This was bound to happen eventually. Animators in Japan are notoriously underpaid and overworked but it's thanks to Mappa's recent success that the cracks are starting to show. Mappa has proven to be an astounding animation studio time and time again. But it's still part of one the most unfair and borderline inhumane industries out there. Animation takes so much time and Quality animation even more. Im glad the animators are speaking out. And to all the ignorant consumers that don't care and just complain: Remember why you love the show you're watching in the first place. Those animators want to give the best result possible but they are not machines, they are just passionate people that are dying for breadcrumbs.
The amount of times I've seen people on twitter saying "this shit looks ai generated lmao" and with it a clip with some of the most beautifully animated sequences in anime history is insane.
7:56 And that here is the problem. Animators need to be encouraged to develop self-respect. They need to understand they they shouldn't work for peanuts. They should never be okay with how they are treated
This. I've never seen them as victims because I know they are full grown adults who have constantly enabled their abusers. Watch how quickly management will change if animators decided to boycott MAPPA.
Do this in an economy like Japan with its stringent work culture, no real history of unionization and additionally, workers' rights being very lax, and you'll not only get fired, but your ex-employer will also make sure that you'll never take a proper foothold in that industry again - or when, then only for even worse conditions. Change has to be enforced collectively by all animators and not just a few hands full of people that can't take it anymore.
Yeah, I can't see anything changing unless Japan forms some kind of taskforce of undercover people to go to those types of workplaces and hits them with massive fines. Even to the point of bankrupting the companies and encourages workers to bring in evidence of such companies existing. Cos if you as a worker speaks out, then you just get labeled as problematic and won't be able to get hired by other companies. @@Psychx_
@@ChadVigilante they are taught to blindly respect their elders. they need to understand that respect is earned not given. but they seem to have ignored that fact which in turn resulted in what is basically slave labor.
You know people need to work and make money to support themselves/family right? If they “stop working for peanuts” then they’ll be out of a job and their primary source of income. The numerous mention of new/untrained animators suggests that they will be replaced the second they boycott or leave, and it will be difficult for most to find work as animators with a scar like that on their resume. It’s not a matter of “self-respect” at all.
I think every show should be given minimum a year to be worked on and to only be released, if all the episodes are already finished. If not then delay,a good animated show delayed will be more profitable in the long run than a rushed badly animated show
100% agree One Punch Man (season 1 specifically) is a fantastic example of this It was made in a little over 12 months with a staff of talented animators and director Shingo Natsume OPM was only 12 episodes and they had a year to produce it JJK S2 is going to be about 23 episodes and from what I’ve heard they only had 9 months to produce most of season 2 and we’re now seeing the cracks show, it’s so sad Ideally a 23-25 episode season should have minimum 18 months or an average of 2 years for the production cycle
its literally not "more profitable in the long run" though, pretty much the same number of people watch it regardless, especially if its a 2nd season onwards. we will complain about the bad animation online, but realistically it doesnt make a difference & delays cost insane amounts of money. theres a reason why this issue keeps happening, bad animation IS the most profitable option
@@BrandonBarnwell yes it actually is, think about it the better it is animated the more the fandom will like it and the more they will recommend it to new ppl trying to get into anime and this will bring more potential customer for the bluray and more publicity for mappa
I think that's what they did with Mob Psycho 3. They completed it or at least went really far in the production timeline and then slowly started releasing episodes
I am glad poeple are starting to see the other side of Mappa after the backlash they got. I was never of fan of the company taking every popular IP and then throwing a dice to see whether or not it will be above avarage or below avarage. So far things have gone pretty well, but one really starts to feel sad when something like Hell's paradise gets to look below avarage, when it would have deserved so much better. The worst thing is actually, how slow the anime community is, at realising this, instead going on raving about how the studio raises the standars for animation, even though it's clear that outside of a few standout episodes and shows like JJK the quality that the studio puts out is not so high.
@@jessepowell5750 Outside of a few pretty decent scenes and effects the show mostly looks avarage with ugly background art and frequently off model characters, sometimes looking outright garbage.
