    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Bernie (Angela Bassett) ransacks John's closet and burns his clothes along with his car.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    A surprise Hollywood hit, this film is based on the novel of the same name by Terry McMillan and centers on four well-to-do African-American women and their relationships with men and one another. All of them are "holding their breath" until the day they can feel comfortable in a committed relationship with a man. Robin (Lela Rochon) is the long-time mistress of Russell (Leon), who keeps reneging on his promise to leave his wife for her. She dumps him to find a man she can have to herself, but her dates with a reliable but unattractive business partner (Wendell Pierce) and a drug addict (Mykelti Williamson) send her back to Russell. Savannah (Whitney Houston) is a successful television producer who also believes that her married lover Kenneth (Dennis Haysbert) will leave his wife. Bernadine (Angela Bassett) is a wealthy woman who abandoned her own career to raise a family. Her husband is now leaving her to marry a white woman. Gloria (Loretta Devine) is a beauty salon owner and single mother raising a teenage son. After years alone, she falls in love with a new neighbor, Marvin (Gregory Hines). The women share their stories over lunches and conversations at Gloria's salon.

      @dragondancer1814 4 роки тому +47

      KatKost I’ve had a similar event in my life! Before my husband came into my life, I spent 3 1/2 years devoted to a man (even got engaged, but told him I wanted to finish getting my bachelor’s degree before planning marriage), only to find out from his MOTHER he was engaged to another woman at the same time a week before I was a bridesmaid at my best friend’s wedding! To make matters worse, I even found their engagement announcement in the local paper for the county where his other fiancé lived!
      I didn’t burn the stuff he had left at my apartment, but I sure wanted to! Instead, practicality and sanity prevailed-I sold what could be sold, and his clothes ended up in a Goodwill donation box at the mall. The ring he’d given me was later used for a down payment on the ring that my husband gave me, and we just celebrated our 20th anniversary this year. So if I ever bump into my ex again, I’ll flip the script and THANK him for being a lying, two-timing, chickenshit Mama’s boy!

      Wow! Way to go on generalizing all black women over a movie lol. This comment is not racist at all. Sorry to bust your little bubble, but all women from all races get cheated on, not just black women. And each woman reaction is different from the other (whether black, white or Asian). If you have issues with black women, deal with it and deal with your anger, hate or whatever you have there - bc it seems there's alot of judgment on this subject on your end, and especially black women. One or 5 black women reaction or attitude is not all black women attitude toward life or relationships. Life is full of backstabber, cheaters, liars, etc...They come in all colors and sizes - who deserves to be cheated, hurt, backstabbed bc theyre outspoken?. Best wishes

      C Aubrey your vocabulary is not that bright. First of all the word generally means "generally" not all.
      Secondly this is just a scoach of how black women used to clown black men in the media. They got on the Phil Donahue show, Rowanda Show, Ricci Lane, Steve Harvey, Queen Latifah, Wendy Williams, Rapheal all of the same rhetoric on national TV that *black man ain't shit!*
      Oprah built an Empire off of this she still is going around today saying that black men are too weak and intimidated if women in their 40s can't find a man

    • @colbalt95
      @colbalt95 7 років тому +1

      Joshua Goodlow this film crosses race and culture lines all women can relate on some level. This is exactly what I wanted to do to my ex after he cheated on me so many times and basically was too busy out and about to settle for family life with his daughter and I do I left best decision I ever did it’s taken all this time to get my life back. All the stress and pain I got an auto immune illness that was the cost

    I am going through the betrayal of my husband of 10 years abandoning me. He left and won’t come back. He can’t even look me in the eye. He refuses to see me. On top of that he is constantly cheating on me so I can divorce him. He literally schemed to get out of the marriage. He is not the same person I married and he is a complete stranger now. When I tell you the emotional trauma this man is putting me through I thank god everyday I have the emotional spiritual and physical support that is literally keeping me out of the looney house. I felt exactly how she felt in this scene even though I didn’t burn anything LOL. But I am starting to realize that I loved that man more than I loved God and myself and that was a problem. If he wants to destroy his life that’s on him. I have to be patient and let him reap what he is sowing. In the meantime I am maintaining but I honestly think I will have to attend therapy because this experience traumatized me. I know there are good men out there but going through this will cause you to doubt that. The pain of infidelity is so large. I also struggle with knowing this is not my fault. I also struggle with half of an income now. But I know that I will overpower this and see him leaving as a blessing. But because I invested so much time into the marriage it hurts!
