2 + 2 = 4 is not an equation. It is an equality.
An equation contains unknowns that could be solved, for example 2x + 2 = 4x

@@peterchan6082 I hear there's a distinction in French, but standard English usage, by mathematicians and non-mathematicians alike, would disagree with you. And I have no idea what purpose such a distinction would serve in the first place.

      They are totally different concepts.

@@peterchan6082 Okay, so this is just a differing usage of words. Fair enough; that happens fairly frequently in mathematics. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and all that.
However, I do think "equation" and "equality" are conventionally treated as synonyms in the English language, and the different concepts are simply distinguished by context. I haven't seen anyone be confused by this terminology, so no problem.

Ice and snow are both solid states of water. Likewise steam and water vapour the gaseous states.
      Not interchangeable, however.

@@peterchan6082 Snow is made of ice crystals, and steam is made of water vapor.
But whatever, that's not the point. Let's focus on the main thing here, which is that I don't understand what point you're trying to make. Are you telling me that sometimes things can be similar despite being different? I know that already. Are you telling me that you're using different names for these similar but different things? I know that already. I genuinely have no idea what you're expecting to accomplish by telling me things that I don't need to be told.

Someday it will make sense to abstract addition away from multiplication. Multiplication is not iterated addition any more than the fifth postulate is universally true

You're by far the most insufferable person I've come across on the internet. It's hard to fathom how anybody could be so socially inept. What happened in your childhood that made you decide to spend your life acting like you're smart? Because smart people don't go around trying to flex the tidbits of information they have. If you're such a great mathematician - WHY ARE YOU WATCHING A VIDEO ON BASIC MATHEMATICS?
If you're such a great mathematician - why would you expect to learn anything? Why aren't you making videos if you're so smart? Because you're not. great video