There is only one way they can go on in the future. Give up Hell's Paradise to someone who has the time to put into it. Cycle between Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga and Jujutsu Kaisen. I'm talking about at least a nine months break between JJK and CM at least, not one of them every season like they did this past year. Don't pick up anything else that huge for the next couple of years at least. The three shows left have huge fandoms and bring tons of money, the investors will be fine for just a couple of years of scaling back. The staff deserves the time they need. Can you believe we got : Chainsaw Man last Fall. AOT part 1 and Vinland Saga in Winter. Hell's Paradise and Vinland Saga in Spring. JJK in the Summer. JJK and AOT part 2 this Fall. That's just depressing.
Btw I agree with you but to be clear AOT and CSM/JJK is under different teams so they don't affect each other's production times. So this year, part 3 and 4 of AOT got a decent to good schedule all in thanks due to Director Yuichiro Hayashi who somehow convinced of a delay. Meanwhile, Seshimo line that does JJK and CSM are MAPPA's definite best team and is without a doubt probably the best team in the anime industry due to the connections it has to talented animators which is only rivaled by the Fukushi line at Madhouse that is currently doing Frieren. However, they have to juggle between JJK and CSM with little time in between causing this line to have a notably consistent mediocre to downright hell schedule. For Vinland, that didn't really affect the other projects at the first department(AOT, Hell's Paradise, and more) at MAPPA too much due to a lot of the staff returning from season 1 with director Yabuta even becoming a MAPPA employee. However for Hell's Paradise, the problems with that were due to low talent on board and a bad schedule as well. While the Seshimo line has bad schedules, they still do have an army of the best talent in the industry. Hell's Paradise didn't have that because it was under animation producer Kawagoe who was also the producer for AOT and he prioritized talent onboard to AOT instead of Hell's Paradise instead. There's also the Maboroshi movie and Lazarus in the future at the first department but those had heathly schedules with plenty of talent onboard. Sorry for the long explanation.
@@lazyworkingsloth Think I got it. So Chainsaw Man an JJK have the same team, which explains the current struggle. Vinland Saga is kinda it's own thing, for the most part, since a big part of it is season 1 staff that stayed. AOT and Hell's Paradise are another one. I wonder what will happen to the AOT staff. Is it gonna help out the others? Or is it gonna put itself fully with Hell's Paradise? Obviously this is just talking about the individuals on the teams. The real problem is the schedules. No way a team like JJK's should struggle so much otherwise.
@@silveratlas2706 Yep most likely AOT staff would now help work on Hell's Paradise and even Vinland Season 3 with Hayashi taking on Dorohedoro Season 2 which would mainly use CGI and not take too much resources in the 2d area. Of course schedules are another thing but having adequate staff helps.
Hells Paradise was a case where Kawagoe is very busy with AOT. Thats why the animation was so poor. But I do hope things will get better in Season 2 because the AOT team are now transferred to that anime. Please, I do hope that they had enough time to work things out.
I am sure the animators have signed non competes and feel stuck. They probably can’t work as animators for a specific time after they leave the company so it makes it hard to move on if they want to continue in the field.
@@terimichelle747 I doubt it'd be in the US. With their own worker unions and what not. Also, MAPPA is a Japanese company, so maybe it isn't as illegal in Japan xd.
They do quality because they’re taking the quantity they literally work long hours and forced to make quality animation at the exact same time so that’s not the case.
Yeah, chainsaw man is one of my favorite animes of all time, but mappa has bitten off more projects than they could possibly handle and that has caused the quality to take a drop
@1kbmahan that's the studios problem. Jjk s2 is also very inconsistent in terms of animation. For ex, yuji vs grasshopper was hells paradise level in terms of quality
This is why KyoAni (Kyoto Animation) will always be my favorite studio. Not only do they treat there employees well (which should be the bare minimum but sadly its not), they also release beautifully animated series. Some of my favorites from them are Violet Evergarden and Clannad After Story, just a great studio
Luck is mentioned multiple times in this video. There is no luck here. They are getting away with it because of the toxic work culture in Japan. They work to show loyalty to their company and they aren't afraid to put their mental health on the line for it. Sad but true.
As an artist u rly sometimes have to realize that money and art dont always work together and sometimes its more important to stand up for yourself than chase a dream. That dream isnt worth it when it crushes whatever made your connection to art so strong. As a musician i had to accept that its a hobby while i spend my time doing something else thats equally fulfilling for work.
