When i first heard this song i was blown away by how Sabaton-y it sounds. I felt really silly when i found out its not a Sabaton original but instead a cover. But when you think about it, a song written in Sabaton style, then Sabatonified by Sabaton, ofcourse it came out sounding Sabaton as hell.

There are at least five "Easter eggs" in the Sabaton cover; these are only the ones I've found, but please, Sabaton Army, add to the list if there's something I've missed.
⠀⠀1) The cover dropped on May 9th, known as Victory Day in several former USSR countries, where it's celebrated to commemorate the end of The Great Patriotic War (WW2).
⠀⠀2) The track starts off with a few notes from the Soviet national anthem. Foreshadowing....
⠀⠀3) Leading up to the first verse, we hear a snippet from the Swedish rock group Europe's hit song The Final Countdown. This could quite literally mean that this is the final countdown, which it was, but it could also be a simple tribute, just because that song's such a classic. In EU countries, May 9th is actually called Europe Day. Sadly, this is a rather unknown fact and it isn't celebrated like Victory Day is; it's just another holiday no one's ever heard of. So: Europe - The Final Countdown. Very fitting.
⠀⠀4) The lyrics say "we stand against the typhoon wave". The German offensive against Moscow was called Operation Typhoon.
⠀⠀5) Yes, you're correct: the guitar solo is the Soviet national anthem. Coincidentally, this is the part where someone started chopping onions the first time I heard the song. Completely broke me.

Another "Easter Egg" was the Soviet soldier throwing the German over him when he charged in personal combat, representing how close the battle was and the "overthrow" of the German initiative.

I rarely saw you reacting with such enthusiasm! Radio Tapok made reference to the battle of Borodino, which makes me think that the Germans invading Russia in 1941 made the same mistake as the French in 1812: they underestimated the people, the distances and the weather.

Defence of Moscow is such a banger and has a special place in my heart. I listened to it at 12 am when the song released on spotify I watched the music video when it premiered, I even ordered the limited edition vinyl version of the song, just to have it because I found it that awesome. (Actually the first and only piece of merch I ever bought from a band). The lyrics, the sound, the music video, even the fucking cover art is awesome. Really glad you enjoyed it.

I hadn't actually listened to Radio Tapoks version, I assumed it sounded so much Sabaton because Radio Tapok just overdid it. But no, it was Sabaton themselves who over-sabatonized it. :)
One overlooked cover they have done is "Långa bollar på Bengt" by "Svenne Rubins". It's definately nuts, a mixed bag of it. :D

If you do want to watch it, the live version is pretty much a must, to get some sort of idea of what is happening. But there are only a few cell phone live recordings..
Oleg Abramov (Radio Tapok) wrote this song and the Sabaton band translated it. As Oleg said: You have to live in such a way that Sabaton covers your songs. Well, something like that;)

Love this song and another great reaction. I know I've mentioned the song Stormtroopers a few times, but may I suggest Blood of Bannockburn too. There is a lyric version, a live version and a history episode (I checked first beforehand 😂😂)

They've both already been mentioned but my 2 favourite covers sabaton have done has to be 'Camouflage' and 'All Guns Blazing'. Obviously a very different vocal style compared to the original when it comes to the Judas Priest cover, but the strangest part has to be that they actually did a Sabaton history episode for it.

The best covers Sabaton have done imo are 'In The Army Now' and 'Twilight Of The Thunder God' which is an Amon Amarth song (Swedish Viking Death metal band). I think you will really enjoy both of them 👍. Just as much as you enjoy Mixed Nuts 😉

Oh the history videos is gonna take a while, since Sabaton is on tour at the moment... so we all have to wait impatiently

All Guns Blazing is an amazing cover, probably my favourite among the covers. Defence of Moscow doesn't feel like cover, it feels more like a proper Sabaton song
I personally think, and would highly recommend to hear, not sure if this is a cover but still an awesome song called Man Of War, and it is, well, a tribute to Manowar.
Gonna take a guess, Touchy likes the song 😂 this was the 2nd song of Sabaton I heard, 1st was Bismarck and I didn't think that could be beaten but then this song happened lol

This is a good song. However, RadioTapok and Sabbaton are slightly different songs. Sabbaton has a heavier and more epic version with the words "Stalin gave the order." RadioTapok have a more real "Motherland will never forget you." With the faces of real soldiers. Stalin comes and goes, but we will never forget them. "The Immortal Regiment" is proof of this.

