    Just got the 40 mm Ball Marvelight M Blue dial. Very Comfortable, bracelet tapers nicely- looks great too. Bruce fails to mention the 80 hr power reserve and the slightly domed sapphire crystal that finishes this watch beautifully. I don't think I have wound this watch since I got it a few weeks ago, and I don't wear it everyday... It's a very good choice...

    Came from Rolexes to Breitling and haven’t looked back. Have not had Tudor or Omega, but I do agree with you that Rolex, Omega and Breitling are the 3 brands most people recognize. The quality of Breitling has kept me with that brand. Even if Rolex pricing wasn’t inflated I would still stick with Breitling.

    • @jamess8175
      @jamess8175 4 роки тому

      You made a good choice. Indeed Breitling maintains a very high standard of quality. You can tell their QC is truly stringent. Even their sapphire crystal and AR coating are second to none. Hold the watch, you know it oozes quality. To top it off, the movements are calibrated to extreme accuracy, whether the modified ETA or in-house movement. On this note, their in-house B01 movement is really a gem.

    To that last question I want to add the Tag Heuer Aquaracer as I feel Tag completes the 4 known brands with what you mentioned and it is lower on the budget if the intention is to use it as a daily wear to avoid scratching up his other 2 watches.

    • @Starstreak170

      Yeah, most everyday people have heard of TAG Heuer. Love or hate them, TAG know how to market.

    • @planetdee3587
      @planetdee3587 4 роки тому

      @@Starstreak170 , this is very true. Most watch people I think do not like them as much because out of the 4 they are considered the more entry level, but brand wise they are pretty well know as luxury to those that are not watch people. And my personal opinion I like their modern watches.

    The thing with Breitling is always mentioned..the ETA´s inside (lower end Breitlings..), well....those wont cost an arm and a leg to service and almost any watchmaker around the world can service it. The Tudor is not really a Rolex, but damn close related and made from the same steel etc., and yes, it brings up some old history from their archives, but..., but fact is, people buy it because they wanna have something as close to the real deal, the Rolex that is. Go for the Breitling, it wont let you down, and..it is not standing in the shadow of something else, that brand has history and all the rest to back it up. is it a downgrade from your other watches, the Breitling, yup, but hey..the movement inside is a bad ass beater and the watch, is ment for being used, hard every day..so enjoy it Ryan.

    Man tough match up between the Ball and the Tudor! Bruce makes a good point with the pricing of the Ball though. If you don't NEED the latest model, you can find previous models for well under $2K. While Tudor may get you more brand recognition from non watch people, that's exactly why I'd pick the Ball.
    Somethings to consider is that the Tudor should wear slimmer at ~11ish mm while the Ball is around 13mm (super tall tritium tubes) and to me, I feel the Tudor has more of a rugged field aesthetic while the Ball leans closer on the dressy side.

    I love my first gen 2500 Planet Ocean 42mm, black dial/black bezel and white numerals, I know I'm biased but I feel it sometimes gets overlooked in the Omega diver lineup, to me it's the best looking modern Omega diver, I bought mine in 2010 and I've come to appreciate the look and dimensions even more over the years as the newer iterations have been released, I think the design was ahead of the curve when it comes to the classic aesthetic with a modern build quality, it's a keeper that I enjoy every time I put it on wrist.

    I had to make the exact same choices. In the end I went for the Tudor black bay steel. But it took me ages to decide! I looked at the breitling, the ball marvelite. And I may have been swayed by the longines big eye but I wanted a steel bracelet. Oh and I looked at the tag Heuer aquaracer, which I think is actually the best looking one. I do not regret buying the Tudor as it keeps fantastic time 2.5 seconds per day and feels as solid as a rock. Has the best resale value by miles as well. Many thanks Bruce for taking the time to do the video. It's a choice a lot of people have to make.

    Agree absolutely what you say here Bruce . The age old problem with the tudor bb41 is the thickness . Although it is not ridiculous but no question it affects wearability. If it was your only watch you would become accustomed to it but when in rotation it’s always noticeable, my gmt will go out at some point due to this .. They really have to address the thickness, they have altered the movement for the 58 now they have to follow suit with the 41..

