got its quirks, but I just love how capable it is and I roll over curbs every chance I get. I know the exact feeling when hearing that v8 rev up. I don't even care that I get basically 10mpg city with my lead food.
I have a 2005 V8 Sport 4WD, bought new. Only 158000 miles. No accidents. Arizona driven, with zero rust. Friends with Big Two service manager...has same year and model 4Runner. Always maintained well. Simply Love it! ❤
Great video, love your style when doing car reviews, you clearly have lots of knowledge but aren’t over the top and obnoxious like some others on UA-cam
I love this V8. It's almost hard to tell it's even running. It's so smooth. I also can't feel the shifts sometimes. It's crazy and I have almost 300k on it.
Mine is a 2004 with over 330k miles on it, and it drives like it just came off the showroom floor. Tight steering, super smooth shifts, just a joy to drive!
Still have a 2004 4R Sport V8 I purchased in spring 2004. It’s got close to 280K miles on it and still runs very smooth. I’ve enjoyed my 4R by taking it to all over the eastern US for camping and hiking. I once towed 7K lbs moving from Tampa to northern VA doing 75 miles on average with no problem. But it has its share of issues that 4Gen 4Rs have, namely spots of rust on rear hatch, crack manifold, and stuck brake calipers. Still, I love driving this thing more than my wife’s Tesla Model 3 Performance. Unlike most owners, I love the XRES suspension which allows me to drive it like a sport car on highways. At one time I had TerraGrapplers on it and it was very nice set of tires. I will probably sell it in 2024 and will miss it.
I think when it comes to older Toyotas in general, it's the same principle as ford excursion, there just isn't much of a choice when it comes to picking a better alternative. Also I strongly agree with what you said, they are utilitarian, simple yet well build.
Great review! I have a 4th Gen V8 and by far the best vehicle I have ever owned, and I have had a lot. Mine is a limited and now 20 years old and still looks and works like new. I have had it for many years and plan on having it for many more years. I'm a nature / landscape photographer and it always gets me to where I need to go. Absolutely love it.
Man that’s awesome! Almost the same setup then, I’m 16 but when I’m ready to hit the road my parents are giving me their old 2005 Limited V8 RWD. Silver and a mint interior, 168,000 on the clock, but my dads buddy got his over the 1-Million mile mark with the exact same spec. He never posted about it online, but he still drives it to this day,and he lives close to us in the California desert so none have any rust.
I'm new to the 4th gen, 03 V6 Limited 2WD here. I already want a 06-09 V8 but am still very happy with the V6. It's quiet and runs like a clock plus timing chain is reassuring. V6 had more horsepower than non-VVTi V8 so it is not gutless around town. So far, I'm averaging 17 mpg in mixed driving which is good enough for me.
I have a 2006 V8 4runner sport 4x4. 261k miles on the odometer, all original drivetrain, runs and drives like new still. Arguably one of the best powertrains ever made.
The blind spot mirrors and big sideview mirrors are there for towing! You can see the hitch hookup and see your trailer better! Cool features. Great review! (I have a V8 Sport!)
I just happened to stumble on your video. I bought my '08 4.7 Limited 4x4 4Runner in '07 after owning 3 Ford Exploders. Immediately I noticed a much better and solid ride. The transmission is a lot smoother and never had anything major to fix. The three Exploders I had previously had major issues. When I found out the 4Runner had a V8 4x4, I was all over that. I needed it to pull my boat. The other thing I noticed, I got better mileage with the 4.7L V8 than I ever got on all the V8 4.0L Exploders I had. I got about 13 mpg at best on the Exploders and I'm getting just under 17 mpg on my 4Runner. To this day she runs like a champ and purrs like a kitten. The best vehicle investment I've ever made. I'm keeping this one until she dies that's for sure. One last thing regarding the rear spoiler, the exhaust fumes does come in if you don't set the sunroof and tail gate window properly. The best thing about those 4runners either v8 or v6, is they're good at *everything*. It's on the second place of the vehicle of choice if there's an apocalypse, only topped by Land Cruiser. The 4th gen V8s seem to have gotten crazy crazy expensive over the last few months. A couple have come up on Bring A Trailer, and they've sold for well over $20k.
Yup, plus a timing belt vs timing chain. I bought my 07 V6 Limited 4wd in 2017 with 145k for 6 grand. Put a UDR supercharger for $7k and she now has 355 wheel hp and 340tq, easily beating the V8 in power and efficiency.