If I’d guess, the straw that broke the camel’s back was that the two biggest fights so far in the Shibuya arc were placed before and after the series finale of AoT, and because of these back to back to back important projects the flood gates opened
Please don't take this the wrong way, but you're wrong. The team working on AOT that is led by Director Hayashi is completely independent from the team working on JJK that's led by Animation Producer Seshimo. The omly reason that caused JJK production to nearly crash is verys simple; HORRIBLE schedule not fit for even a 12 episode season let alone a 22 episodes one. I know people online want to find more complex reasons, but the reality is that simple; animation takes time.
@@scythe9734 I believe it's actually closer to 8 months for when they REALLY were able to start working on it. Though there are some episodes that were in production before that point though (like EP16)
Passion and patience are tools to making beautiful art. But MAPPA CEO's greed took away those tools. It is truly sad and that greed is poorly packaged donkey crap
So easy to blame management. I wonder how many caring individuals on this thread pay for their content. Ppl complain about sweatshops but they still shop for the same cheap shit at Walmart.
@@DecaafTweakinuhh.. we’re talking about professional actors getting paid more then professional animators who probably put 5x the amount of effort to make something then actors.
These animators are creating some of the best series out there right now. They deserve reasonable schedules and generous pay for the remarkable art they produce on a daily basis. They deserve recognition and opportunity. The newbies deserve to learn what they're doing. The greed of MAPPA's executives (and many other studios', but especially MAPPA) is going to drive them into the ground. JJK isn't really my thing, but CSM definitely is. And when the director is harassed and the studio doesn't stand up for him and the staff are mistreated to the extent where many of them are leaving? Yeah, they've gone too far. I'm honestly very concerned for CSM season 2. I really wish Nakayama could take it to his new studio and have all the time he needs to work on it, but that's next to impossible.
I don't think people quite understand how lucky they are to live in superpower countries like the U.K and the U.S. The idea of being treated like these animators are is so unthinkable in these kinds of places that I don't think they understand that places like Japan do not have the same types of laws protecting citizens and workers. It's extremely sad that businesses can get away with running employees into the ground.
The cycle is repeating itself. It was Madhouse first, now it's Mappa, then there will be someone else. I just hope my favorite series will not be significantly affected because of this cycle.
I see so many people talking about this issue recently. Even a little bit a year ago, when some of the original stories came out. But at the same time this isn't just one studio. This isn't even just the animation industry in Japan. Japan as a whole and their cultpromote. This mentality at work that leads to overworking underpaying and overall people dying or getting sick from working too hard. Is it sad to see yes? Is it something we can do anything about probably not? At the end of the day even if these people leave studio mapa, they will never get another job in animation again. Japanese culture looks down on those who quit. Sometimes even your own family will look down on you for quitting a job. The evolution of loyalty to your Lord to modern day. Loyalty to your company. Japan has a lot of old mentality in their current modern society. That needs a lot of change. But it's not up to us to force that change. It's up to the people in Japan.
7:40 you don't get it. The hardworking Executives and Board Members made the anime so beautiful due to their sheer people power and wage theft prowess. Not the animators.
Here’s the thing, the whole studio can’t just shut down with its reputation, they’ll either get better conditions eventually or if they lose some shows, another studio will pick them up, so it’ll be kind of a net positive, I’m just glad they’re fighting back, which is my complaint to most online issues which is just sitting and taking it
This is the reason why I respect studio's like Ufotable they showed that they can put amazing graphics out there (Kimetsu no Yaiba and Fate stay night) they don't take a bunch of anime jobs that's why they can produce these types of animes
UFOtable really knows how to make the most out of one series. While it annoys me a bit how they drag out Demon Slayer, at least the animation looks good and they actually pay their employees.
I know a lot of people say this but this whole mess made me appreciate Kyoto and Ufotable even more both studios relase 1-2 series in a year but when they do they give their everything and you can see that in their works i just hope that the team there are getting a good pay and i hope mappa animators are getting the break and help they deserve, it sounds like a mental and physical hell with mappa's working style and its not a good thing to give your best in a corporation that doesn't even value their employees
Crazy ass CEO has more money than he can spend. Wants to make his company go big. Has some of the best talent. Easy 1. Delegate to experts and get some advisors 2. Reinvest profits into the company 3. Pay animators more Ancient wisdom Everyone has access to ancient wisdom through osmosis No one uses this
i like how you point out the minutiae of the animation, my friend and i noticed that the animation at times was so incoherent it just didnt seem realistic. for jjk that effect combined with the incredibly fast pacing made the show feel almost surrealist, which was honestly superb but now it has come back to earth and the hype suddenly isnt as strong for me
The most productive time in my life was when I put my health first. I woke up at the same time every day, went to bed at the same time, balanced my meals and took small breaks. Despite that I did about 14 hours per day 7 days per week for several months straight. It was the best time of my life. Now, my sleep schedule is a mess due to different work times, meals are no longer balanced and now I swear a small breeze will mess up my productivity. Sometimes fewer hours and stability will lead to FAR better results.
