- Alina & Brittnee are currently taking over the volcano newscast, as Valur is enjoying his well-deserved summer holiday. The volcano has undergone a revival and is back to being a fire geyser-for now. Lava spitting from the crater is now reaching about 20 metres high, versus around 200 meters back in May. Pollution from the volcano has led to hazy skies and a mostly sunless summer for the south of Iceland.
Luckily the impressive defence walls, built to protect Suðurstrandarvegur and some fibre-optic cables, are still withstanding the force-though it is just a matter of time before defeat by mother nature.
And if you're missing Valur and Pollý, this month we are offering walking tours of Reykjavík guided by the two of them and Bjartmar Alexandersson, co-presenter of The Icelandic Perspective. If you want to book a tour and meet the crew, click the link below:

Impressive how the Grapevine needs three people to replace Valur now he's off on his well-deserved holiday.
Naturally nothing can replace Polly.
Welcome to the team Britney and Alina - looking forward to your videos. Don't worry, we're all lovely here on UA-cam!
Enjoy your manner of talking to each other and us.
You ladies did an amazing job! I’m slightly partial being that Brittnee is my daughter😉 I love that it erupted just as you finished. I can’t wait to see it in person. 2 weeks remaining!
Lovely young woman! Congrats, eh? Why men can’t call them 'women' not 'girls', I’ll never know.❤️🇨🇦❤️
I would dare to say the volcano also approved of these two wonderul women taking Valur's place while he embarks on a well-deserved vacation, by giving its lavathumbs up ! :-)
@ Immaturity? How can you tell they are immature? They are young people learning, experiencing, enjoying life, as everybody has done while growing up, didn't you?
@@mokabandida5454 From their conversation.
That's what she said
That might be the happiest looking dog I've ever seen.
Happiness looks like Pollý.
Well done Britney and Elena. You did really well. Your pronunciation of Icelandic names is excellent. Enjoy your time off Valur.
The girls are lovely presenters and the channel is in good hands.
My "DON'T WALK ON THE LAVA"-Shirt has reached me today.
So I am well prepared for the visit of the volcano. ;o)
same :D
Your comment worked: I ordered mine just now !
Thank you all for sharing your enthusiasm and appreciation for your work.
The girls look like sisters. They are very smart, great narrators and interface so well.
Sisters OR twins.
Here from South Africa 🇿🇦 keep up the good work, and wishing the interns a successful and fulfilling journey ahead 😄
wow, the direct comparison to the beginning of the eruption is quite astonishing
Have a good vacation. Polly too.
Ladies did a great job of keeping the conversation going.
it is wonderful to hear them try to pronounce the islandic names.
i like that they can have the casual conversation about the volcano, it is the perfect slow TV content
To the young ladies covering for Valur, great job! And you nailed all of the Icelandic place names too! It's always nice to see how many people speak fluent English around the world, while here in America, so many people would not even think to be bothered to learn another language. 😐😔
In America, they can barely read and write at all.
@@Circlewisewoman01 that's probably true for some people, although in my experience, it's more that people don't take the time to listen to others and read what they've written. But there's a lot of us that are well read and some of us even speak a second language reasonably well. I'm not quite ready to tackle Icelandic yet, however! 😄
@@nancybarnes7109 as an American, I’m learning Spanish, Polish, and the pronunciation of Icelandic.

@@dongouger572 I'm sorry, I didn't understand your reply.
I would love to see the volcano in person to get my head around the scale. We were in Alaska a few years ago, and watched a shard of ice fall off a glacier into the ocean. After some seconds when the sound reached us it sounded like someone dropped a box car off a skyscraper! I then had a real appreciation of the scale of what I was seeing.
Nice job by the ladies and Art Bicnick on camera.
Greetings from Canada, ladies! I look forward to your video broadcasts. First one is very well done, sound like pros.
Great job, things are in safe hands.
Ahhh Iceland the land of dreams, and angels it seems. 😉 These ladies will do a great job in Valurs absence, and I love their bubbly presentation 🤗. I would also like it if the Grapevine would occasionally give us updates on just how deep the lava fields in each valley has become.
I really enjoyed the fresh perspectives in this episode! Also showing the walking trail up, showing the volcano from the same area with the archival footage were great inclusions. The audio quality was very good, especially given the wind.
Favorite part at the end when the girls were talking about how they weren’t sure how to do the “outro“ while watching the eruption, and it kinda becomes the outro. Gold!
Please can we have more presenting by Britney and Elena because they are doing a really good job!
The walking tour sounds wonderful.
Nice newscast by the two interns. Really good job.
Excellent! The new hosts were perfect. Thanks for entrusting them to maintain the continuity. Good luck there.