In 2013, I flew to Vegas to buy my 07 Limited V8. It had 46700 there and now it just went over 84000. Lifted 2.5 front, 1.5 rear and has the 8 hole Trail wheels off a '12. Just put its third set of tires on today, in fact. So smooth! Running synthetic through everything.
Have a 2003.v8 4x4.galactic grey color.that works with the Grey plastic all around.2"lift 31"tires.200k..super smooth.did resonator delete with 3"tip..sounds like a 80,s z28....pulls boat like a boss..my favorite SUV ever.
I bought one of these for $700 that was sitting at a church and looked abandoned. Had the rear plastic bumper and trim above the rear tire broken and the keys were missing. Need a battery and new key. Started up and drove it away. It 230k and now it has 280k and runs like a champ. I lifted it 3 front and 2 rear, so gas sucks but I drive my other car for the gas mileage. Best Buy I’ve ever made, hands down!
I have the 03 v8 bought it $6k two years ago with 140k miles, though it’s not 4wd it runs great!!! I’ve taken it to Yellowstone, Zion, Mt. Rushmore and still running strong!!!
2005 v8 owner here, I think the v8 is especially nice for running bigger tires. With 33s it doesn’t ever feel bogged on the highway or in town. The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is the ground clearance.
Got a stock 07 V8 Ltd with 155k miles for 9k back in Jun '21, juuust before the chip shortage went crazy and used car prices shot up. Got really lucky with my timing, and although i may have to shell around 4k to replace the cracked manifold (inevitable in 4th gen v8s), I have absolutely no regrets.
@@gabrielshensky348 Was considering it,. but eventually I bought myself a beautifulpair of Magnaflow headers+cats. Also bought the muffler. Now i am saving up to finally get them installed, hopefully before Thanksgiving.
Awesome video! I have a 2007 Sport Edition V8. 190k and I’ve had it for 4 years I got it with 100k on it from a family friend who was the original owner. It’s in excellent condition and I’ve worked really hard to maintain it while putting so many miles on it. I also put a Gibson exhaust and K&N CAI, so it sounds really good. I will never, ever sell it.
@@fredd298 it’s not loud, just very deep. I also drive like a Gramma so if anyone is gonna get annoyed at me it’ll be because of how slow I’m going not how loud my car is
You completely missed why the V8 is so in demand; the FULL TIME 4WD. Why Toyota eliminated it is a mystery to me. My V8 full time gripped the road like no other vehicle I've ever owned and I''ve owned over 50 vehicles in my old age. It's an experience you have to EXPERIENCE; you will then understand WHY the V8 is so in demand and desired. If also saved my daughter's life because of it.
Actually Toyota kept the full time 4wd system after the V8, it’s available in the limited trim 4runner’s. You could also get a GX460 to get a V8 with full time 4wd.
It's a torsen center differential in the transfer case, just like the Audi quattro. You can get it in the sequoia as well. Toyota with center diff lock button,, or all time 4wd have it. My Lexus lx450 had it.
The later 4.7 v8s have 263hp and 323 lb-ft of torque on paper, and that's because Toyota switched to using the SAE standards to rate power. In reality they made closer to 280hp.
Lol the air scoop on the back does not prevent exhaust from getting in with the rear window down. Hard acceleration sucks that right in. Love my 4th gen though 😍
Just got rid of my 1999 4Runner with over 300k miles. It had suspension work/big wheels and was Manuel. Now I want an automatic stock 4Runner since I’m living in the city now, looking at a v8 like this
Great review, 4th gen 4 runners are the best! I will say the climate control buttons become second nature once you get used to them. The best part is you don't have to look at what you press it becomes muscle memory! I definitely have come to appreciate that design cue.
I have a 2006 V8 Limited for sale right now. No rust , never been in wreck , no mud, no rock climbing. Very clean truck. PM if interested. Truck has 190k miles but can go another 5 years no issue at all. (11,400 obo)
@Jesus is Lord I had a good amount of things done to the 2006 V8 4runner. I got 11k for it. Which is insane so I had to let it go! I paid 18k for it 10 years ago. 4runner had 195k miles. Low miles for the year it was. They are great trucks. Already thinking about re-buying another one cuz my new truck is not a Toyota and we all know they don’t last like a yota does. Only reason I didn’t go back with a new 4runner they don’t make them in V8 anymore.
The V8 engine has problems with broken exhaust headers and secondary air intake system (SAIS). The SAIS can cost over $3000 to fix properly or a bypass kit from Hewitt or RuTech for $200 plus labor to install. The exhaust headers don't necessarily have to be fixed.