Honestly these issues already appeared as far as Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1. It had plenty of off model faces, same-face syndrome, lack of expression on faces in most scenes. No doubt it has gone on from the moment leadership changed, just masked better since animators weren’t completely burnt out yet. It’s disgusting to see the same issue in the west and east causing talented people to lose their passion. What makes it worse in Japan is the cultural taboo of showing any negative emotions in relation to your job or boss in public. The fact that these issues are talked about now means that this has been going on for decades industrywide.
I think eventually MAPPA will fall if changes are not being made. I just felt very sad for these animators who are putting up with this horrible working condition. It's really their passion that keep them staying and continue to work on the projects. I really hope some miraculous changes will happen so they can rest and produce the best work.
It's so stupid to see a lot of people on social media blaming all the problems on the fans watching the anime. The problem is not the we're praising the stuff the animators are putting out, the problem is a system that encourages this kind of exploitation and the laws that allow this kind of things to happen.
i would just ike too say many of the animators of the major fights in jjk s2 are done by freelancers that dont work specifically at mappa and vimcent chansard (a freelancer) said he will never work with mappa again
The break between episode 5 and 6 was always planned it was not strange. Also in those weeks 2 30 minute long recap episodes aired to help watchers remember what happened before we returned to the present.
What we got from jjk 2 was beyond fine. If the Sakuna vs Jogo fight wasn't their full vision then I don't know how they could improve upon it. Perfect to me.
Sukuna vs Jogo was executed it perfectly, though. Tsuchigami, the director for that episode, mentioned starting work on that episode way earlier compared to others in the season. It was the Mahoraga fight that was insanely rushed.
Ever since I started hearing of Mappa taking on a billion anime several years ago, I knew they would shoot themselves in the foot, and I found it really annoying how they were taking on all those projects at once...
Personally I had some real issues with some of the backgrounds in episode 18. While Mahito and Yuji are walking towards each other the hallway in the background seemed to majorly drop in quality from the previous scene. The rest of the episodes have been great. I really hope the conditions for the animators get better and I completely blame Mappa for these problems.
@@terencesdurag2823it isn't nitpicking... From episode 15 to 18 the animation looked extremely weird and sloppy... During some of the fights the angles are weird and you can't tell whats happening.
@@sub23DaRkNeSS How is episode 16 and 17 weird and sloppy? The entire sakuga community that debunks animation consider these two episodes to be the best animated episodes of JJK and for good reason, there were so many amazing cuts by the best talents in the industry. Also 16 was given priority in production time and the characters being shadowless and "low detailed" was an artistic choice made by many animators that would've been there no matter how good the schedule is because it's an artistic choice.
@@lazyworkingslothArtistic choice or compensation for lack of time? Don't dick ride MAPPA, most of their modern projects are super mid and the drop in quality from s1 to s2 in jjk is VERY apparent and jarring. This is of course not the animators fault and the blame lies on the greedy director. Honestly he deserves to lose everything and go flip burgers until he retires of old age.
@@Nikoncha"Most of their modern projects" Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga, JJK, etc.... Yeah, no, even when their schedule is fucked, most of their productions look good overall. And S2 is not a "downgrade" by any means, it actually improves on S1 in a lot of ways. Considerably more clever direction, great drawings courtesy of people like Souta Yamazaki and Sayaka Koiso, and a major upgrade on art direction and composite. Only a handful of episodes in Shibuya are actually bad. And yes, the shadowless look in episode 16 is completely intentional. It's a style of drawing called kagenashi, which a lot of directors use. Itsuki Tsuchigami who was responsible for this episode mentioned that he requested all animators involved to draw in that style.
