I do admire your distinction between faith and church. I think the world would be a better place if more people shared your perspective. Have a good day, my friend.

It took me a few years to reconcile it, honestly. A lot there to unlearn and at first I thought I had to give up my faith because the church had so agressiously let me down, but I've now realized that God pre-dates the church. By like A LOT.

Joyful Living with Jen Lefforge so true!! I love my faith and the relationship I have with God, but it’s the church and the culture of the church that I can’t really deal with right now. My opinions and views don’t align with the church

Omg!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH Jen for acknowledging the difference between OCD and being particular! It drives me nuts to hear people say “I’m so OCD”! Those kind of statements totally minimize the seriousness of OCD. It is a serious mental health condition that is debilitating for many people and nothing to joke about. My husband has struggled with OCD for the last 5 years, it can take over your life and take you down a hole that you feel you can never get out of. It is a daily struggle for so many people. Thank you again! 🙏🙏👏👏.

Yes- I think in the USA we have taken actual mental health conditions and turned them into colloquial terms, which minimizes the suffering of those who have the condition. Using “I am OCD” to mean “I am particular”. & “It gives me anxiety” to mean “I don’t like it” are prime examples.

What appeals to me about your videos as opposed to many other peoples' is that we always know we are getting the "real deal Jen L" every time, regardless of what the subject matter is. There is no persona or affect that you put on just for your public presentations. I know I've said this before, but your authenticity is your greatest asset. I really enjoyed this today - was a great way to wake up on a Saturday and feel like I was embraced by a big warm hug of joyful content. :-)

Oh my goodness. I did not realize how particular I was until I had kids...but it’s mentally exhausting trying to keep everything “just so.” Good enough is good enough-I like it. I remember you said something a couple of months ago about not feeling bad about letting your kids watch TV for awhile, and that your kids watched TV and they’re just fine. My kids have had some movie marathon days here and there, and your statement about TV has helped me not feel so bad. Thank you for that encouragement!

I really enjoyed and appreciated hearing a bit more about your faith journey. I’d love to hear more about how you approached faith parenting outside of a church. I also consider myself a person of faith but no longer attend church. As I was raised going to church, I don’t really know how to help my children develop their faith outside of that context.

Hi, Jen. New subscriber here. I've had Hashimoto's for years now; however, over time other autoimmune illnesses came onboard as well. Too long of a list to go into. Just want to share, be aware that one autoimmune illness quite often carries others with it, so doctors can get them under control quickly. Like you, I've learned to recognize flares. There are so many due to the overlapping of mine. All of us who have one or more of these illnesses really do need to, as you say, take chill time, as much as necessary until flares pass. I highly recommend Epsom Salts baths: eucalyptus, lavender etc. Wonderful for muscle aches, pain and relaxation. Note: sugar and high and refined carb diets cause serious inflammation. Curiosity question, since I'm a late subscriber: how did you and your husband meet?

Just wanted to say that the church issue is a large one for my family. My wife and I have been together for 15yrs and have a son that I have tried to raise in a church because I was . Being gay and being raised a Christian in Ga created lots of emotional struggles. We live in a small town and finding a local church that affirms has been impossible for us. We have been welcomed in a couple..but being allowed to lead has been their stopping point. I have given up for a while trying to find a church that is affirming...so thank you for your support!❤🧡💛💚💙💜

When my twins were born, there was a 17-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 10-year-old in the house. Working full time and being 41 years old, I knew sitting on the floor and playing with the twins was more important than a perfectly clean house.

Jen, as a fellow ultra-sensitive empath I am right there with you. My kids are still little (4,3, and 4 months) so between the weight of the world and the big feelings of tiny humans, it is a LOT. I’m sending lots of love your way. Also, thank you so much for your statement about OCD. I have OCD, and it is definitely hell. When people tell me they are “so OCD” because they like to be organized, I have to take deep breaths or else I will turn into a giant Maleficent-esque rage dragon. Generally in church terms, “affirming” means the church gives those in the LGBTQ community the same status as any other member and gives them full access to positions such as pastor or elder. Accepting is how I would define acknowledge but not agree. Hope that helps!

Thankfully my husband agrees, and even tells me to take solo trips to Disney, for my mental health of course lol. I’m also an empath, and right now being at home with them all the time I am feeling their stress (and every other emotion) 24 hours a day and it’s exhausting for me. What a great video Jen! I want to thank you for sharing details of your life that are very personal like you are chatting with a friend. You share so much of your life with your viewers, and we all appreciate it greatly. I think that is why your channel grows in spite of the "great unpleasantness" . Thank you also for making me have to learn something, because I had absolutely no idea what lgbt affirming was. You do learn something new every day, if you pay attention. I have issues with organized religions to a certain degree, but I must admit that it is the people who practice said religions that are most problematic for me. Especially those who wish to tell everyone else how to do whatever, while they themselves do not practice what they "preach". As always, I look forward to the next Jen Lefforge creation :-)

You’re not alone in not knowing that distinction but in church circles it’s a big difference in philosophy. I’m so honored to have you in this community!