    I currently own the considered Omega Seamaster 300 SMPc Midsize (36.25) in black and previously owned the Tudor 1926 (36mm) and I have a 6.5” wrist. In my opinion:
    Tudor Black Bay 58 is internet hype. In person it’s not that great and faux patina will get old (no pun intended) sooner than later. The case wears huge as well (I admittedly like smaller watches). There’s a reason why Seamasters are regarded in the manner in which they are. The finishing, design and brushing/polish even when on my Nato is beyond impressive (from the lugs to the crown), and durable as can be (even details like having crown guards compared to none on the Tudor). The movement is awesome, I’m tracking +1.2sec a day (last test), and it’s very comfortable. The dial is awesome and the double AR coating makes the sapphire glass seem nonexistent. It’s not the perfect watch though - bracelet has no micro adjustments and when on bracelet it can feel heavy due to the construction of it. Actually that’s my only con, and you can purchase the adjustable clasp.
    Tudor 1926 was ‘OKAY’ at best. The bracelet fits poorly on my 6.5” wrist and the watch itself didn’t wear that well on leather strap either. The dial was pretty boring in person and the date window threw everything off. Tudor cases aren’t very comfortable to me and the 1926 styling didn’t help make up for it.

    With regard to the first question, Omega. I like the Seamaster primarily for its flexibility. For me, it can be worn for any occasion. In my opinion, value is perceived. Rather than buying models like everyone else, I go more for uniqueness and what I like. That is why I would go for Ball. Breitling vs. Tudor, here I would jump on the Breitling. I also go for rugged tool watches and this Breitling would be my perfect beater.

    Simon, to piggyback on what Bruce mentioned, i agree but maybe also consider what you want aesthetically out of this first luxury piece. The Tudor is great although it carrys a different look, a bit more reserved. If thats your jam than case closed but if you think that in the long run you’d want to have a bit of a flashier piece than maybe the seamaster is the one. Anyhow, just another aspect to consider. Good luck Simon and ENJOY the process!

As for alternatives Bruce hit the nail on the head with the Longines, I have it and love it. Number 3. The Tudor is the better buy, I would consider the Seiko Marinemaster as an alternative. Get yourself a preowned Carl F Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec . 1950.1in-house finished ETA 2824-2 movement , certified Chronometer, 500 m dive rating drop dead looks that P all over the Breitling and isn’t trying to be similar to an older brother like the Tudor. It’s a genuine understated classic punching above its weight. Now is the era to break away from what the crowd is doing.Just my opinion still as I’m sticking the money away to get a rose gold and steel version.
    There’s a lot more worthy contenders out there in other brands some with in-house movements for the three grand you’ve got to spend. Maybe even sit tight for a little bit and see if you can move up a notch without spending much more money than you’ve got to hand. Good luck.

As a watch fanatic. you have to maintain value so that when you wanna trade out you get most of your money back. losing value keeps you from buying more watches later. Tudor is a yawner for me. Sure, they may keep value more, but that's not always a reason to wear a watch.

    The correct answer is none of the above...save for Rolex. Best decision Ive ever made.

      Dylan Rolex are way too dressy. Sold mine. No thanks. Look like watches for women instead of men.

    Ryan: 1st question. Why? You have a Rolex and Omega for your divers. Obviously you like your divers and now want another. But, hey! You can get a diver and have a chronograph to boot. Talking Tudor Black Bay Chronograph. Great Pre-owned, or Gray market is about in your price range.

    The rivets on the BB58 bracelet are so tacky. Omega all day, every day. Wearing my 300m SMPc right now (black.)

      moeharri do you not find the bracelet too thick since it doesn’t taper? Only thing holding me back from pulling trigger on it.

    In regards to Tudor and Omega comparison. Bad advice. If Tudor didn’t have a 3rd degree connection to Rolex, nobody would care about them. They lean on celebrity endorsements for clout. Never ever everrrrrrrr would I choose a Tudor over an Omega. Not ever.

    • @BruceWilliams

      Not at all. You need to look objectively on a model by model basis. Having owned multiple from each brand it definitely is a model by model basis for superiority