I tend not to follow anime you tubers since most are just obnoxious loud people that cant actually come up with a good critique. This was a nice video however good job.
MAPPA seems to have forgotten there is no such thing as a MAPPA animation. There are thousands of animators who work for MAPPA, and when the next studio comes along to eclipse MAPPA they'll all jump ship. If things don't change, soon there will be no MAPPA, and the shareholders will be pissed either way. The only thing MAPPA has is irs animators, and nothing could be done without them.
I definitely think anime fan’s expectations have gotten way too high so they’ll never be satisfied with a lot of these current episodes anymore cuz they only ever want 10/10 in every second of animation. While I’m watching mainly for the story and characters overall rather than caring too much how it looked that deeply.
it's not even just us, even the people producing what we're watching aren't satisfied. it's definitely the poor choices of the people in suits, I mean for an episode to look as good as the mahogora fight and only be "30% of what we wanted to achieve" is absurd. if we gave them proper time the series could look even better most of the time. instead of this weird switch between some of the best looking scenes and just good looking scenes.
This guy doesn’t know about stylistic choices 💀. Also.. that effect was probably also intentional to bring out the sheer amount of realistic and random movements in the shot. Edit: some random guy liked this and I realised I made a mistake. Change realistic to “chaos” as it fits more accurately.
even as an indie animator from the uk , i can agree that the working conditions , even when you are solo and your own boss , is tiring and costs time and effort , no one should call animators lazy
Even in the jjk season 2 fights that were so good recently, I remember thinking that either the animation style or consistency of the quality was off since things were not as clear or easy to follow as in previous arcs. It reminds me of naruto shippuden and its inconsistency of quality as well
JJK really survived through hell without really getting hurt. AOT, CSM and HP was good but definitely could've been better if they were given more time. The animators of JJK are really amazing to give us such high quality
Even madhouse start getting recover from it past problems with making one or two new amazing anime every year like this year with yamada kun and frieren
I wouldn't say "recover" when generally speaking, the quality of their works are the same. Those two projects were made by people who already work at the studio for a while noe.
Annoying anime viewers who just complain don’t understand how much work these animators put in. It’s crazy how they call these animators lazy and says stuff like deal with it with these trash pay checks. And don’t even get me wrong with the ceo. He’s so greedy. In movie 0 it’s said that he only gave halve of the pay check he was supposed to. Mappa is gonna have to change no matter what. It’s bound to happen.
Thanks. I didn't realize Maruyama left. I was sitting here thinking "how is he letting this happen?" He's not. As for the kids that think the animators are "lazy"? What do you expect from geeks? They are devoid of empathy. Just terrible people who only care about what they want.
As an animation student myself, I highly relate to mappa and other anime studios. I think despite the outcome of the product, I think we all should thank and appreciate the animators that sacrifice their own time and energy to keep us entertained.
If I was directing a studio for a show, I would give them a shit ton of time for both quality and sanity. Probably why I'd want to be an animation director for my own LN when I get a chance for an adaptation
That's the problem about handing down your company to someone else, they'll so much monetize the company and forget about the vision and rules the company had before, like Apple, Mappa, and Boruto all followed in this trend 🤦♂️
This is not sustainable. I predict within the decade that there's gonna be a massive incident that's going to force more people to pay attention to these working conditions. There's no way this can continue, and the CEOS are too stupid to realize it. I encourage everyone to talk about it and spread the word. No human being deserves to be treated like this while making something that millions love. If you love these animes, you need to speak up for the ones making it.
I honestly hope we don’t get a JJK episode so that the animators can have a break. I hope and prey that the animators get paid better and are able to visit their families.
Production Committees are terrible, and the sooner they disappear, the better. I love that MAPPA went out & bucked the trend with Chainsaw Man, but it's unfortunate they put their animators through hell by having them work nonstop on it + multiple other projects just because they took on so much work.
Man...if Americans had the same working conditions like Japanese people...there'd be a revolt. It's insane the kind of work culture in Japan still continues. People literally die from overworking over there and sleep on the streets just to go back into work...its insane and I feel so bad for animators over there.
as a student who just got into a college to get an animation diploma this sounds like torture especially knowing that animation is my number one course to take and anime is one of the reasons why i wanted to enroll in it to me this sounds like a poor way to treat people who are the ones that pushes the money into your wallet and not even care at all about their own life and existence i feel bad for the animators who has to suffer these pressure and hate in all the wrong reason.
