So the V8 4runner is the Lexus GX. The V8 4R was based on the Landcruiser Prado, which lexus picked up as the GX470 and today it's the Lexus GX460. The V8 4runner was dropped because people didn't want to PAY for the extra cost. Lexus buyers were OK with paying the markup. Again the V8 4runner never went anywhere except over to Lexus and you can still pick up a 2023 Lexus GX460 with a V8 engine today...
I have to disagree about the 2WD V8 being useless! Not only does it have the highest towing capacity, it also has a secret weapon known as AUTO LSD which is essentially 2WD A-TRAC. It works amazing and I've never needed 4WD even climbing ice or snow with decent all terrains
If i had it to do over again, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2WD, should be lighter w/o the T-case and front diff and thus, less complex, easier to maintain than my '03 Limited. But either way, love it!
Have an '03 V8 AWD Limited and yes it's a mall-crawler! 149K miles, had some rust issues with frame that I continue to address but it never got totally out of control like the pictures you show. Has Bilstein 4600/FJ springs, SPC UCA, Super Pro poly bushes in LCA and also in all rear control arms, other than that mostly stock and Yes, I love it!
Hey Ronald do you mind if I ask how do you take care of the rust? I recently bought a 04 4Runner 82K miles and it has minor rust, I live in CA so the weather hopefully will help ease the rust or whatever. Also do you have any mods on your 4Runner? Thanks
Do the poly bushing have any noise and vibration? Amy downsides? I out LCAs on my mustang with poly bushings and no one told me about the constant annoying metal raining sound. Don't want to make the same mistake with my 4runner
Excellent Video . Loved every second of it . The humor , the factual and the documentary style . -toyota Owner of an 03 4runner with just near 300K miles on 33’S and a 4” lift. Yeah the girl got a drinking problem.
The one thing the video got wrong - GMC Envoys are body on frame too. They are heavy beasts with fully boxed frames, 4x4, solid rear axle and independent front suspension, and some of them came with the "LS" based aluminum 5.3 V8.
I finally got my hands on one of these with ehhh minimal rust. It is an absolute blast to drive! It annoying that they got rid of them. I think they would sell very well still. I would much rather have a v8 than a v6 regardless of mileage. Sadly, people can't do that anymore it seems or just dont want to. They'd rather charge their cars and have a nice quiet ride. Idk how people do it. I gotta be able to hear it a little and feel it rumble. Every time I see videos similar to these. I am reminded that I was born in such an annoying time that things are changing towards electric vehicles, and "fuel economy" is a problem. I just hope i am able to get enjoyment out of this vehicle and others like them before gas prices are just impossible to pay. Also nice video! I enjoyed hearing about the history of the 4th gens. I am still conviced that in 03 to 09 they hired a redneck and he conviced them to put a v8 in them lmao
Body on frame doesnt handle as well as the highlander or trailblazer? How did you make such a great video and insert that nugget of trash info? No offense sick video man
I have a 2008 limited V8. The smoothness of the engine is nice and the full time 4WD here in Colorado is nice. Hoping it lasts a long time
I have an 07 v8 4x4 in the mile high as well lmao
06 v8 in Colorado here haha
Same, I hate that full time 4wd is only on the limited in the 5 gens
Running a 4th gen v8 and I will never get rid of it
V6 rav4, v8 4Runner. Those are gems

Good summary!
Exactly, though I wish Toyota still made the V8 for the 4 Runner.

Great video man glad to see it so soon 😊, could you do the diamond in the rough chevy cobalt next ?
I had a friend build a supercharged one for land speed racing! Most violent 4-cylinder I'd ever been in. I think that's an awesome idea.
@AaronA I'm very excited to see it bro good luck 👍 even the ls and lt models with a aftermarket turbo or supercharger were nasty as the ss
0:47 looks a lot like mine but I've a lil b front bumper
2004 V8 limited 4x4 and shes a beauty. The ONLY worries I have are the timing belt and ABS pump going out.
I would to love to listen to you talk about the Mitsubishi 3000GT! Keep up the good work!
That car is super slept on! I always freak when I see them. Excellent video idea 👍 stay posted!

The word is out on the Lexus GX470, they are on par with the 4Runners on the used market now
Your lexus suv is our toyota land cruser with different headlights they come with a 3 liter turbo diesel
Body on frame doesnt handle as well as the highlander or trailblazer? How did you make such a great video and insert that nugget of trash info? No offense sick video man
Now theres a Lexus tax on the GX470 and LX470
Selling my 06 V8 if anyone's interested lol

haha I'd be happy to cover them. They're such a cool mix of old school styling and tech with a touch of nostalgia, even when they were new.
@@AaronAfromGA my grandpa had one, would be a good nostalgic flashback
@@AaronAfromGAI agree brother, I have a beautiful 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 210,000 miles and still going strong.
