The man who scored: Alien,Rambo, western cow-boys,the Anti-Christ,Gremlins, Schwarzy, Nazi hunters,Apes , Noir detectives,Dante's Looney tunes ,Poltergeists, the return of Norman Bates(one of my fav) and so ooooon !!!, he could do anything, perfect name for a pure MAESTRO.
I played this soundtrack to death on my Walkman in the 80s along with Top Gun. I was already a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith's music having First Blood and Supergirl soundtracks on LP already. I'm now 53 and Still Have Rambo : First Blood Part 2 in an Expanded Version of the soundtrack on CD. Great Memories 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😎🎬
@@williamjhughes9460yeah so true. I also feel like this score expands and evolves just like the character does. Gotta love how Jerry adds those Asian sounding moments. Just brilliant stuff!
Just imagine the process of shooting and editing this film, and then a Master like Jerry Goldsmith makes your film come alive even more. That must be so rewarding.
Thanks Fred. Brilliant Music By Jerry Goldsmith. RIP Sir. Your music was incredible. I grew up with Rambo, miss the 80s. The world today is never the same. Syl Stallone is my favourite action star. Sadly these great actors are all getting old. Rambo is my favourite of all time and will always be.
I'll always remember this soundtrack it's immersed in my heart. My late dad brought me to watch Rambo in the movie for the first time in 1988. It's really made me impressed.
Jerry's score for the 3 Rambo movies were so legendary that its almost like you didnt hear much from the last 2 movies that he didnt score due to his unfortunate death. Rambo 2 had so many blazing themes for the jungle Rambo had to do battle in,all in accordance to Jerry's superb scoring! Among the many highlights of Jerry's outstanding career!!
For me, the art of this opening theme is to be heard in the competing and yet complimentary melodies; that of the heavy, almost militaristic orchestra emphasizing the drums and percussion, the brass and strings that meet the beautifully simplistic and reverberating chime of what sounds like a Guzheng. It is as though these two melodies are almost calling to eachother which, keeps in mind the story of the lead character for whom the Vietnam conflict is both an old wound and a melancholy stirring to return. An absolute masterpiece of composition from one of the greats.
Yeah, the good old days, when a man was a man and a woman was a woman. Not like today, when biological males get to dominate biological females in organized sports. Of course, the reverse has never been the case for some strange reason!
You can definitely hear the frenetic nature of John Rambo's mind in this suite. It's full of stress. There are huge up's and down's which all occur with PTSD. Jerry was definitely a musical genius when it came to getting across a very specific atmosphere and he was also to completely nail the characterisation and microscopic details of individuals. The first 6 minutes of this takes you on a massive ride that's full of raw emotion.
This is one of those scores where the perfect marriage is formed between story telling of what is seen on screen, and music. You can’t imagine one without the other.
Those movies were all masterpieces. Every time I want to enjoy good memories I just and play First Blood...so underrated. To me Sly was at his best doing the Rambo saga than Rocky...but this is only my humble opinion.
Though one of my personal least favorite Rambo films, the soundtrack for this film is yet another outstanding score by the master himself. Thank you so much for putting this together! The blending between the tracks is superb and the song choices really showcase Goldsmith's best work. Thanks for all your hard work!
This and the first one are my favourites. I love the music that opens First Blood (1982) as well. My mother is a musician and she knew and I met someone when I was a kid who played lead Trombone on the soundtrack for Rambo 2. So when u hear that big, booming theme it was probably him lol!
Three weeks ago, we featured Jerry Goldsmith’s thrilling, yet emotional score to the Sylvester Stallone classic “First Blood” (1982) here and we will now continue a dive through classic Goldsmith-action-scoring with the next installment of the Rambo series with “Rambo - First Blood Part II” (1985), which in comparison to its predecessor comes closer of being a Hollywood-action spectacle, however still with having little moments accompanied by emotional music like “Ambush”. Although John Rambo gets a new theme for this movie, “It’s A Long Road” still appears in subtle moments. Enjoy! P.S. For those who are interested; The “Gunboat”-cue had a slightly minor and ‘dusty’ sound quality to it (and seemed to interrupt a fluent listening experience), compared to the other cues from the PCM 1610 digital mixes, to be found on Intrada Records’ splendid two-disc release of Goldsmith’s entire score. So, for this video it got replaced with the 35mm three-channel mix, which can be found on disc two. While sounding also clear (almost like the PCM 1610 first-generation master elements, thankfully) it seems a bit ‘flat’, if you like to listen closely. I know there are some interested techies out there! :-)
My younger brother Jay pointed out to me many years ago how similar the opening theme is to Ennio Morricone’s theme to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. And it is!
Hello there, this cue was indeed taken from Disc 1 of the Intrada 2 Disc release. As all the music here, it was ripped from CD into digital lossless audio format (flac). But maybe some magic happened while rendering the video. Maybe UA-cam itself did some magic while rendering the video while it's been uploaded. Heard that happening several times. Best! Fred
Hallo! Gut, dass du es erwähnst! Es hat sich um einen Fehler gehandelt, der unbemerkt blieb. Dank dir kam ich dahinter. Wer weiß wie viele andere schon bei dem Anblick die Stirn runzelten. Jerry Goldsmith's action music is on a whole different level. The whirling strings, the ever changing rhythms, the way he uses and melodies.

In Parts of it Yes. But what I love about First Blood Soundtrack. The Music Goes Loud and Quiet when Rambo in Attacking in The Forrest 🎬