I actually like the anime style of hell's paradise i don't mind a dip in quality if it means i don't have to wait 3 years just to finish an anime series however if i have to wait for an anime than i expect it to look halfway decent but that's just my preference to each their own
I should also say I would like Mappa to use AI and still pay the animators a fair share and plus we would still need the animators to fix any problems with the ai. So what I'm saying is I don't want Ai to take over the anime industry or anything I just think it's a good idea to use Ai to help reduce the overall workload
I know what he's saying but at the same time... bro thinks these series are suppose to maintain the same quality throughout its entirety. No anime is like that. The beginning episodes are usually the highest quality. The animations were still good. He's knitpicking
At one point they had a WEEK to finish an episode before airing it. A WEEK. I can't even imagine how they would get that finished at all, let alone the quality that it is. Big props and respect to the animators for making something so beautiful in an INCONCEIVABLE amount of time!!
Damn. In JJK, you can see in season 3 that Jogo versus Sukuna was really good, but from what I say is that Mahito versus Yuji drops to many uhhh... slowdown frames or whatever.
“They lazy and greedy” bruh they goofy ahhh would freak if your boss said that to them about a pay raise. The argument makes no sense when you put yourself in this situation.
Thats how it is for anyone involved in anime/manga production. underpayed and overworked. Its an industry problem due to tight schedules for production and taking on too much workflow at once. Mappa is particular is getting the spotlight on them since they sucked up alot of the hype franchises lately and while i agree with the video, nothing will change because as stated its an industry problem. everyone bids on the license for X series, so Mappa with its deep pockets grabs the best series. they cannot give animators more time since they are under contract to get X out the door by Y time. so the only two solutions is. 1. don't take on so a workload aka leave money on the table so no 2. hire more animators. possible, you can have them do supplemental work that they can do with very little training until you can properly train them to deliver the quality you expect.
This is a clear problem showing Japan's classic workspace culture. I'm talking about in-house staff. As anime fans we have been eating so good thanks to these animation wonders. These animators should suffer through this cycle to build credit (exposure lol) and afterwards, especially when working as animators for multi-season series, go on to work freelance and set a rate that's worth the effort. Like other commenters said, these animators need to push out their DOMAIN EXPANSION and know that they are needed. No. Necessary. Sure there will be backlash and they will hire others, but once they need you; they WILL hire you. Look up other animation studios struggling with deadlines and EVERYTIME they hire freelancers / talent. This even happened this the original Evangelion; they got Glibly; yes fucking Glibly, to do an episode for them. I want this trend of 40+ shows a seasons to end. Most of them are barely profitable or worthwhile. Use that talent else were. Bring back more anime only originals. The money is there to bring a renaissance of the golden age. It's just how you spend it.

30% of the ep was completed lmao that amount of times I've heard that is unreal. That wouldn't even be past layouts and storyboards, the misinformation is crazy, although the animators may not have completely realized their final vision a lot more than 30% of the ep was finished.
@@beep1799that is simply not true lol. there were a few missing transition cuts and a few in-betweens missing for some scenes that statement about the ep being only 30% complete is so wrong I'm surprised people were dumb enough to believe it. yea i agree i think it was exaggerated. think they said 30% so fans would say something to MAPPA about wanting to see the completed thing if they gave their animators more time.
The tweet where that statement originally came from was later deleted by the animator whi podted it vuz they admitted that it was an exaggeration and yhe episode was in fsct 70% finished
the video literally says "only 30% of their vision was realized". this means that they had much bigger artistic ambitions and an extensive vision when conceptualizing the episode, but only 30% of it actually made it into the episode, which is very depressing, yeah. imagining how many creative ideas they had that had to be scrapped because of the tight schedule is upsetting, because the episode is really good, but it could have been so much better. this applies to basically the entire season after the hidden inventory arc.

