Great video, Thank You. For that odd bolt you can swing by Harbor Freight and get a $5.99 "Security Bit Kit "always comes in handy.

its my understanding that Lowe’s deal to sell EGo products required the phasing out of Kobalt 80v products. They still sell the Kobalt 40v line and all of the Greenworks line. Greenworks and Kobalt are made by the same company and are virtually identical except for the slots on the casing. This battery swap idea works great if u have a dead battery. The router method on the casing works as well.

Yup, Greenworks makes at least some of Kobalt's products. I know for a fact that G.W. makes Kobalt's 24v. Brushless 12-inch bar chainsaw, for example. Both brands from the same Patent company.

I just bought a greenworks 80v 5.0 ah battery off amazon for $170. It was the same price as the Kobalt 2.5 ah. Took a minute to modify and that was all it took. Works flawlessly.

Greenworks makes the Kobalt and Menards Masterforce outdoor power equipment. I’ve heard that the greenworks and masterforce are interchangeable without modifications, but Kobalt wanted their stuff to be special, so they had Greenworks add an extra grove on the Kobalt case, but otherwise all 3 are identical.

I really like the Kobalt 80-volt tools, especially the blower. I suppose that I would also like the Master Force and Greenworks varieties. The power is outstanding! I have ordered some "knock off" batteries from E-bay and Amazon. It's nice to find the 80-volt tools and batteries at yard sales, battery drop offs and secondhand stores. Seen a few UA-cam videos that show routing the slots of the Kobalt to fit the Greenworks/Master Force (nice idea) I can use these all these creative ideas to provide affordable replacement battery options for many years. Saw a post online for blower trigger upgrade replacement, showed the how to order on E-Bay.... Also seen a few more folks replacing the cells and computer chip. (Not me) I do not mind swapping cases due to branding.

Got the 80v trimmer blower combo with 2ah battery for $230 CAD on clearance at Rona 2 years ago.
Weed trimmer went out on me so I will be buying the one Costco sells

I have the 6.0 ah version. I'm actually using it for my electric bike and it is flawless!!!

That's fine if your battery is dead. My batteries were still working and I was given additional ones by Greenworks for a recall. You can also save money by replacing the bad cell(s) in your original battery, which is much cheaper. What if you want a 3rd battery? You either have to go 3rd party or do the router mod.

Very true, I have had 3 originals that expired. Now I choose to buy 2 more new third-party batteries that claim a 5-year warranty.

They make Torx "security" bits that have the hole to accomodate the pin in the bolt. I picked up a set for cheap $.

Yes. Greenworks is the OEM for Kobalt. They just rebranded the name for Lows exclusive products. Though weirdly enough they don't seem to have opt'd for allowing their 60volt tools. Only 24/40/80volts for kobalt versions. And interesting enough another thing is Greenworks only has a 5ah 80volt. But they sell for their kobalt series up to 6ah for 80volts.
What is more interesting. Is their 60volt 8ah beats in more battery life then their 80volt 5-6ah system. So for runtime the 60volt line products will last longer with less voltage but seemly same power as their 80volt line. So they seem to be really focusing more on the 60volt line up for their own devices rather then giving that to Lows. Only giving lows the 80volt system that has almost similar power but less life even if you got the 6ah 80volt batteries.
Atleast i think their 60/80volt systems have the same casing design no matter what Ah you get. So i think even the higher ah's will fit in the same battery slots as their lower ah version cells. So that's good in a way you won't need to worry about sizing.

I remember back in the day….swapping the Lithium Ion battery guts out of cheap chinese knock off hand held electric screwdrivers to “repair” black and decker electric screwdrivers. I think they were available at Harbor Tools.

What's the warranty on the Greenworks? I'm guessing it may be compromised with the switch out

I suppose if you restored the green works battery core back inside the original case, you would be fine... You would need to use a T12 "security' bit instead of chipping off the center dimple.

That's funny that they put tamper-proof torx fasteners in the battery.

No need.......... Unless of course, you own Both Product lines. Then it would be nice to simply interchange Batteries when/in needed, without the hassle or repeatedly disassembling and crossing the internals.
