Stringbean sings the blues. When I was a kid, I’d see him on Hee Haw fairly often. Though I liked him, I saw him as more of a comedy act. Comedy was part of his act, but there was also a damned fine musician under that silly hat. He could frail a banjo faster than anyone I’ve ever seen, and he could sing or crack a joke while doing it. Here on this tune, he plays a bluesy two finger style that really shows off his skill. I’ve come to appreciate the talent of Stringbean more and more as I get older.
I'm watching this on October 9, 2024 as Hurricane Milton makes landfall in Florida, and afraid if my poor old dang roof will hold on thru the night. This song seems oddly appropriate at the moment. Greetings from Northeast Florida to everyone out there ☮️
@RoyD1970 Well the roof did leak in a couple spots but at least it didn't blow off. Hurricanes make me extremely anxious and I can't wait till the day I can move to a state that doesn't have them, and is not so Hot 🥵
lol and the old timers complain about hip hop kids with low trousers and emo kids talking about suicide. The Bean was WAY ahead of his time! I say it in jest, I grew up with old time and bluegrass, my grandpa was a fiddler. ;-)
I'm not sure if it "wasn't such a major issue" lmao. There just wasnt the internet/social media to inform you of every single thing going on all around the world. Ya know?
@@hatake1990 i'm sure you're right but i also feel like their wasn't as much pressure to support a family, pay a mortgage and bills and still have money and time to enjoy quality time with your family, nowadays its just a rat race...

His first pair of shoes was a pair of cleats that were thrown out, and he found. People wouldn't give him rides into town because he was poor. Long story short.. I recorded a cover of this about twenty years ago and it was banned by the local radio station, though people were requesting it. 😐 Go back 30 years before String recorded this song and Uncle Dave was shouting "Kill yourself!" on his records.
He and his wife met a sad end, It was the end of an era for Nashville too. He made us laugh. He made us happy. Letter from home, right here next to my heart, heart, heart, then he would find it in his back pocket! Lesson for today: Carry a personal protection pistol, larger than a .22, which I believe Stringbean had. He used it, and missed. As a result, both he and his wife were killed. Practice with your weapon of choice. Gun control means being able to hit your target. My karate instructor, a 7th degree black belt, put it best when one of my classmates thwarted a knife wielding robber at a bus stop. He told us using his best English: "Man have gun, man have knife, give him what he wants, you life more better!."
After my grandmother died, I lost track of that part of the country. I sincerely hope they did. (My grandmother lived in the mountains outside of Gatlinburg, TN.) She would take me to Sweet Fanny Adams Theater, the Grand Ol' Opry, and Dollywood. I loved them all, but as I play the sax, I am more of a blues person myself.
+Terry Dacktill they found 20000$ in stringbeans chimney.. back then it would have been worth about $150000 in todays terms... but it was given to the banl because of its condition.. MAYBE THATS WHAT HIS KILLER WAS LOOKING FORWARD
i liked this song a lot less a year ago when it didn't fit my past quite so well. bout die over some bitch and this gets quite a lot funnier and more comforting

Every man contemplating putting a ring on a woman today should listen to this song before they make a potentially fatal mistake.
