&ALICENT STARTED IT WHEN SHE WENT BEHIND RHAENYRA's (HER BFF's) BACK AND GOT WITH HER FATHER right after Rhaenyra's mother died. Her fake self righteousness is nauseating. What are you talkin about that you don't think Alicent is at fault?? Are you blinddd. ALSO -- Bastards can be legitimized (as many do in the GoT and Fire and Blood too) House Baratheon is built on a bastard's shoulders fyi. And legitimized bastards can claim the throne. AND REMEMBER WHEN THE NORTH NAMED JON SNOW THEIR KING?? They knew he was a bastard, but they still rebelled against those bullshit norms and made a new norm. And I didn't see anyone being upset about Jon being King of the North. PS-- Daemon's gonna protect Jace, Luce, Joffrey. ALSO Greens only have 3 dragons.

I'm sure people noticed it, but many people seem to *choose* to ignore the nuances in this show. Did you see some of the Greens vs. Blacks stuff? Everyone is missing the point. Whether it’s subtle or obvious is besides the point. I’m taking aim at those who feel the need to point out that something is obvious and that people shouldn’t miss it. It’s another way of saying ‘ooh, look what I noticed and you didn’t.’ It reeks of insecurity and is just a pathetic attempt to humble brag by putting others down.

Rhaenyra's kids are as Targaryen as Alicent's kids. Alicent has 0% Valyrian DNA as did Harwin Strong. There is no reason why Rhaenyra's kids would struggle to control dragons but Alicent's wouldn't. I do think Laenor loved the kids the whole time, similar to being a step dad. The difference is that step dads are (in theory) wholly committed to their partners and their children. Laenor, imo, wasn’t wholly committed because he had the whole galavanting with Qarl thing going on and although he absolutely deserves to be with Qarl as per his arrangement with Rhaenyra, he perhaps ought to have worked on balancing his time between his lover and his wife and (step, sort of-) children. I think that’s what he meant when he was talking about not loving his children enough. He loved them but didn’t give them as much attention as he thinks he could, which is true.

And to add to the discussion, dragons are not property. The Targaryen have them because they are the only ones that can ride them. That's why is a big issue, at least in the book, that Laena and Laenor have dragons. So, Vhagar was kinda like a companion to Laena and once she died, Vhagar was "free" to choose another one. Rick is right about the handling of Alicent. She is an extension of the king and marital issues between the king and queen in this time could potentially mean collapse. Also Viserys just isn't that guy. Others would probably want to kill her off but at this point in the story Alicent has a ton of influence. In fact the greens vs the blacks started because it split the court with the greens aka the queen's party and the blacks aka the princess's party. Even in Eastern Asian royal customs they couldn't just get rid of the queens or the queen mothers without there being some extremely complicated process. Also at this point while Rhaenyra is the heir, Viserys is still alive so Alicent's position is unseemly but she's still considered more senior at the moment. Especially since she's also the mother of four of the King's children, two of them being healthy sons. Finally, Viserys just isn't in a position health-wise to severely punish Alicent. They may not be in love but he trusts her and he just reinstated her father as hand which would please House Hightower. Basically, it's not worth the political headache to do something severe about her.

They shot all this on location at the island of Saint Michael's Mount. When films shoot complex sequences in true night, visibility of the subjects is achieved with complex and expensive lighting, often utilizing huge rigs and cranes. There's a good shot of the house at night from Nope going round for reference. For me, to do a night set up at that location was probably over the time/resources they had.

Who, because of her father, was forced to marry the king, but... she looked after him, washed him, slept with him (when he had ulcers all over his body, no arms and soon no eye), took care of him. This episode was by far the best. The only problem was the lighting but other than that everything else was great. Me personally I feel Viserys made a lot of wrong choices that could've prevent many things. One is allowing Otto to manipulate situations to cause problems between Daemon and him. Vserys knew what Otto was yet chose to ignore. Second he could've waited until Laena was age then married if possible. Instead he chose Alicent, giving him more power to conspire. Third I feel if he allowed Daemon and Rhaenyra to marry 10 years ago they could've had legitimate kids which wouldn't have been questioned. GRRM is a genuis for having the characters reject these solutions that would've prevent the chaos to come. Alicent is a victim of her father but she is an adult and Queen and continues to allow her father to make the decisions which is why I'm not on her side. Her decisions are becoming more unstable and she is unraveling day after day.

