  • The new Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries DLC "The Dragon's Gambit" has arrived. Let's take a look at all the gameplay aspects, story, new Mechs and weapon systems together. In this playthrough we will start a new career as a Mechwarrior thrown int o a conflict against our will.

    Gunji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita, fully aware of the encroaching menace posed by the FedCom Alliance, has taken decisive action to fortify the Combine's defenses against an inevitable war.     The gameplay of Mechwarrior 5 is split in two different parts. On the one hand you will have to manage your resources, hire new crew members, outfit your Mechs and travel through the Inner Sphere star map. But the action starts as soon as you get into the cockpit of your Battlemech yourself to fulfill contracts on the battlefield to earn more C-Bills and progress the story. I will review the weapon systems, battlemechs, show you how to build the loadouts and train your pilots and take a look at all the different mission types and upgrades of the MW5 Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC.

    As someone had mentioned in the last MW5 video, YOU SHOULD UPDATE THE COYOTE MISSION MOD!!!! There are now AEROSPACE fighters that you can obtain, and deploy on the battle field!!
    as far as I have seen, there are 3 classes of aero you can get. Note: You can ONLY steal these fighters. The mission will be a custom one you have not seen, and will be FAR more difficult than you would expect (At least, for the years I am playing in!). It is a mix of Stronghold Defense, and Attack and Defend missions. You MUST bring heavy armor and firepower to steal these fighters (Mechs with ECM highly advised. You will be facing base defenses). When you do steal these fighters, you will constantly have a smile on your face. These fighters are custom models, and have 3 different roles of aero, which you can have attacking any enemies on the map, covering the lance, and taking out artillery. You can launch them during a drop via the num pad! Only 1 aero space fighter per drop, and they ARE NOT ALLOWED ON ALL MISSIONS. For example, a duel will not allow air support. However demolition will. Keep this in mind when picking missions, as aerospace fighters can take out a hoard of 25 VTOLs with minimal effort, and little time. Or launch an assault on a base with mech backup! They are the COOLEST addition I have seen to MW5!!!!

    The "Salvage v1" and "Salvage v2" thing you were looking at @18:55 are things you selected at the start of the campaign. One of the mods hads 2 different types of salvage calculations for mission and you would have selected one of them (even if just by ignoring the other one). I'm pretty sure that's how it works anyway. It's possible that the modder has them both working in tandem in some way that I don't know about.

    Battle Grid Order mod. Its a thing of beauty. Lance mate commands via battle map can whip those easily distracted warriors into line.. Modder Hesto has expanded game play.

    Salvage V2 is what you are using, where you can't salvage whole mechs and have to assemble them with parts and that upgrade gives you a better chance of salvaging parts. V1 you can salvage whole mechs in whatever condition they were when you neutralized them depending on the % chance you set for V1. If it's not salvageable you'll get "salvage parts" from whatever chassis you blew up and can build a random mech of that chassis from the variants that are available for whatever time you are in, using 1 salvage per 5 tons. So a 100 ton King Crab would need 20 King Crab salvage, and a 25 ton Commando would need 5 Commando salvage. The upgrade gives more of those salvage parts per mech that's reduced to salvage.

    It doesn't make it obvious, but destroying the secondary base gives you a bonus payout of close to a million c-bills. Also I have had lancemates in non-jumping stalkers somehow walk up to join the fight there. I swear that part of that step is bugged so that if you're not looking at it directly the ai can walk up it.

      Yeah, had the same thing happen to me. I was confused, but happy, as the fight was pretty hard at that time.

      So i did this side mission a long time ago bringing only 1 mech with jump jets. I noticed that if you get too far from your lancemates, the game will give them jump jets to reach your destination even if those mechs cannot equip jump jets. It even has jump jet animations for those mechs. If you get far enough, the game also can teleport your allies to your location

    Having Royal Jump Jets kind of broke the pacing of that last mission of the video. 😄 Still though, most people still think hand-crafted missions are better than auto-generated missions in terms of uniqueness of level design and the environment. Also, good video. 🙂

    you should totally go get the dragon, it will take 5 minutes, just use the lam and fly right to the city target the mechs and fly to the end and wait for them. the lam will totally break the game for that one. i dont think i ever saw that secondary base on the last part.

    I love to slap 3x Inferno SRMs and 2x LPLs on the hero Orion. Shut 'em down and pop the cockpit. Classic.

    That section of the Northeast if you have the ammo and life in the mechs is worth going, especially if you have plenty of salvage points.

