Imagine a comic where Reed Richards was able to fend off Galactus's Hunger because of some Taco Bell Crunch Wrap Supremes, that is the Marvel Crossover I want to see
Fun fact, Taco Bell and KFC are sister companies owned by Yum! Brands, which itself is owned by PepsiCo. And remember, DC sold out to KFC. With that in mind, I think we can all agree the PepsiCo cinematic universe is the one to watch for!
As much as Ultron hates humanity, it would have been hilarious if he was running a taco bell franchise, based on how toxic the food is, believing he's slowly wiping out humanity within the letter of the law
Fun fact: As much as people love to make fun of Taco Bell it's actually both cheap and one of the healthiest fast food places (obviously not if you order a cheese burrito with extra cheese and cheese sauce, but their standard fare tacos yeah).
I laugh at the fact that they spent the money to put really nice art inside the book. But recycled covers for all of the covers. For example the avengers cover is from an Iron Man comic during the avengers disassembled arc. And the fantastic four cover is from Mark Wade‘s run.
I rarely go to Taco Bell, so I forgot that they had a Kid's Menu. Also, these both seem timeless, yet a product of a older era, Cap with a secret identity, Thor still using the Donald Blake identity, beardless Reed, and Eric O'Grady not being cancelled, then rebooting himself as Black Ant.
The Wrecker has a crowbar empowered by the Norse Gods. He's literally high magic. Why's he looking for wonder and enchantment in places with gift shops?
The only character that was actually going to eat Taco Bell from these four comics was the pervy Ant-Man most people forgot about. Not sure that's great marketing.
So many questions. When the bottle hit Cap did he say "Ow" because he wasnt expecting being hit or is he very sensitive to pain and ignores it all the other time? Wouldn't O'Grady make a better spokesman for subway with his deviant past? What do we call this universe? The Tacoverese? The Product Placement-Verse? Earth 2.84 cuz that's how much the kids meals cost back then according to my research
Ah yes, Eric O'Grady, the Antman who is so disgusting his own series was called irredeemable. All jokes aside, Irredeemable Antman is a great series to read and laugh at. Ps. I feel like I've seen the Thor and Avengers covers somewhere else.
A few comments up another user mentioned where two were recycled from. FF is from a Mark Wade run, and the Avengers cover is from an Iron Man issue during the Avengers Disassembled arc. Might be able to reverse image search the others to find the Thor cover too?
I got my first exposure to O'Grady in the Initiative, so slightly less irredeemable. And was sad to see what happened to him in Remender's ...Secret Avengers?
I have one of those: Superman and Wonder Woman helped RS tech-using kids to stop Luthor and save the (that one) day. I mounted it in a picture frame next to a giant size "ALL NEW Collectors' Edition $2.00" Superman vs. Wonder Woman who are about to tear each other apart in front of a drawing of Uncle Sam. "The Battle You Thought You'd Never See". I can't date it as I'd have to unpack it... Okay, Amazon is selling it in hard cover, the original published in 1978. Takes place in WW2. Superman has high hopes that nuke bombs will stop the Axis; WW wants to destroy the bombs to save innocent lives. A strange story... and "the mysterious samurai known as Sumo!" does something to distract the two. I don't think Taco Bell would approve, but the Colonel might have some ideas.
Jet-Henge may not be a real thing, but there is a Carhenge in Nebraska. And, of perhaps more relevance to you, there used to be an "Autohenge" in Port Perry, Ontario, but it rusted and was torn down in 2001.
4 comic arc about how Hydra has taken over taco bell and the avengers need to assemble to get them out of there. Each comic could be about a few members of the Avengers finding out in their own way. Maybe one of them could've overheard something while grabbing a quick bite at taco bell. The last comic being them assembling to free Taco Bell from Hydra's clutches. (And if you're able to collect, cough assemble, all 4, you get a free taco bell meal)
OK but when are we finally gonna take the deep dive into Combo Man that he deserves? Also, isn't the cover for the Avengers one from Thor Disassembled?
Originally from Thor vol. 2 #81's cover (which was part of the Ragnarok/Avengers disassembled arc). It seems to have reused for both a Thor: Disassembled TPB and also for a beefier one called Avengers Disassembled: Iron Man, Thor & Captain America. That one seems to have gone around.
Advertising any fast food place would be easy in a comic. Particularly Avengers or Justice League. Whoever is on monitor duty sends out for lunch, and then they have to run off to save the day as a villain attacks. Or the hero goes for fast food, and recognizes one of the villains in the restaurant.
We absolutely need to see the 2011 issues, if for no other reason than to see if anyone actually eats Taco Bell in those. I’d also be curious if you ever read the X-Men Pizza Hut tie-in comics, I had one or two in the mid ‘90s but I haven’t read them since then. I’m sure they’re treasures haha. Great video, I always enjoy your work!