Nice review! I'm looking into a new SUV in the next couple of years. Have a 2003 Jeep WJ Limited V8 with 160k miles. It's mostly been around my city unlike my college SUV, 1995 Ford Explorer XLT. And considering the abysmal state of Jeep the past 15+ years I'm surprised at how well it has held up. Just had to get engine gaskets and oil pan replaced for the first time ever. However, it needs a number of fixes that would probably total over the value of the vehicle so I'm going to upgrade. Haven't decided, but really leaning at looking for a rare 4th gen V8. Other thoughts are a 2020-2022 4Runner TRD Pro/Off Road Premium, GX470, or GX460. That V8 though...love having one in Jeep. Sure, I'm not going to beat a sports car on the interstate, but I can get around when needed. Acceleration isn't an issue. The sound.....ugh Toyota has to bring back V8s. EVs take more from the environment than the benefit, but no one wants to deal with that fact.
It's a tiny V8 though. Drive one, then drive a full sized Tahoe with an 8. It's only slightly more power than the V6 version but you get absolutely raped on gas.
Bern, thanks you and your reviews. I've purchased a 2006 Rav4 V6 and 2015 GS350 FSPORT. Perhaps a V8 4runner in the distant future. But dang, are they expensive!
Land Cruisers are so legendary the prices are insane. On Japanese auctions you can get a Lexus LS 460 easily for half that of a Land Cruiser 200 with the 4.6L V8 even though the new prices were probably very similar.
I'm in the market for one. I think I want to avoid that xreas suspension and also make sure that timing belt has been changed if I grab the V8. Interference motor I believe so that is huge. Also, the earlier V8 models had issues with manifold cracking or leaks and that is an expensive repair.
Yes! This one is fully refreshed new timing belt water pump pulleys belts tensioners etc. As well as a new suspension all around struts shocks control arms upper and lower end links air bags.
Many people have never even changed the timing belt with 200,000 miles on the original belt. Broken timing belts are far more rare on this engine than on Honda engines.
A 2wd 4 Runner: why? If you live in a place where it rains and there are potholes that destroy any sedan suspension, you need one of these. Not for off road but for city driving.
@@BernonCars Thanks for your response, it is a V6 engine, and we decided Not to purchase the 2004 the Toyota 4Runner due to the Price. Also, 4Runners that were manufactured between 2003 and 2009, were most likely to have a defective undercarriage that is prone to excessive and premature Rusting.
I have a 2004 V8 Limited, which I love, on the highway gives great MPG for having the 4.7L, last Saturday a small pick up crashed from behind, straigh into the hitch it went, nothing happened to my bumper, it felt like a little bump, the 4Runner didn't move an inch which was perfect since I had another SUV in front of me, the other guy had his front bumper, headlights, grill and hood lock broken from the hit. If I was driving any other car, the damage would have been bigger
I have that engine in my 1st gen Sequoia, which I bought because comparatively used 4Runners were going for twice as much. Love my Sequoia. More space than 4Runner and just as good off road.
Have the 05 v8. Great rig overall but I would say avoid the V8. There is an emissions defect on top of the engine that pops up about 150k miles and costs $2200 to fix. Also, avoid the xreas suspension. Eventually it fails and no one can work on it, other than to replace it for $4500. Cost me $1k to cut out, and another $900 to install actual shocks. I still have the rig with 167k but this 2 listed issues are big repairs. Fyi. V6 will be better for lower costs of maintenance.

That's so nice!! You're driving a dream truck haha
Wowww what a catch!!!
I have the 03 v8 bought it $6k two years ago with 140k miles, though it’s not 4wd it runs great!!! I’ve taken it to Yellowstone, Zion, Mt. Rushmore and still running strong!!!
That's a keeper!! I want one lol
They made a V8 without 4wd? Had no idea.
@@PJ-mj1hy yeah, but i just a gx… still keeping my runner though😉
One of the most complete reviews
Great work
Thank you very much!
2005 v8 owner here, I think the v8 is especially nice for running bigger tires. With 33s it doesn’t ever feel bogged on the highway or in town. The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is the ground clearance.
Good points!
Bro your reviews are solid and thorough. Keep up the nerd facts too please. I'll be back for more content for sure
Thank you!!
Replace em with Doug Thorleys!
@@gabrielshensky348 Was considering it,. but eventually I bought myself a beautifulpair of Magnaflow headers+cats. Also bought the muffler. Now i am saving up to finally get them installed, hopefully before Thanksgiving.