So happy for young women living their dream - Britanny and Anina/Alina? - please post their names below the video. Thank you. Looking forward to your broadcasts
She said Alina.
Anika.
@@WvhKerkhof Alina.
Thanks for providing the scale, I mentioned this on the recent AMA and this was exactly what I was looking for. Wonderful work everyone.
I see Art likes to use the speed up function! 🤣🤣
It's so foggy!
By the way, I think it's great that you are willing to use your vacation time to meet people. I wish I could travel to Iceland, but can't right now. But how awesome that you are willing to give of your time!
Great job girls! Good information. 👍🏻 thumbs up from Wisconsin!
You girls are doing so well! Cute as can be! Personal experience is quality! Love, peace and awareness to you and yours, precious spirits!
The lava filling Geldinggadalir is really amazing and pretty frightening to see. Allowing you ladies to walk along the side we have all been able to see this haunting beauty. Thank you for your reporting and giving us a good look at this area. Wow|!!
What a pleasure to view this and hear all about their volcano experiences!
Well done! Wonderful intern experiences await you both!! Love the giggles and the smooth way they go back and forth sharing stories. Please show more before and after footage of the valleys there. We all miss Northey and Southey so much. It was so suddenly exciting back in March. I wish Valur and Polly a fantastic holiday.....only wishing that I could visit Iceland in July to go on a tour. Hopefully next year.
Enjoy your holiday - you deserve a good break, thank you once again for all your hard work
The girls are very good reporters!!
great job both love your energy dont worry about the outro timed perfectly with the eruption (nice one again Art)look forward to your next reports :)
Great presentation ladies.
good job girls! I'm also from America, what a great opportunity you have to work there for the summer! And to get to see the volcano, wow! It's amazing how much it has changed, almost mind-boggling. It's too bad you can get on the other side to see all the action though.
Maybe for the next volcano Newscast. ;o)
Here in Hawaii we call Volcanic smog "Vog" and I live on the slope of Mauna Loa where we get "Vog" from Kilauea when it is erupting
I really appreciate that you have given these two young ladies an internship. I wish more companies would give the younger generation the opportunity to learn on the job. I have a young daughter the same age and it is extremely rare to find a company that is willing to take a recent university graduate that has little work experience. So many companies today fail to provide on the job training and expect everyone to have 5 to 10 years experience just to do entry level positions. This attitude has failed the younger generations. Kudos to you for providing these young ladies with an excellent opportunity.
You girls did great first time out! Just be yourselves, that’s what we love so much about Valur!
Loved seing these two young persons mostly represent this episode. Brings back memories from when I spent time in Iceland as a youth. Lovely stuff. Hvergi ertu verri Valur en gaman engu að síður 🖐
Well done girls! Informative and nicely presented x
At 10:10 it looks like the girls are on the moon. Stunning landscape. Nicely done.
Thank you, Valur. Thank you very much.
I just want to say, your doing an excellent job ladies!!! Great job!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
The perfect outro…
You gals are doing a great job. It is nice to have two people actually bouncing comments and adding information for each other. Gives a nice well-rounded informative broadcast. Both of you keep yourself safe and enjoy your adventures traveling around the world!
Best wishes from Texas.!
🇺🇲
It's always good to have a change of faces and styles of presenting. Keeps it fresh, and opportunities for others to hone their skills. Last year, there was Poppy Askham taking Valur's city reporting. This year, it's good we get to see 3 new faces on this channel and Art's superb camera work.
I remember Poppy changed the intro music when she 'took over'! And when we visited in May, we went into Reykjavik and had our first (amazing!) cinnamon bun from Brauð & Co, sitting in the square where she met Valur for a newscast! 😋
Funny how things can change so quickly. Since this was published, the volcano is going absolutely nuts!
Great Job Ladies!
that dog will steal the show!
Viewing from Montana. Good job reporting.
So interesting that Pink Jacket Girl (Brittnee?) has started saying "Jao" after such a short stay in Iceland. I catch myself trying to incorporate words and short sentences from the local language if I am on longer vacations abroad.
Part of the joy of travelling!
I think the girls did an amazing job for their first time out. The comparison back to the very beginning was astounding. We forget so quickly just how deep the valley was and thus how much lava there really is!! Also everyone forgets about the first Volcano named Bob. The one that Valur was looking at back in March. Bob is now forever buried under all that lava!!
Great job ladies!! Keep up the good work and keep us informed.
Welcome intern presenters! I'm sure you will do a great job.
Thanks for the update. Don't panic, your outros are fine 😄
Always nice to see Polly!!!
Thank you ladies , I loved your dialogue of the volcano..well said...and the photography is beautiful!
