I have a 2000 Honda Civic that was doing exactly what you were describing. I went out and located the PGM FI relay. I then tried to start the car, and it did not start. We tapped the relay, and she fired right up. Normally I would have to wait 20 minutes. Went to the parts store and purchased one, installed it and the car runs great now. Thank you for this video. You saved me so much time and effort. Thank you for posting the video.
Glad this video is still up. Been having the crank/no-start issue on my '04 Pilot for a while. Intermittent but happening more frequently. Finally decided to take it in to the dealer. A month-long wait to get in. Searched and found this video. Thought, what the heck, why not try it out. Got the part, installed it, haven't had it happen again. Cancelled the dealer visit the day before. Probably saved me 400 bucks.

Thanks for the info!!! Just had a crank no start symptom on my 99' civic lx after a cold 5 degree night. I took this main relay out, set it inside to see if letting it warm up would do anything. Plugged it back up after it warmed up a bit and she fired right up! time to get a new relay.
Hey man I have a 2000 civic DX that cranks no start happened during the colder months around late February. Out of nowhere just wouldn’t start and P & D would be lit on the dash. I was thinking it may be the main relay but it was too cold and never got to it and ended up taking it to my mechanic. Never mentioned the main relay assuming he’s probably checked and haven’t asked. But he’s telling me I need a new engine and distributor ? Any thoughts on this thinking bout having him put everything back together the way it was and having a chat with him.
Wow I love the way how you beautifully explained and educated us about the PGM-Fi main relay you're really amazing. We highly respect and appreciate you sir
This was explained so well. My 99 civic occasionally won't start, but cranks over well. Then it might be weeks before it happens again. I was thinking that maybe the igniter was bad.
Bad igniters usually stop working when they get hot. When they cool down again they will usually work for awhile until they get hot again. If your car won't start when the engine is cold, it may not be the igniter. My '98 Civic had a recall on its igniter around 2003.
Bravo my good man. I do believe you just solved my issue on my 98 Honda CRV. Took off from work and drove a block or so and Blaahhh, no power and 5-10 MPH. Misfire and just suddenly ran horrible. Found the insulation on distributor gone where wires come out of distributor and replaced distributor, cap and rotor and still no run.Spark to cylinders and fuel to filter but didnt check fuel injectors. Great video dude.
What I heard on what the immobilizer actually does is kill the power on the wire going to the fuel pump itself. That's why the engine turns over without starting. If so that would either be before of after the relay. Mine still works, but losing the key, and or a problem with the immobilizer is a big problem.
WELL ... My 2002 Honda Odyssey would DIE as I was driving and then a few minutes later i was able to start it up and drive . I took it to Honda in hopes to get it fixed = they call a day later and said it was working perfectly and to pick it up ??? I looked up the problem and found it was the MAIN RELAY - I told Honda to replace it ( they laughed and said a UA-cam video can't fix a car) ...They charged me $480 dollars to install that part ! Autozone sells that exact same part for $80 dollars and it just plugs in under the dash board !!!! I now have 500 miles on it on city streets and heavy stop n go traffic on the expressways and ITS WORKING

Hi! Just had a question, my cars main relay is fine and works normally, however my car sometimes decides to not start and continues to blow the 15a EFI/EM fuse and does this for about 3-7 fuses before the car decides to start again, not sure if it’s a problem with a short in the wiring or if it’s the main relay, fuse doesn’t blow when the main relay is unplugged
My 1987 Honda SI is having difficult crank / no starts with a cold and warm engine. And yesterday my PGM FI light came on, for the second time in a month. My mechanic says it’s the starter. My research indicates a possible bad ETC sensor, on maybe a main relay- which brought me here. Any thoughts?
I tried looking at my main relay to diagnose a crank no start condition. I left the main relay housing bolted into the dash because it was so high and hard to get to (98 accord). I figured to just pry the inner circuit board out of the housing, using a screwdriver in the little indents. But as soon as I pulled the circuit board out it SPARKED and left a little burn. I realized I left the keys in the ignition which was a bad move. The way I was pulling the circuit board out, the gold contacts were sorta loosening from the wire connector… Basically, im expecting my main relays fried but im wondering if my ECM could have been shorted… because I noticed my OBD2 Port wont communicate with a scanner.