@mongoose1618 what did you end up spending for the setup and install? I'd rather go aftermarket if my exhaust cracked.
Lol “chip shortage”
Awesome video! I have a 2007 Sport Edition V8. 190k and I’ve had it for 4 years I got it with 100k on it from a family friend who was the original owner. It’s in excellent condition and I’ve worked really hard to maintain it while putting so many miles on it. I also put a Gibson exhaust and K&N CAI, so it sounds really good. I will never, ever sell it.
It might sound nice to you, but no one likes to hear loud car exhausts past their house.
@@fredd298 it’s not loud, just very deep. I also drive like a Gramma so if anyone is gonna get annoyed at me it’ll be because of how slow I’m going not how loud my car is
Sweet setup!!
Not every one of them had 4wd. There were 2wd 4Runner's and the one I drove was a dream... Wish I could've bought the damn thing
@@DGAF_AK87 True. Had a cousin who bought a v8 and it turns out to be a 2wd. No wonder he got it for 8k in this market 😅
It's a torsen center differential in the transfer case, just like the Audi quattro. You can get it in the sequoia as well. Toyota with center diff lock button,, or all time 4wd have it. My Lexus lx450 had it.
Oh the 5th gen t4r limiteds only are a full time 4WD system as well
The later 4.7 v8s have 263hp and 323 lb-ft of torque on paper, and that's because Toyota switched to using the SAE standards to rate power. In reality they made closer to 280hp.
Neat!!
Now I want an automatic stock 4Runner since I’m living in the city now, looking at a v8 like this
These feel like tanks! You’d like it
Love your video. I have an 03 V8 and have been driving it for 9 years. You touched on a lot of points that many owners don’t even know. Nice work man.
Thank you! I love nerding out about these haha
I just bought one from my buddy for a 1000 bucks. 300,000 miles, runs great. I just need to do the valve covers gaskets and breaks
Good deal!! It will serve you well
I previously owned a 2000 Lexus ES300 and then went car-less for 2 years. I just bought a black 2006 Toyota 4Runner V8 Limited with 128,000 miles!
Nice!!
I just got my 2007 4runner last month. Other then the rear wheel bearing noise I love mine. And mine is the 4.0 liter v6.
Bern, I have to compliment you on this review. Good job!!!
Thank you!!
I picked up mine at the end of '19. '07 V8 Limited. I have the JBL system w/ nav & rear DVD, and it also has the mirrors in the rear corners.
That's a beautiful vehicle right there!
Really good video, well put together... '05 sport 6,,, i wonder if the mirrors in the back can be added now
Thank you much! Yeah I think they can be. Just gotta find em
Great review, 4th gen 4 runners are the best! I will say the climate control buttons become second nature once you get used to them. The best part is you don't have to look at what you press it becomes muscle memory! I definitely have come to appreciate that design cue.
Thank you! Yeah I think I’d get used to it if I owned one. I want one lol.
excellent review my man. you are very good at this
I appreciate that!
My favorite feature is the center flip open "Hamburger Tray" as toyota called it.
Outstanding review . Well done Bern.
Thank you!!
Awesome video dude!!
Thank you!!
I have a 2006 V8 Limited for sale right now. No rust , never been in wreck , no mud, no rock climbing. Very clean truck. PM if interested. Truck has 190k miles but can go another 5 years no issue at all.
(11,400 obo)
Good luck with the sale!!
@@BernonCars Been Sold My Guy!
Really nice review 👍 Very thorough.
Thank you!
Great video. Going to buy one now 👍 super excited
Hope you enjoy it!!
The limited version of the 4.7 V8 has the blind spot mirrors too.
Gotta love the V8 4 Runner brother, I'll never get why Toyota didn't put the new 4.6L I-Force V8 in the newer 4 Runner like Lexus did to the GX460.
That would’ve been the perfect SUV
@@BernonCars Exactly mate
Dude I have a 2007 “driftwood pearl” !! I’ve always wanted to know the actual color !! You’re awesome and subscribing now
Thank you!!!
The V8 engine has problems with broken exhaust headers and secondary air intake system (SAIS). The SAIS can cost over $3000 to fix properly or a bypass kit from Hewitt or RuTech for $200 plus labor to install. The exhaust headers don't necessarily have to be fixed.
Good to know
Great review Bern. Waiting for my 08 V8 to arrive.
Thank you!