Tell us how the 2 young ladies got internships in Iceland?? What a great summer gig! We hiked trail A in mid May and it was truly the trip of a lifetime.
thanks for the update and enjoy your vacation valur. you deserved it. art also deserves vacation
Well done girls, that was great!
clouds: if they were men reporting would you say: "Well done boys, that was great!"
@@roxannegordon6162 probably, I am an old lady...and they did do a great job, why tarnish the compliment for them?
Great coverage ladies! The walking tours sound amazing, especially if nothing else to walk with Polly!
I just ordered the “Don’t walk on the lava” shirt. Can’t wait to wear it!
I would love to order one, where did you get it?
@@roseannecarratkinson4271 The RVK website. One of the other videos has a link to it; I think the one before this?
Hi Roseanne - you can get one here: shop.grapevine.is/products/dont-walk-on-the-lava-t-shirt-for-local-pickup
Nice, *nice* people in Iceland. So friendly and helpful. And very intelligent.
Since there is a German in the video I have the urge to enter the comments section. Also Hallo aus Deutschland an euch two girls, keep up the good work and stay safe! :)
Good job ladies. Thank you very much!
Great job for your first cast! Thanks!
You girls are doing an awesome job. Thank you👍❤🙏🙏🙏
Good job ladies
Thanks for those shots, it was really hard to tell how visible the eruption is from a distance from the web cams lately.
Valur has left his newscast in capable hands.
Good job girls! Very fun to watch.
thank you lady's for the showing the volcance
Hi Britney and Elena good job thank you and happy holiday Valur and Polly
Wow, what an awesome Finnish. Thank you ladies for a really good presentation.
Thanks ladies
Great job! You should be covering the volcano permanently.
May Valur have a looooong and nice holidays😉! Greetings from🇵🇹!
Well Done girls!!! 👏👏👏 Well Done girls... you're doing a great job of explaining what's going on over there in lavaland. Thank you!!!! 💕💞💓xxx
Good job guys, cheers from Ireland
Brava, nice job, ladies, how lucky you are! As long as you are not going to the volcano, you need an intern dog to fill in for Pollý!
Girls, you did a great job. Thank you.
looking forward to more from these girls.. they work great together 😀👍
Great job ladies, very informative and fun
Thank you girls very professional and you got your wish at the end xxx
Good job, ladies. We look forward to more reports from the volcano. Stay safe and have fun.
Wow! Awaesome!
Very well done takeover! Much better presenting than I could ever do. Jealous of you guys getting to stay in Iceland right now and see this spectacle.
Great job, ladies. You timed that to be spot on. From a very jealous guy in the UK. Enjoy your last month or so.
Mother Nature will do her own thing. Good on you girl👍👍👍👍😍😍😍😍
Welcome girls. I am sure you will be brilliant and have lots of fun. Love this video. I think Valurs job is under threat 🤣🤣 Have a great holiday Valur 🏝 Love from England 🇬🇧
I enjoy your videos so much, have a great vacation and best of luck and good wishes to the girls. Happy subscriber and follow you closely from Washington State in the USA. God bless and keep safe!
GLAD TO SEE YOU ARE STAYING WELL
No Valur nor Polly for four whole weeks! What are we to do without you both? Have a great summer break, warm up and thaw out somewhere beautiful and warm. I'm sure your interns will hold down the fort without worry. Have a great time, Kris.🇦🇺
I’ve heard it called “vog” in Hawaii. Shorter than volcano fog, anyway.
Unfortunately it is Volcanic smOG. 😒 I'm sure we would all prefer it WAS fog.
@@theredrover3217 Yer, when you 6-7000 ton of S02 is released every day the amount of smOG it can generate can be a real problem.
Great reporting girls, stay safe- greetings from NYC!! 😄🤗💚🌷💜
Dora: "great reporting ladies, stay safe" is the appropriate wording. Don't belittle them into being children.
@@roxannegordon6162 Are you kidding me?? Who you telling that they're being belittled?! You have alot of nerve! Get a life!
Nice "tourist joint venture"! Greetings from Germany! 😎
Great job 👏🏼
Brilliant Finish Art! Ladies, take a cue from Valur... just be yourselves. Great video.
Great job ladies.
Great job Art. Valur is on vacation (deserved), leaving the duties in obviously very capable hands. Good job, ladies, (dein Englisch ist außergewöhnlich gut)... The other is American ( did I understand that correctly ? ). Very good reporting, both of you. Now, did Valur provide you each with a "Do Not Walk on the Lava" T-shirt ? (rhetorical)... --- Doug (Florida, USA)
.... and I believe Mom is enroute ... 2 weeks ?
(Behave !!!). (grin). All the best, both of you...... Be safe.