    Fun episode, that last mission was kind of a cliffhanger at points. The Orion looks very promising, those quirks seem suited to the kinds of builds you have been playing lately. I keep thinking to myself, "Okay, good picks I wonder what the random loot will be, oh, wait, that's the other game.". Oh well, fun time as always.

    You might consider using Jump Jets +, v2, you get more lateral movement over height you don't lose momentum in the air like you do in MWO. If you used the repair bays mod you wouldn't need to worry about things too much.

    The first time I discovered that second base I was running my Jenner. Somehow I survived it - hit and run while ducking for cover inside the base, if I recall. Was really exciting to discover and fight my way through it.

    The Yad al-Jauza is an LRM monster! 3x LRM-5 + 2x ER-LL + AMS build can do some insane damage if you have the gear for it. If you go 300XL engine + speedy legs + leopard C3 link, and fill the rest of the mech with 16x LRM-HE ammo bins (no room for endo or ferro) each tier 5 LRM-5 do ~48 dmg, tier 4 LRM-5 do ~43 dmg. Launching all 3 will 1 shot a lot of enemies, and with 16 bins you have basically unlimited ammo. I end up dumb firing them at targets all the time just to practice. Unfortunately there is a hard counter to launching only 15 missiles... AMS can be somewhat mitigated by missile range and velocity upgrades, but if you want to run the YAJ late game I'd recommend dropping a few bins of ammo and replacing the LRM-5s with clan LRM-10s.
    If you haven't been hording LRM-HE ammo from the beginning of the game, you might be able to optimize the damage further with LRM +3 dmg bins which would free up slots for endo and ferro, but that'll increase the rebuild and upkeep costs pretty substantially. I'm sure there's a more optimized build for it, maybe TAG in the 3rd energy hardpoint...
    I built something close to this and ran it until I was able to build a hero stalker to replace it. LRMs are boring to play (except for LRM-LAMs) but I like having an AI pilot run one. An AI with LRMs and sensors won't use them as often as you would expect, however with the higher damage per shot, at least the few shots the AI makes are doing some serious damage. Having one OP LRM boat is kind of like a cheat code. If a mission starts to go sideways, it's nice to have the option to switch mechs and kill everything from cover. The YAJ dominates manticore swarms on stronghold defense missions.

    Hey Bara. Happy new Year. Your question about the salvage upgrade. in the mod settings you can choose between Salvage V2 ( what you always used ) and V1 ( its the thing where you just like need 60 parts of a mech to assamble it. also you get 10+ pieces after a battle ) so the upgrade indicates it doesnt matter if you go with V1 or V2 salvage mod option you get 20% of the one you use! Hope that helps you out :) cheers and keep stomping o/

    I love that BL-6-KNT. Just fill it with vanilla medium and large lasers and all the energy upgrades. Melts any cockpit in one alpha strike most CTs in two.

    12 run throughs - story and open world over the years and I never checked out that hidden city either until last month - yah big face palm I never ran that mission with any jump jets until then.

    I recently salvaged a Crusader Hero Mech… the variant with ten Ballistic hard points and MG quirks… I’m currently running it with a full Clan build two T4 ER Large Lasers and Ten T4 MG’s… it is a Brutal Killing Machine…
    I’m currently being bad… watching this video at work… if interested I can post the particulars when I get home….

      On a side note: I found “Mist” at Earth! All the pilots available at Earth at that time were listed as “Hero” Pilots. Of course I hired him.

    Yeah, U need JJs to find the hidden base. At the end of the mission, on the salvage screen, payout section, U can see the information about the secondary objective.

    i love that hero orion but the quirks are a bit overkill. i mean sure its a good build and i wouldnt change it, but its quite restrictive with those huge quirks imo.

    I've noticed that I need about 8-10 pilots for a good roster.
    And I use a wide range of mechs. I still use 50ton mechs for certain missions. Granted they're usually the hero mech missions but RECON missions are the ones where you have to run to various checkpoints so having a fast mover is so helpful there.
    And I mentioned this once before, and I know these are pre-recorded, but ttrulez aim mod is one of the reasons your pilots are acting goofy

    Any one done the FRR start with same mods as Bara? The difficulty is savage, you start with mechs you can't even drop with lol. Fight assault mechs too.

    Nice to see you testing the pathfinding on your team mates. Don't know it they are particularly good at that.

    Last mission of Hazing The Weak showing perfectly, how utterly crapy AI is in MW5. I stopped playing this game because of AI of lancemates taken straight from 20 years old MechWarrior 4.