Iam having issues with my 2000 Honda Civic. I installed new fuel filter, fuel pump. Engine cranks but won’t start. I took the relay apart and on bottom of it the left side one of the shiny silver things was like a bronze copper color? Any help would help a lot. Thanks oh btw every couple hours the car would start but would have a hard time staying at idle and if I give it gas it would like sputter and die eventually.
Have taken my '08 Honda Civic to three mechanics and no luck; cranks but no start. After I crank it a number of times and turns on, the exhaust smell is very strong and pungent. Not sure what this could be. I adjusted the valves as one mechanic recommended. Any tips? Thanks.
I have a 2007 accord that has a electrical issue, several meter lights will come on and the Navi will lose its code sometimes radio will also. The car has not stalled on me yet I have replaced several parts and a couple relays. Any idea what I should try next?
If you are referring to the Hazard/Turn Signal circuit, they typically do not have a separate replaceable flasher relay. Those models are normally MICU (Multiplex Integrated Control Unit) controlled circuits, which work from input signals from the combination switch/turn signal switch or hazard button/switch. MICU is a smart module inside the under DASH driver's fuse box. There is a relay circuit board inside the under HOOD fuse box that is part of the taillight circuit but those are not normally serviceable without replacing the entire fuse box. Most common issue is a Turn Signal Switch (Combination Switch) failure but MICU failures and wiring issues can also happen. A MICU failure usually means the entire under dash fuse box needs to be replaced. Thanks for the comment!
03 Acura TL crank no start, has new fuel pump and if I spray starting fluid in the intake it will start up and I can turn it off and start it again but hour later it won’t start again...does that sound like relay issue???
Hello. Did you ever find out your issue? I have a 2004 Honda Pilot with a new fuel pump but still a crank no start. It starts but an hour later it won’t start.
@big dog50001 automotive my car will backfire after driving for a while then won’t start for thirty minutes and then I’ll run. Could this be the cause? Thanks
Possible, but unfortunately quite a few things could cause that. I would verify that the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is reporting the correct temperature to engine computer (need a code reader or scan tool for that).
Hey I have a 99 civic and my injectors are getting no power ,fuel pump is sending fuel to the fuel rail ,cranks has spark ,starts on starting fluid ,I already checked/switched pgm-fi still nothing car was running fine till it didn’t want to start you do have any idea ?what could be the issue thanks in advance
Nice video! How did you get the bolt off? I been trying with a 10mm wrnch with no luck it wants to strip it away..although I must say mine is underneath my hood latch on the floor so very hard to get to as the bolt is high up there..so I gotten it off changed relay unfortunately still hasn't fixed my issue. I do have an appointment tomorrow not looking forward to pay 80$ on a tow for under a mile away any other advice would be greatly appreciated..
I have a 2000 accord dx. My fuel pump relay doesn't have any small relay s on the inside of it. So is it the wrong one for the car. Problem is a no start
What if i can bang my steering wheel and then the thing will start, usually just when the cab of the car is hot, doesnt happen in the winter as much. Any idea what part around the key switch that could cause that?
Sir, you are the only one I know who can help me out with this car problem. The car is a range rover 1998 p38 4.6HSE and v8. Many people were invited to start the car even from a far State but the couldn't. The challenge is a crank no start, no spark,no injector pulse but good communication with a scan tool. I have added fuel to the intake manifold and crank the engine no change at all. It is not starting. In addition, I checked for spark, but there is no spark as well. Hence, I have just checked for injector pulse but there's no injector pulse either. There is also no ignition current to the injector circuit with key ON and engine off. All the fuses and relays are good. I also checked the injector circuit for continuity if the wire is shorted but it was ok. Scan tool communicated and showed only p1843 and p1842 code. There was no RPM during cranking. What I noticed today when I compared the ignition, earth and DC with the same car that was starting and driving to the car that was not starting, what I saw made me to flabbergasted. Where the was ignition for example in the working car there was DC in the car that was not starting. Also a particular relay circuit for example RL-2 one of the pin of the connector when my test light was on battery ground and relay removed, the pump buzzed and testlight dim but when I tried that same location with test light and same pin the test light was dim and ABS relay was actuated no buzz from pump. It is like that in many places in the fuse box and PCM circuit. Please what's the cause of the problem and what do I need to do to fix the problem?