@@Psychx_

I think every show should be given minimum a year to be worked on and to only be released, if all the episodes are already finished. If not then delay,a good animated show delayed will be more profitable in the long run than a rushed badly animated show
100% agree
One Punch Man (season 1 specifically) is a fantastic example of this
It was made in a little over 12 months with a staff of talented animators and director Shingo Natsume
OPM was only 12 episodes and they had a year to produce it
JJK S2 is going to be about 23 episodes and from what I’ve heard they only had 9 months to produce most of season 2 and we’re now seeing the cracks show, it’s so sad
Ideally a 23-25 episode season should have minimum 18 months or an average of 2 years for the production cycle
its literally not "more profitable in the long run" though, pretty much the same number of people watch it regardless, especially if its a 2nd season onwards. we will complain about the bad animation online, but realistically it doesnt make a difference & delays cost insane amounts of money. theres a reason why this issue keeps happening, bad animation IS the most profitable option
Japan operates on the value of scheduled tv timeslots. They get the slot first then place the anime there
@@BrandonBarnwell yes it actually is, think about it the better it is animated the more the fandom will like it and the more they will recommend it to new ppl trying to get into anime and this will bring more potential customer for the bluray and more publicity for mappa

Can you believe we got :
Chainsaw Man last Fall.

Everyone was making compilations of wonky Mikasa faces and weird Beast Titans ... Who would've imagined that the problem would be so deep ?
I think eventually MAPPA will fall if changes are not being made. I just felt very sad for these animators who are putting up with this horrible working condition. It's really their passion that keep them staying and continue to work on the projects. I really hope some miraculous changes will happen so they can rest and produce the best work.
It's so stupid to see a lot of people on social media blaming all the problems on the fans watching the anime. The problem is not the we're praising the stuff the animators are putting out, the problem is a system that encourages this kind of exploitation and the laws that allow this kind of things to happen.

Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga, JJK, etc.... Yeah, no, even when their schedule is fucked, most of their productions look good overall.
Great video, you earned a subscriber! You should cover more stuff inside the anime industry!
You could literally see when they ran out of time in the maharaga fight. Everything just suddenly turned into story board sketches.
That was literally intentional for artistic effect. Stop talking about stuff you don't know.

Mappa be pissing me off. Yuri on ice is what made them big enough to even TOUCH the likes of Attack on Titan, JJk, Chainsaw man. LIKE MAKE THAT DAMN MOVIE ALREADY
I doubt we'll ever get that movie (sadly), however, I hope we do 😥
30% of the ep was completed lmao that amount of times I've heard that is unreal. That wouldn't even be past layouts and storyboards, the misinformation is crazy, although the animators may not have completely realized their final vision a lot more than 30% of the ep was finished.
if you watch the episode, there are parts that are just colored layouts and storyboards...
@@beep1799that is simply not true lol. there were a few missing transition cuts and a few in-betweens missing for some scenes that statement about the ep being only 30% complete is so wrong I'm surprised people were dumb enough to believe it. The animator said 30% intended vision which is not the same as 30% complete also the statement was exaggerated and was later deleted when he got called out by other animators who worked on the episode.
yea i agree i think it was exaggerated. think they said 30% so fans would say something to MAPPA about wanting to see the completed thing if they gave their animators more time.
It cannot be that hard to give the animators more time to work and raise there pay
I agree with all of this, tho I think hell's paradise is really damn good despite its flaws
Maybe I have low expectations but I rarely think anime looks bad lol
Bro go watch Rage of Bahamut and Rage of Bahamut Virgin Soul. The fact they aren't shown in this video is a sin. CGI aside, It was MAPPA's peak before Jujutsu Kaisen.
its so weird how they peak in quality when they at the bottom of morale and sanity
The robot fight in the start of shipuya arc feet unfinished to me it feels like something is missing between every cut and another
I hear tekken 4 ost I like
JJK season 2 animation has dropped A LOT last few episodes compared to the start and not as many people are talking about it, glad you mentioned it and made this video.
Ngl im surprised that it took so long for them to start realizing in what horrible conditions they work
So sad :/
I low-key like the rougher style of animation it fits the theme of the arc
if they dont pick up anymore animes i think theyll be alright , with the end on AoT and if they slow down just a bit , we can still get great animation ,
so basically described in 1 word : slavery but with peanuts instead of whips noted bruh how is dumbo the elephant still getting away with this how come the animators dont sue the ceo if they are not getting paid even half of what they were promised or work way overtime to get episodes from 6+ series out for us...like damn this is the definition of misery
14:07 you are affected by naobito's jujutsu
7:55 yeee thats litteraly big game company approach to their staff
The education promotion at the end was exceptional.