2003 v8 4runner limited. sadly 2wd but im at a quarter million miles and still going
Thank you for watching!
It's a tiny V8 though. Drive one, then drive a full sized Tahoe with an 8. It's only slightly more power than the V6 version but you get absolutely raped on gas.
Don’t forget the secret glove compartment inside of the glove compartment.
Great review man! Keep it up 👍
Thank you!
2005 Toyota 4 runner SR5, Mileage: 347,120. No accidents based on CARFAX, well maintained. Asking price: $3,800. Thinking tooo much?
That's reasonable if its in good shape to me
GREAT INFO, THANK YOU!!
Glad it was helpful!
Bern, thanks you and your reviews. I've purchased a 2006 Rav4 V6 and 2015 GS350 FSPORT. Perhaps a V8 4runner in the distant future. But dang, are they expensive!
Woww sweet!! I'm sure you've been enjoying them! 4Runner's are woefully expensive haha
@@BernonCars love my rav 4 no one expects it's quickness.
The AWD Fsport handles amazing
That's fantastic to hear!
Land Cruisers are so legendary the prices are insane. On Japanese auctions you can get a Lexus LS 460 easily for half that of a Land Cruiser 200 with the 4.6L V8 even though the new prices were probably very similar.
Yeah! 2006 LC’s are like 30k lol. Nuts!!
Excellent review
Thank you!
Awesome video! Love my 4Runner v8.
Hell yeah!
As well as a new suspension all around struts shocks control arms upper and lower end links air bags.
do not worry about Xreas , cut a lines get regular shocks and struts and you golden .
I owned a 07' V8 4runner. Loved that vehicle!!
Lose the damage amplifier on the front end and grab yourself a ARB overlanding steel bumper so if you hit a deer you don't DIE!
Imagine the FJ Cruiser had this powertrain. 😳 It would be even more expensive than it already is now. 😂😭
Easily 50k
Great video!!!! I love my 4th Gen V6
Right on!
Why would you take the running boards off?
I like the taller look and the added clearance! I also just personally don't use them
I regret selling mine 😢, was such an athletic vehicle
Doug DeMuro vibes… but overall, great video!
Doug is a bit of an influence of mine! I think we’re just both weirdos 😂 I appreciate it! 😅
I have a V-6 one owner 220,000 miles runs like brand new - I think it would be neat to have one of those V-8’s but I bet they’re hard to fine!
They are! And expensive!
Many people have never even changed the timing belt with 200,000 miles on the original belt. Broken timing belts are far more rare on this engine than on Honda engines.
Yeah its a complete pain when the belt goes
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS‼️‼️‼️
Thank you!
Do the front seats recline all the way flat?
Almost flat but not like a bed!
Thank you for this! Did your friend sell this and how much?
Thank you! He sold it for about 16k I believe!
A 2wd 4 Runner: why? If you live in a place where it rains and there are potholes that destroy any sedan suspension, you need one of these. Not for off road but for city driving.
love your vids!
Thank you!!
Great review, is the 2004 Toyota 4Runner a worthy buy in 2024, maybe, around 84,000 miles and asking price $14,009, which appears Pricey
Thank you! Is it a V8? More worthwhile for a V8 Limited. Otherwise 10-11k I think
I just got one (V6) as my first car because jeeps are so expensive. Didn’t know these cars are this valuable! 👀
Yes they are! Its crazy haha
Update: lost my car (stolen) while out of the country.
They’re tanks!!
The limited got speakers instead of the little mirrors in the back.
got mine (05) for a thousand, but it's pretty smooshed up and still has other issues. it still runs and drives good, though
Damnn thats one helluva deal
I have that engine in my 1st gen Sequoia, which I bought because comparatively used 4Runners were going for twice as much. Love my Sequoia. More space than 4Runner and just as good off road.
I was thinking about those for one of myself! Just even more of a hog haha
They say you need a supercharge to the V6 to get the same out of what the 8 has to offer
10:45 the window visor left the cat 😂
😂😂
Have the 05 v8. Great rig overall but I would say avoid the V8. There is an emissions defect on top of the engine that pops up about 150k miles and costs $2200 to fix. Also, avoid the xreas suspension. Eventually it fails and no one can work on it, other than to replace it for $4500. Cost me $1k to cut out, and another $900 to install actual shocks. I still have the rig with 167k but this 2 listed issues are big repairs. Fyi. V6 will be better for lower costs of maintenance.
Nice! Yeah some of them can certainly be money pits lol
Love the video ✌️
Thank you!
