The monarch butterfly alludes to Charles being supreme monarch possibly over all the world as there is also a horse and rider within the flames holding a bow. He certainly is no longer the head over the Church of England, which is supposed to be Christian. Rev. 16:6 indicates the 3rd bowl judgment is giving them blood to drink because blood of saints and prophets have been shed.

Im an artist and all I can say is, nothing in art is haphazard. Artists used allegory in the past with hidden stories in painting, symbolism, to represent the meaning behind colours, flowers to represent other ideas and the symbolism goes on. This is a brave statement by the artist. We can only guess at its meaning and for my personal first impression is the red is alarming and the very very dark eyes in his face looking straight at the viewer is dark. Its an amazing painting, its most unnerving. It reminds me of Edvard Munchs: The Scream. Check it out!