I feel a bit self conscious listening to this song given modern events, but I’ll still enjoy it in private cause it is amazing.

@@TouchyReactions At the date of the Moscow counteroffensive, the Ukraine was entirely under the Germans' boot. And we have the photos and footage how they met "Hitler the Liberator", bringing him the welcome "bread and salt" (usual symbolic gift for the long-awaited welcomed visitor) and flowers.
Marshall Konev led the "Liberation of Kiev" operation. Decades later the "liberated ones" destroyed the monument, erected for his honour. And they wearing the swastikas, SS runes (two lightnings) and the "1488" logo...
I'm not into discussing the politics here. Just small sidenotes.

I've been watching along with Indy Neidell's World War Two Channel since some time in late 1940-early 41 and I watched the whole of Barbarossa and Typhoon play out in real time and Indy really really makes a point to drive home just how much of war is ordinary people suffering at the hands of dictators. If we're just looking at leaders here, we can't exactly pick out who was the "hero" between Hitler and Stalin. But we can very easily say that every Soviet who helped in any way to defend their homeland was a hero and their heroism deserves to be remembered and honored. And we can remember and honor the heroism of defending one's homeland from invasion by a megalomaniacal dictator while also supporting Ukraine in whatever ways we can.
I figure it might not go over well for Sabaton to play it at a concert in Poland or Finland, for example, but I'm still gonna enjoy it.

Речь немного о другом - о том, что немцы рассчитывали завершить "Тайфун" до наступления сильных холодов, но увязли и оказались совершенно неготовыми к таким морозам. А с востока, из Монголии, уже шли эшелоны с полушубками, теплыми рукавицами, валенками и т.д. Не говоря уже о наличии такой промышленности в СССР.
We talking on different matters. Hitler expected to fulfill the "Typhoon" ops before the winter. But his troops fell into tar-pit and stuck completely unprepared for such harsh weather.
And Soviet sewing industry could produce the fur-coats, warm gloves, boots etc in increasing numbers. Small Mongolia send us the trains with already made winter clothing, canned food, raw meat and so on. (unlike the Western lend-lease, the Mongols did not put the price tag on the goods they supplied, and then almost to the Union dissolution we helped them back as much as we could, as a sign of our gratitude. For example, every non-Soviet cosmonaut's flight was paid by his country. But Mongolian cosmonaut Gurragzha's flight was entirely paid by the USSR)

Russians see it as continuation of great patriotic war from what I heard. I saw videos of Ukrainian azov bases full of N@z1 symbols and literature, some don't even hide it. It's sad what's going on now, but It looks like Russia had no choice. Not all in Ukraine are N@z1s ,but those who are were dictating others how to live and what language to speak. When Zelenskiy came to the front lines and ordered nationalists to remove heavy weapons and deescalate fighting, he was told to f@ck @ff. And since then he was doing what they told him. He closed all opposition Media and political parties during his term.

I'm not going to go on a rant or anything, but I'll just say the following. Hearing this song and knowing what Russia endured at the hands of the Nazis during World War II seeing what's been happening in Ukraine recently is all the more frustrating. The justification, the conduct of the Russian forces, the comments by the Russian government.. all of it.

In 2022 law was passed allowing land purchase by foreign parties. Now they own half , ukranian grain is actually corporate grain. They drop cheap gtain in Eastern Eaurope countries like Poland to bankrupt farmers- then corporations can buy up that land on the cheap aswell. War in ukraine and property takeover from people is one diabolical business plan. 😢