I have to be pretty drunk to eat Taco Bell. There are just too many other choices that are better. Favorite quote: "I paid $20 to get into Mermaid World and there weren't real mermaids just girls throwing around fake mermaid tails." This was funny because I live near a "mermaid world"
I think she's onto something. It's all a conspiracy. Just look at that one scene in End Game where Ant Man lost two of his Tacos. First Rhodey, War Machine scared the Tacos out of him literally. Bruce Banner, Hulk feels bad for him so he gave two of his to Ant man. It's all a subliminal messaging. Buy Taco Bell.
The cover of the Avengers one is from the 'Thor Ragnarok(Avengers disassembled)' comic. You should check it out sometime. It's way better and far darker than the movie.
I remember some Marvel Comics telling gets to be healthy. One where Dr. Octopus got a toothache. It was in the era of Spider-Man wearing a backpack. Another had Captain America fighting the Asthma Monster.
I remember reading a Spider-Man comic where Peter is on Coney Island and announces that he wants a hot dog from Nathan's. It was a single panel, but featured a full sized illustration of a Nathan's restaurant.
Marvel and the Army/Air Force have the same gimmick. It's kinda like an early NCIS episode: The Navy(troops) starts the adventure, something goes down (the villain and shenanigans), NCIS (the heroes) show up and save the day, and the sponsor is a product and not a character. There'll be an AAFES store in the background or a product someone bought.
Hey any of you guys remember the Marvel Pizza Hut comic that came out in the early 90's? This just reminded me of it. I've got it in a box around here somewhere along with the rest of my comic books. No recollection of what it was about. I vaguely remember Daredevil being on the front(in early 90's attire no less) and maybe Iron Man or War Machine but I may be making that up so don't quote me on that. I'll have to dig it out this weekend and take a look at it. I've got a feeling that it wasn't an earth shattering story. Love the show by the way. Also he is indeed the worst Ant-Man.
Remember the old ads for twinkies and other sweets in marvel comics... i always found them hilarious. One of my fav bonus from buying real silver/bronze books
I cannot get over the Hulk shooting Reed Richards away like a rubber-band. Really can’t get past this happening in a Taco Bell exclusive and not even once in the main continuity.
These were probably inventory stories, already completed, but just requiring the smallest of product placements to meet criteria. As such, they were probably less costly for Taco Bell 🔔 marketing, as opposed to all-original material, like KFC's DC fare.
During the time I worked at Taco Bell they were doing Star Wars promotions for the second trilogy. personally, if I were to tie in a comic book and a fast food company I'd go with Deadpool and Wendy's. Old Woman Customer: "Where's the beef?" Deadpool in a banana hammock bikini: "Right here, grandma!"
If I can cross promote a comic book series, I would do it with a coffee shop. The parents order coffee in the morning and also have something for their kids to enjoy to read.
I remember Taco Bell doing this again, mainly because I got the Invincible Iron Man issue from them because it was written by Brian Clevinger and to this day is still one of my favorite Iron man issues.
Not exactly comics related, but they used Snickers with some of the DC characters where people turned monstrous until they got a Snickers Bar. They also teamed up with Sports Illustrated in a Swimsuit issue where they had a swimsuit model turn into a D&D monster until she got a Snickers Bar.
You being the "Queen of Comics", I'm sure you own the 1981 DC Superheroes, Super Healthy Cookbook, and the 1977 Marvel Superheroes Cookbook. The DC one being more fun and creative. Please do a video on these, or even one on those old superhero, yummy Hostess ads. Only you can do them humorous justice, you're our only hope... Keep up the great work👍
thank you, ma'am, may I have another? I'd love to see the 2011 version! interesting to see that Sarah Pichelli, who drew the F.F. installment, went on to draw the series for reals years later.
The Captain America is the same image used for the alternate cover of the Death of Captain America issue. Also, I agree: we need in depth vids about Pizza Hut's X-Men and Real Heroes comic lines! BTW, your look was very Masters of the Universe Horde!
I suggest looking at the X-Men comics they gave out at Pizza Hut, the mini comics that came in boxes of Drake's snack cakes or just the infamous Hostess ads.
If Martin and those kids did go and work for Tony then it would doubtless go pear shaped very quickly, and he'd have to tell them 'why don't we disband while we have the chance?!'
I would argue that even if you use the correct vocabulary, if your child is saying sentences like "I'm learning things well." the school system has failed them.
I would go heavy. Spider-Man is doing a gig at Taco Bell when Mysterio attacks. Taking in the setting, Mysterio uses Taco Bell imagery to mess with Spider-Man. Lucky for Spidy, Taco Mel (at Taco bell employee) helps him navigate the illusions by pointing out inconsistencies.