I got the email that you uploaded and ran to you tube to see your video 😂. I always love FAQ videos. Thank you for sharing what you did about your faith journey. As a Christ follower it makes me so sad when I “meet” so many people who have been hurt by the church. I have some church hurt myself, but very different from what I know of yours. I wish we could do more sharing and following Jesus.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate how you answered some of those questions, especially the faith based ones. I think people feel like they either have to fully answer the question with all (or most of) the details or just not answer it at all. So I love that you found a way to share where you are now and some information about how you got there any why without giving out more information than you feel comfortable with.
I have a history with the church that has a lot of similarities to yours, and while I’d enjoy going to the right church and I think my husband would like to go to back to church, I’m not sure if there’s one that would be what aligns with my beliefs. If ever you feel comfortable talking more about your faith, I’d be very interested in hearing what it looks like in your life right now. Like do you/how do you currently study the Bible. If so, what resources do you use. I feel like growing up in the church (very conservative southern baptist) if we’re not actively going to church and talking about God all the time, we can’t possibly still have a strong faith. (Oh and don’t forget, we’re obviously failing our kids for the lack of indoctrination 😒)

LOVE this video. Thank you for sharing so much and being so honest. I really related to having strong faith but not being involved in organized church - if you did a follow up video, I'd love to hear ways you independently practice (could use some insight) ALSO love your parenting chat at the end. I am a mom with 2 under 2. There have been many nights where my 2 year old eats chicken nuggets or mac and cheese with blueberries for dinner because that's all she will eat. Food can be a battle that I don't always have the energy to fight. I always felt so much guilt those nights. Your words were reassuring and exactly what I needed to hear this Saturday morning

Absolutely over the moon when I can give a great mom permission to relax a little! we put way too much pressure on ourselves and it's an energy suck. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

I love that you are so open with who you are. I too am an impath which has helped tremendously in my career as an LCSW. Though sometimes being hyper sensitive has been challenging, that's for sure. Totally get your feelings on the church and I feel that I don't need organized religion to be spiritual and to have a relationship with God. Really great video and I couldn't hear Max panting over the panting of my large, dog. ;) Nice to know more about you.

Yes, the impath thing is a double edged sword FOR SURE but I wouldn't trade the good for the bad, if that makes sense? I'm sure you feel the same way. We just have to know when to protect ourselves a bit more.❤️

Just the other day, I got a shot from the dr's office, and my body kind of fought me on it. I rested for 2 days straight. I'll just say we've been really busy and the shot just wasn't having it for me. I am such the believer on going outside, take a walk, but then I also believe in the POWER nap. It has worked wonders for me. Just no tv,, no phone, for 2 days and just laying on the couch worked wonders for me.

Love the 70% parent! In the back of my head I worry I'll have to start making lunches (not by choice) when school goes back. I must say I find myself especially now giving myself permission to do (or not do) things with the mindset "it brings me joy", a sincere thank you for that!!!

Your comments on parenting overall and parentings are spot on. As a single mom of twins, I went straight to acting like a second time around mom because I just had to make things simple and not stress any more than necessary. If my kids get to go back to the actual school building, they'll be buying lunch again as that will just be one less thing for me to do.

Jen, because of the age of this video I’m not sure if you will see this comment but I felt led to respond. I appreciate the gracious way you described where you are in your faith journey. I am so sorry for whatever happened in your past that caused so much hurt. I am thankful that you haven’t let the failings of the church keep you from a relationship with Jesus Christ. I know you know God‘s word tells us to not for sake the assembling of believers. But I also know and I’m confident beyond a shadow of a doubt that God‘s grace is big enough to cover when someone is dealing with the kind of trauma you must have dealt with that has made church an unsafe place for you. May healing shower down on you from our Heavenly Father. Sending you big hugs!

I’m saying this to help you in the future, but gently reminding me not to disobey the Bible is not supportive for my journey nor is it appreciated. I’m sure you’re coming from a good place, but the Bible says a lot of things and I don’t appreciate strangers on the Internet admonishing me.

    • @aseasonedlifewithallisonde2789
      @aseasonedlifewithallisonde2789 3 роки тому

@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge thank you for your response. Please know it was in no way meant as an admonishment. I clearly missed the mark since I worded it in such a way that it came across that way. I hope you can forgive my poor choice of words. I tried to be very careful in my words and intended convey support for your journey as I know there are a lot of people who have been injured by the church, and their decision to take a break from church is often judged as being wrong. I wanted to convey support for your decision to take care of yourself as you are the best person to do that.