P1842 and P1843 trouble codes are CAN (Controller Area Network) issues, or at least that is what engine computer is reporting and it may be a symptom of not starting and not the cause. Cranking and no spark and no fuel likely indicates the engine computer does not see all input signals it needs in order to provide fuel and spark. Wiring issues, power and ground issues, bad sensors (cam and crank especially) or bad computer modules/engine computer can all cause crank no start. FYI, if this vehicle did start and still had those codes present it would likely be in limp mode (stay in low gear) when driving.
I have a 97 Honda Accord 4 cyl. it turns over but wont start! The gas guage shows it has less then a 1/4, regardless if key is in or not! not sure what that means? I put two more galeons in to test, it still wont start. what should I do first? Thanks Paul
My main pgm fi relay yellow with black. Line melted n white with green line melted at the same time when turn to acc then if u just turn the key to start acg s 15 amp fuse pop.. changed new wire harness new relay still melting ??
I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX 3.0. The car starts, but all the gauges except for the green key do not work. The dash lights up when you start the car, then fades out. No wipers, no turn signals, no power windows, no AC compressor. Car gear shift will not leave Park. All fuses inside and out test okay with meter.
Could the PGM-FI relay cause any transmission issues? The program I use is suggesting I check the relay. It just seems odd to me it wants me to check that. No fuel issues on the Honda I'm working on.

Nice Info , i geus i have the same problem with my Honda Deauville NT 700. tumbs up'.
The way I was pulling the circuit board out, the gold contacts were sorta loosening from the wire connector…
Basically, im expecting my main relays fried but im wondering if my ECM could have been shorted… because I noticed my OBD2 Port wont communicate with a scanner.
Thank you, very useful information
👍
Thank you , very good explanation , very clear
I appreciate the comment, thanks!
Will a blown main relay wipe out the ecu 15a fuse? The set up is an obd0 b16a.
Unfortunately is sounds like it needs some troubleshooting done, anything I tell you would just be a guess.
You just saved my ass. You have no idea...
Afternoon, My Name is Craig from South Africa, How to Bypass The PGM Relay on a 2012 Honda Accord 2.4l
Have taken my '08 Honda Civic to three mechanics and no luck; cranks but no start. After I crank it a number of times and turns on, the exhaust smell is very strong and pungent. Not sure what this could be. I adjusted the valves as one mechanic recommended. Any tips? Thanks.
Would It cut off pump and injectors at the same time
Amazon says PGM-FI Main Relay 39400-S10-003 is not compatible with 2000 Civic EX (5 speed).
Does mine has one?
My 2006 GMC envoy. Will start when it's cooler outside but when it's hot outside or if been driven and warmed up the car will crank but not start
I replaced it n it still doesn’t turn my fuel pump on but when I take it out and test it it works please help
Well done!
Very helpful tips 👌
Thanks 👍!
I have a 2007 accord that has a electrical issue, several meter lights will come on and the Navi will lose its code sometimes radio will also. The car has not stalled on me yet I have replaced several parts and a couple relays. Any idea what I should try next?
Great video bro
love your videos how to remove flasher on 2012 honda crv ex
Thank you
No problem 👍!
Use vise grips. And some pb blaster. Works like a charm
I have a 2000 accord dx. My fuel pump relay doesn't have any small relay s on the inside of it. So is it the wrong one for the car. Problem is a no start
Well done.
Thanks 👍!
Hello mate I'm just asking if there's a starter cut relay on automatic transmission on 1996 honda civic? Thank you🙏
Good video and informative
Thanks!
Thank you so much
Could the PGM-FI relay cause any transmission issues? The program I use is suggesting I check the relay. It just seems odd to me it wants me to check that. No fuel issues on the Honda I'm working on.
Verified that having 1993 Honda Accord tapping on the main relay in the video under the steering column does temp fix the issue.
Will it make a tapping noise if it's gone bad?
