During WW2, Graham Greene & Kim Philby worked together for MI6. The name "Harry Lime" is an amalgamation of their names: "Harry" is Harold A. R. Philby while "Lime" is Greene. The real black market activity in post-WW2 Vienna was espionage.
To keep myself awake on winter evenings driving home I played a tape of this and cranked up the radio and hummed along loudly. Never fell asleep at the wheel.
I LOVED The Third Man film so much. Had a crush on Joseph Cotten and used to yell at the screen when the lady his character liked walked by him instead of joining him as she was still loyal to Harry Lime. Great memories of that wonderful film and its music. Great job on that beautiful instrument!
Incredible! So virtuosic, and yet so beautiful and, after all, simple to hear. Immense effort, but carefully hidden in order to let the music talk without obstales.
¡¡ FELICITACIONES A QUIÉN CON SUS MANOS MÁGICAS HACEN VIBRAR A LOS OYENTES!! ESTE TEMA QUE MARCÓ UN HITO EN LA PELÍCULA DEL MISMO NOMBRE ""EL TERCER HOMBRE,""NOS TRAE A LA MEMORIA AL INEFABLE ORSON WELLES.!! GRACIAS!!
VERY GOOD i bought a100 year old concert zither to restore and try to learn but its harder than the guitar 🤣 I LOVED Anton Karas and the movie. Karas was treated terribly and paid very little for making the music for the fim he died in poverty 😢😭
That's so terrible! The zither music set and sustained the mood so perfectly for that wonderful movie. It was so important they actually showed the instrument being played at the start of the film.
one of my favorite songs ! thank you for playing it ! the instrument appears to be vintage from the decal , but looks as new .. this a zither with a complementary 5 string fretted neck , correct ? who is the maker , and what exactly is it called ? thank you !
Busque el nombre del instrumento y se llama cítara. En lo que tengo dudas es si la original tiene ese puente de guitarra, porque hay unas que no tienen esa parte.
When i saw the film ”Third Man” first time back in the 80’s i thought ”this band plays so well together”. Then my father told me that it’ s just one man who plays the music…I didn,t believe first. 😄
@@tsavy7320 cool, thanks for the reply. So many instruments I've never seen, that I always wonder if they are unique or not. Interesting video to watch, have a good evening.

LOVE THE TUNE AND THE SOUND OF THE INSTRUMENT. TAKES GREAT SKILL TO PLAY.
Bravo,i never tire off listening to this piece, and off course the film.
My uncle used to play that it's been years since I've heard it but when I did it made me cry.
I think many people don't realize, this takes immense practice and finger coordination.
Unless you ever tried to learn to play an instrument .
I think it’s quite obvious to anyone watching this to be honest
@llRoBoBinHoll not necessarily. Non musicians often don't notice such things.
That's a beautiful atoharp.😊❤
I love this. The instrument is amazing.
The best music never dies...

That is truly sad because it is one of the greatest film-scores ever made in movies history.

WONDERFUL!!!
Amo questa musica perché mi riporta nel bel tempo che fu.
You can't better Anton Karas. He had the feel and Spirit of old Vienna.
Stupid
what
That's amazing!
Awesome!
How many people knew what song this was from the title? Thanks for a wonderful video.
Bravo!!
Two different hands are playing..

This is ”Horst Wünche” zither. Made in DDR. I dont know the year of manufacture, but it is very good zither.
A nice introduction to a zither. Had heard of the word but had no connection to what they looked or sounded like. Thank you.
If you play the video at 1x25 you will hear it at original speed
awesome 👌 👏 Bravo
that is a beautiful instrument
👍🎶👍🎶👍🎶👍🎶👍🎶👍🎶👍
Thank you for this video !!! What tuning is it, münchener or wiener ? Thanks again.
It is Viennese-tuning. 👍

Actually thought this was 2 instruments (or more) when I first heard it.

Is it a "one off" instrument or it is a traditional instrument from a country?
Zither is traditional instrument from the southern Germany and Austria. And around that area.

Q es? No conosco el unstrumento se oye bonito
thank you! it's a zither
It’s called a zither
What is that instrument?
That is the Zither.
this sounds similar to catfishing from SpongeBob LOL
That is true! There is a similar sounding theme in it! 😁
You do realize the 44th string is out of tune .
Talented this guy might be, Anton Karas he is not and it's sadly out of tune.
Sorry don’t like it. You need more practice.
Definitely!👍
Sorry, but god thats awful.
I think you're wrong. But if you feel that way, why disparage someone's playing? Please post a video of whatever instrument you play.