There were a series of panels made into wall mounted artwork showing Spiderman, antman and Tony stark discussing how much Peter Parker loves Five Guys in the bathroom at the local five guys burgers and fries here in Ohio lol
I only have the Thor one and I wish I could get the other three for a good price, these came out when I was in high school and I miss when Taco Bell had fast food toys or Burger King actually advertising their current ones.
0:06 I actually liked Eric. Partly because I was interested in the concept of G.I.Ant man as a semi mass production deal. But he's like taking Guy Gardner dialing up the pervert and down the meathead. Then he dies and there's the evil robot version.
Resting a drink on a bed next to a laptop is such a bad idea. The artist that forgot to draw in the product placement till the last minute really made that non-character who's never appeared before or again look really stupid.
O’Grady was okay in the Ant-man and Wasp mini series he was in with Pym. Before you mentioned the creeper stuff I thought he was comparable to Guy Gardner of the GLs.
Honestly, now I just have this idea of like, the fantastic four and doom stuck together on a roadtrip. Maybe like through space or time or other universes. Just sounds like fun.
Watching this, I'm thinking that you should do a video on the Hostess ads. The plots of those were pretty much how I thought all of these stories were going to end.
I've been enjoying your 'free promotion' comics coverage....but what I'd love to see is your reaction to the Avengers comic that was sponsored by the Florida Citrus Growers and features the origin of...wait for it...Captain Citrus, the Guardian of All Things Juicy! I THINK it's titled AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #1: FLORIDA CITRUS GROWERS. It's just...insane.
The Avengers one was interesting. Everyone debating if a person could change. All while long time Sasha watchers know, since the Avengers didn't disband when they had the chance, they were a team mostly made up of three reformed villians for a long while.

Now I need to know how The Wrecker find out the Mermaids were fake... I'm slightly concern.
I was highly amused by the incredibly stupid Subway backup stories that ran in DC comics, a few years ago. Various sports stars would be out doing whatever, wearing Subway shirts as if they're brand ambassadors, and badguys would show up to spoil everyone's fun. The heroes would find a Subway, take a bite of something with avocado in it, and it would give them super powers like Popeye and his spinach. It was awesome.
Cold flashback to that one Moongirl comic where a major plot point was a STEM science fair at school sponsored by *LEGO™* and every other voice bubble had *LEGO™* in it and the big bad was defeated with the aid of a *LEGO™* triceratops mecha
I worked at Taco Bell during the late '90s/early 2000s. They had a couple of different Marvel promotionals. They had these little Marvel Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots type things that punched when you pressed buttons on the handles. About 4 of the six characters were X-Men characters (it was Captain America, Hulk, Cyclops, Iceman, Mystique and Sabretooth. Not the oddest combination of characters but still a bit strange. I mean, Iceman over Wolverine and no Spider-Man at all?). And there was also an X-Men Evolution kids meal, with clip-on backpack hangers. Also: Ewwwwww . . . . Eric O'Grady.

The Wrecker has a crowbar empowered by the Norse Gods. He's literally high magic. Why's he looking for wonder and enchantment in places with gift shops?
Yeah the crowbar is magic but it’s really more of empowering him than it is giving him magic skills. He used to just be a construction worker
Ultron is the true hero of the book he’s in because he saved Ant-man from a fate worse than death; leftover Taco Bell😬
I remember when Taco Bell had kids meals because the toys were actually pretty neat back in the 90s. They also had a Cat and a Dog as mascot.
Pepperidge farm remembers.
Taco Bell kids meals used to hit the spot. I guess this is growing up.
Yea especially the star wars phantom menace toys from 99

Various sports stars would be out doing whatever, wearing Subway shirts as if they're brand ambassadors, and badguys would show up to spoil everyone's fun. The heroes would find a Subway, take a bite of something with avocado in it, and it would give them super powers like Popeye and his spinach. It was awesome.
Bring forth that 2011 insanity. Please and Thank Ye! :)
Cold flashback to that one Moongirl comic where a major plot point was a STEM science fair at school sponsored by *LEGO™* and every other voice bubble had *LEGO™* in it and the big bad was defeated with the aid of a *LEGO™* triceratops mecha
Wait, Cap had a secret identity at one point post-being unfrozen? How did that work with him being presumed dead for decades?
I thought calling them "speedlines" was nerdy enough. "Velocity lines" is next level. What do canadians call "motion blur???"
The heck? The art [for a fast food tie-in] is better than what most current creators are going to retail with. That's sad.
I remember getting a Flash comic back in the day from a cereal box. Good times.
I’d love to see you cover more stuff like this. The Avengers and Harley Davidson. Or the Justice League and Sears.
We better get the other set, I have a mighty need!
Re: "Watch out Jason"...LOL