I definitely agree with Eric that from Alicent’s pov it would be maddening to know something that could put her own family in power, know everyone else knows it too, but that no one will act on it because of Viserys and Rhaenyra’s word. But at the same time, it also just adds to Rhaenyra being right about Alicent that her main issue is resentment and jealousy that Alicent plays by their society’s rules and was put in a situation she didn’t want to be in, sacrificing her own wishes, while Rhaenyra gets the privilege to do what she wants with no real consequences to her position, again because of her and Viserys’s word. It’s like Alicent is partially a symbol for self-righteous people, religious or otherwise, who are mad at the way their life turned out even though they “did everything right” and that other people don’t live like them.

In one episode of the behind the scenes, the creators said that in this world there are only 3 sources of light: the moon, the sun and fire. So I guess that it was easier to shoot the beach scenes at day and then color grade them, than shooting them at night, as there would be no source of light. Any light would feel artificial and therefore break the rule? That's what I think at least.

You guys are kind of misinterpreting the moment.
It's not quite treason what Alicent did when she took Viserys knife.
Alicents reaction is easily dismissed as a mother's anger over the disfigurement of her child. And she clearly made it plain that she wanted the eye of Lucerys Velaryon in return so she's not going to be accused of murder at all because no lord in that room will see it that way.
They will only see an angry mother trying to take the eye of the child that took her child's eye and for that it is not treason what she did here.
What IS treason and by far the most severe crime committed is Aemond accusing Rhaenyras children of being bastards.
What is equally considered treason and what kind of Trumps the accusation is the fact that her kids actually are bastards. So their very existence is proof of Rhaenyras own treason.
But anyways no. It's not exactly treason what Alicent did in that moment. Sure as shit tailed the line about as close as you can. But not quite crossed it.

    • @CameronJamesPhillips
      @CameronJamesPhillips 2 роки тому +1

@Vegvisir92 tecnically the King never ordered her to do shit. He ordered her Kings guard to stand down and he did, then she took the knife to claim Lucerys eye herself which is easily dismissed as a woman consumed by a mother's anger over the disfigurement of her son. A pretty reasonable thing to get pretty angry over.
Not exactly treason. Not exactly disobeying the King.
What IS treason and by far the most serious crime that night is the allegation that Rhaenyra's children are bastards. Alicent would be in way worse shit if Aemond outed her not just to the King but if he outed her in front of all the lords as the one who uttered the treasonous slander, she'd be fucked. One thing to say treason in private, another to be caught out in the open.
This is why Aemond lies and says Aegon said it instead.
Then Viserys gives an order to the entire room, but subtextually specifically to Alicent that if anyone "speaks" of this treason again that they would have their tongues removed.
Which is Viserys laying down the law in front of the lords to accept Rhaenyra's children as trueborn. Viserys knows a civil war is coming as his life is nearing its end, you can hear the desperation in his voice as he pleads with his family to get along as the infighting is undoubtedly leading them to war when he dies.
But bottom line. No. What Alicent did is technically not treason

There are members of House Targaryen that are weak or craven, and then there are those like Aegon The Conqueror, Visenya, Daemon, Rhaenyra, and Daenerys. I knew from the moment he took one step in Vhagar’s direction (let alone dare to approach her and even claim her) and saw him fly without being fastened to the saddle while the same theme that played when Daenerys proved herself in her story played in the background that he was a true Targaryen.

Ofcourse the King knew but he's turning a blind eye mainly because of what he screamed during the confrontation. He said "We are family!" which I translated as it doesn't matter if they were bastards because they are sons of Rhy. He was even exhilarated when Rhy proposes to combine their families through marriage. What he's really blind to is the fact that Alicent sees only what his father fed to her from the beginning so she doesn't see what he'd always wanted (for them to be a family). Rhy actually tried mending it with Alicent but she refuses because bitterness is just too deep in her already. She envies what Rhy is capable of getting away with while she upholds the righteousness that limits her to be her true-self.

Rhaenyra could have chosen Harwin, Lannister, anybody; but she abruptly cut the organised tour in half, and went to brothels with his brother and slept with Cole. That's what upset Alicent.
