It’s already been 16 years since the passing of Jerry Goldsmith in 2004 and he’s still very much missed in the film industry and movie fans everywhere!🌈
In 1982 Sylvester Stallone received world wide recognition as action-hero John Rambo, but "First Blood" is surprisingly not one of the typical Hollywood action spectacles of the time. Of course it had action and violence to a degree, but watching it for the first time one is especially stunned by the movie's emotional ending, without having a supervillain die in a spectacular way (well, does the movie has a real villain, anyway?), leaving the audience behind - feeling and thinking... The music by Jerry Goldsmith is the cherry on the cake. The movie starts with Rambo walking down the street to the cue "Home Coming", which illuminates the (character's) emotional background. The incidental music is used carefully (the complete music used in the movie runs only about 45 minutes) and just where needed to support suspense, action and in first place emotional scenes. Because of copyright reasons the well known song "It's A Long Road" (performed by Dan Hill) couldn't be included here, however Goldsmith's unused but striking isntrumental for the end credits can. Enjoy!
Isn't it called by composers "shoe leather music" for character to just walk from A to B and have the music accentuate the internal life of the character(s) on screen? Jerry did this type of composition better than any other.
Cus it was based on a Novel depicting a Veteran suffering PTSD which this movie portrayed, especially the end scene where Rambo breaks down finally. So it had a good source material, the rest was just hollywood making Rambo another action stud for money.
Agreed. I always thought to myself that, as much as I like may enjoy them, the sequels kind of diminish the classic status of First Blood. They're also the reason why people tend to forget Stallone was and can still be a great dramatic actor in the right circumstance.
BS ! Rambo First Blood Part 2 was a world wide hit that made millions. First Blood will always be special to me because of the premise of that film. Rambo 2 brought entertainment, testosterone for all heterosexual red blooded males . It showed the super soldier in action!
I notice Rambo popping up in a lot of conservative memes "back in my day, Rambo was our hero and we taught boys not to be sissies" or "who wants the draft back? Raise your hand" It's ironic, because Rambo (at least the first movie) does not glorify action and violence; the entire movie depicts the tragedy of war and abandoning people whose only skill is violence.
Great Memories of plying the Soundtrack LP on my mother's Record Deck. She would always tell me off for having the volume to high for for the bits of music that go quiet and then loud again in the Forrest. One of my all time favorite Soundtracks and I'm now 53. The 80s were just the best for Movies and their soundtracks 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎬😎
The french horn is an instrument I really miss in modern cinema. You heard it in a lot of movies and TV shows made before the 90's then it went away. We need it back along with full orchestra's.

Thank you Fred. Your suites are one of the reasons I always look forward to Fridays. This one does not disappoint. Goldsmith is always good. I look forward to dissecting (in a good way) today's submission.
A defining action movie for the era and to this day one of the more politically charged pieces of hollywood entertainment. The raw and outdoorsy design was followed by strong acting, Laszlo's earthy cinematography and Goldsmith's superb blend of orchestral aggressiveness and melody. One of my favourites in genre movies and adventure/thriller scores. Nice complation.
Adam driver as Rambo? Kurt Russell as Teasel ? Personally I think a Tarantino remake that stays faithful to the book would be amazing , a one and done film , with an entirely different Rambo and Teasel , no wounding the officers , and Troutman doing what he has to do , even though his heart doesn't want to
Rambo is a completely different movie from the sequels. The book ends with the death of Rambo and is a story about a soldier with tightly corseted PTSD that is finally given full expression by the end of the film. The action scenes drive the narrative but are not the focus of the movie.

The movie ending is different from the book. There John Rambo dies.

Thank you for posting this instrumental masterpiece.
The instrumental is better anyways.
Sheriff Teasle is the real villain, not Rambo. The end credits song features lyrics by South African born writer Hal Shaper.
The first film is a completely different beast to the rest of them and the music shows the emotional confusion which lurks in the narrative

I Love first Blood but I can't watch the others. Little known fact Kirk Douglas was going to play Trautman but pulled out at the last minute
True.

Masterpiece by Jerry Goldsmith.
With Police Story.
Jerry Goldsmith presents the human being John Rambo: lost, sad, tired and lonely. Wonderful.

Raise your hand" It's ironic, because Rambo (at least the first movie) does not glorify action and violence; the entire movie depicts the tragedy of war and abandoning people whose only skill is violence.
There are moments in this score that are some of the best in Jerry's career. I love this soundtrack dearly. Thank you Soundtrack Fred!

Thank you very much and just the best to you!
First blood is one of the greatest movie's ever made. Stallones depiction of a troubled veteren is superlative 😊 thanks for upload.

Wonderful movie and great sound thanks.
Wow!!! Fantastic score by Maestro Jerry Goldsmith. That is real music from a class AAA-composer and not like the holy synthi-shit from Zimmer and Co.
Great soundtrack, Great Movie, Great actors …!!! Rambo ❤❤❤❤❤
Fantástico trabajo de Goldsmith
Colonna sonora stupenda!!
El gran Jerry Goldsmith, uno de los 10 más grande en la composición de música para el cine, saludos
Excellence. Pure excellence.
"There are no friendly civilians.."
Ich weiß nicht, auf welcher Seite Sylvester Stallone steht? Die Musik ist schön und passend in dieser Zeit
🇺🇸LEGENDARY🇺🇸

Oír ese intro es volver a los cines en 1982
Well this is pretty
One of my favourite all time film composers and very underrated and also way better than john(Spielberg)williams.
3:17 muito bom
rambo is the best movie ever
Hay guerras que no interesan acabar
3.05 - 3.11 Sound "koing kong^^ kouing kong^^"
Rip Delmar Berry.
This movie had too much mindless violence for me but the music by the maestro more than made up for it.
Perhaps. But i think it's important to note that only one person died in the movie, and Rambo didn't really kill him.
Verga de música. Chingona !!👍
Please can you post the video...
John Rambo big Rambo
he just wanted to eat

Would be nice if they still use this score for it but yeah will they have the balls to make it literally faithful to the book?
Scott Glenn as Trautman!
