Oscar Winner Brendan Fraser Speaks with Obesity Advocates

The OAC would like to thank Fraser for taking the time to connect with our volunteers about their experiences with obesity. Before the film’s production, A24 engaged OAC to share insight into the realities of living with obesity. Fraser was highly receptive to our feedback and did a remarkable job in his role as Charlie, representing someone with severe obesity in a way that is realistic and respectful. His powerful performance portrayed many of the most challenging aspects of living in a larger body and showed several ways people react to being negatively judged for their size.
The OAC would also like to thank Fraser for being a passionate advocate for those living with obesity. In interviews promoting “The Whale,” Fraser has spoken publicly about weight stigma and the challenges people with obesity face when trying to access obesity treatment. We are grateful to Fraser for championing our mission to eliminate weight bias and improve access to obesity care.
