Given that fact that they've not used up the boot and haven't compromised any space for the battery pack and still managed to pack 240kms is really impressive!
The EV with the manual gearbox is such a dream of every car enthusiast
6-8 lakhs (excluding the car prices) is crazy, I could buy a new EV for that.
The R & D, testing and ARAI certification for amy model costs upwards of 1 cr rupees. GoI should reduce ARAI certification costs for EVs to zero or bare minimum for retrofit kit industry to boom. Else, there is no hope
Good option for older cars to get a new lease of life in EV age. That smile on Saumil's face when the car took off in 1st!
A 35 kwh motor and 400 km range would make it really worthwhile. Great start.

This is awesome. Giving a good value to people driving a lot daily in cities. Having 240km of range won't even give range anxiety and would last a week without charging for most people.
To justify the 6-7 lakhs extra cost, you need to drive at least 80 kms every day.

Wont the high torque of the motor cause long term reliability issues for the clutch and gearbox? Also, how is the additional 200kg battery weight in the rear balanced? Won't the car be rear heavy compared to ICE model? I assume that the reduced GST benefit of OEMs won't apply either. Isn't selling your ICE car and buying a new EV a better option?
Full Motor Torque is delivered only once the clutch is engaged. Half clutching torque is limited to 50 nm. No there isnt 200kg of extra weight in the boot. Front axle and Rear Axle weights are within permissible limits. The total weight in the low range version is actually lower than the ICE Version. The extended range version is 7-8% heavier, which is within permissible limit again. GST Benefit, Road Tax refund, Engine Buy Back, and Subsidy are being worked upon and hopefull will be granted soon enough,, bringing the price down of the kit drastically. And it totally depends on the user if he wants to convert an existing car or buy a new OEM EV. Also We have options of a brand new EV Pre Convert Option, As in you buy a newly converted EV directly from us. Benefits include choosing a car thats not in the existing EV line up as of now, getting more customisation options such as Batt pack options, motor torque options, etc. Also given the current market scenario, those buying a new EV have a lead time of 6-12 months. We are ready to deliver within 3 months for a limited no of clients. Plus an additional point - Those who already have cars about an year old,specially with Loans on it, dont have the option of selling and buying another car. It makes more sense to just convert. The break even of the kit only on fuel expense is close to 18 months only for commercial application. So its worth it. But at the end of day, its an individual decision.

Such a good initiative by Northway motors. Actually this should be taken up by maruti india itself.A range of 240km is exceptional with this conversion which can be improved better with the newer blade battery technology. If maruti starts there electrics then it will be definitely on sale without even a test drive!!!. No other Evs can match up with their sales..As always everything comes from maruti so late..👎

I love 💕 gears ⚙️ and this explains why. You get crazy efficiencies. He says top speed without digital cut off is 195 - 200 Kmph! Hemank, you totally 💯 rock 🪨 dude! 😎

Good Idea to convert old IC cars to EV (under scraping policy)... I suggest the Maker to develop for other cars and SUV..
I also request Autocar Team to clarify if CVT cars can also be retrofitted with this or not ?

Great initiative by Northway but I wonder who would be their target customers. If I was a new car buyer I would pick up a tigor EV any day over this. May be this would be a good project for 10 year old vehicles which are out of commission.
Wish they could replicate this for a two wheeler at a reasonable cost which would be a game changer.

Nice concept but very expensive to own one.
I was getting curious for contact details of Team northway Motorsport. But after getting the cost of the kit .
Dropped the idea instantly .
Govt. Should support vehicles more than 15years age to do this conversion. Vehicle age should not be a problem as everything is new. Ev doesnt bring any active pollution.
Well for somebody with a car 15 years old, but still in condition too good to scrap. This is the best option.
Can they do the same for an old SX4?
Evolution is a journey.......we should be proud of such initiatives ....definately a ev built/engineered right fm scratch would be superior, but this retrofitment is worthy of praise.....it's not easy to have such fittings with engineering and financial constraints....with time and experience there will be a fine product awaiting...nonethless kudos to hemank and team.,..

I have called Northway Motorsports, they clearly said at present they convert only TATA ACE - Gold. Govt has not yet given them permission to convert private family passenger car.

Does not give any ROI when compared to other electric cars on offer.
Dzire car - 8 lakh rupees
Retrofit - 6-8 lakh rupees
Net price - 14-15 lakh rupees for 240 km range
I can buy a Nexon for that price with an 8 year warranty.
Not feasible to convert a 10 or 15 year old vehicle investing 6 to 8 lakhs into it . Considering one can buy a new hatchback approx in that rate which will last 15 years more .Conversion kit will only make sense when it reaches a level of 3 lakhs rs for 250 kms per kit .. till then it will just be a prototype and technology showcase vehicle.
they only accept brand new cars for conversion. Aged cars are not converted.
The cost '6-8 lacs' depends on the vehicle weight. If you have a High end luxury car, thats within 1,500 kgs, 6-8 lacs is peanuts for extending your expired registration (delhi) and reduce your running cost. Ofcourse we are still fighting our way to get certifications for those cars, but one day, it'll happen. Won't the price make sense then? Plus for buyers of Swift Dzire kit, Engine Buy back, Subsidy, Road Tax Refund, and Low GST will be an added benefit which we are trying for too.

They should have mated it to AMT available with Dzire.... I reckon it would have been much much better in terms of drivability

Conversion of dezire ags to EV possible?
How do the makers wish to bring it in to the market. As of now, I see that it is viable only for those who already own a Swift dzire, and wish to upgrade to EV. But some one who wishes to replace his old car with an ev, this is not practical, bcoz a new dzire + EV kit can get you a Nexon. The options I see to sell the car to someone replacing their ice car are:
1. Partner with MS, for ev making and roll out electric marutis.
2. Buy car minus engine from maruti, fit in the kit, rebrand with their own brand name and sell.
They accept only 2020 model Dezire or newer for conversion Narasimha.
Since Maruti Suzuki isn't in the EV business, they should tie up with Northway MS and offer their chassis' and mutually beneficial terms

Really nice. You can at least get rid of petrol / diesel by converting them into electric car. 240 km is not bad at all but around 300 km is quite good.
