    I graduated high school in 93. I loved working on these old Hondas. It's been a long time since I was able to even get an igniter to repair a Honda distributor. Now, they generally don't exist anymore.

    same engine as my 95 Civic coupe. :) My local dealership my car is older than the techs. I bought a spare PCM just in case I need one in the future.

    There's some ceramic daughter boards inside, the solder joints on those were cracked on mine, resoldering those fixed it. YMMV...

      There were 2 separate issues ECM wasn't grounding the main relay to run the fuel pump and no spark. I started diagnosing the fuel system first because usually when you have no spark 9/10 times it's the distributor either the coil or the ignitor inside. Plus there were 2 new distributor on the passenger seat I could swap out cuz on the connector it was getting supplied power and ground. Too bad customer ended up returning them while it sat on our lot for 2 months and I didn't know that happened. Once I was able to get fuel then it was just figuring out spark. When you have multiple issues pick one issue and go with it sometimes it may be the same issue. And diagnosing one issue at a time helps so you're not confusing yourself trying to diagnose 2 things at a time.

    During the long crank, it sounded like one cylinder had a low compression. 🤔

    • @theoffroadingmechanic
      @theoffroadingmechanic  8 днів тому +3

      Yea that happens when it starts flooding with fuel and it washes the cylinder wall. Happens on the older Honda's when the distributor intermittently fails and it comes in for a no start. Sometimes you gotta remove the plugs and squirt in some oil when that happens but once it able to fire it up you just gotta give it the beans and clear it up and its fine. Just don't be fooled sometimes when you bring it into a shop and they check compression and it has low compression and tell you it needs an engine all it is is from it flooding and fuel washes the cylinders and loses compression.

      @theoffroadingmechanic  8 днів тому +1

      Not sure if it is a common problem but I have done a few pcm on the older Honda 90's and early 2000
