I watched every episode of Hey Dude as a kid, and you know what? I can’t remember anything. Not one episode. Not one plot line. His name was Danny? MR. EARNST! That just came to my head. Maybe I smoked too much…cigarettes in high school. The one thing I did remember, though, because we constantly made fun of stuff we used to watch, was the theme song. We even made our own lyrics! I won’t subject anyone to that kind of filth, but sufficed to say, it was good times. Great video! Glad he’s ok.
I vaguely remember two plot lines. 1. Mr Earnst’s son accidentally broke his dad’s credit card trying to open a door. Then at the end of the episode, he was saved when a replacement card arrived in the mail saying to destroy the old one 2. Mr Earnst hand carved a directional sign for one of the activity cabins and kept getting sidetracked every time he went to hang it up. Once he finally did, it was pointing the wrong way
Good to see he’s doing well. I watched as a kid and in the late 90s moved to Tucson. Surprised to learn recently that the filming location is only about 25 mins from where I grew up.
I would love to see it. There are a few UA-camrs that have done follow ups on the filming location. It’s still there just falling apart is all. Still would be cool to see.
Hey Dude was one of my favorite Nickelodeon shows back in the day. For many years I have wondered what happened to Joe Torres A.K.A. Danny. That's so awesome.
Im a friend of Joe's and he has always been a very humble guy. It's interesting to see how people react to him when they realize who he is, infact I'm one of them. It is very honoring to have him as my friend.
Yeah he always seemed like a good dude that love to laugh. I would love to know if he ever tried more acting jobs after Hey Dude or if he would even try now 💪
I've been rewatching the show as an adult, and it holds up really well. It just keeps reminding me how lucky I was to be in an age group that had fun to watch, tales of morality.
Dude we were super lucky with chunks of tv shows we had when we were kids. They were so good that parents are showing them to kids now and kids are loving them. 😝
Hahaha! Holy crap! The part about doing the rain dance was so messed up looking back now. Surprised there wasn't an episode about "Fire water" and casinos.
It's weird. Joe Torres and Josh Tygiel (Buddy's actor) both pretty much popped up and tried out for _Hey Dude_ on a whim. Then… nothing. Josh went into working for a background checking firm, but Joe just left to have a nice, quiet life. Funny how things work out. _It's also funny that I'm currently watching Hey Dude for the first time in 30 years and this pops up. Right after I watched Salute Your Shorts, not less._
Before smartphones were a thing, My Dad used to confidently tell my brother and I that Danny from Hey Dude was Danny Trejo 😂 my bro and I would try to enlighten him.. with you know.. age differences, they look nothing alike, etc.. but he was having none of it. To this day, I still like to think it’s the most underrated conspiracy theory of all time
Ha ha ha that’s too good. In the research many people thought Danny became the manager for the NY Yankees because they share the same name… but they look nothing a like 😂😂😂
Dude your channel is awesome me and my wife talk about growing up in the 90s all the time and the different shows we had and showing our kids.. are you going to do a video about the Nickelodeon Time Capsule??
All I remember is the time they had a fishing competion and Danny went to the store and bought fish fromm a grocery store and they decided that it counted as a win.
Love the screenshot at 1:38 of the debate over Brad’s vs Melody’s hotness. Speaking of, I had an old Sears catalogue when I was a kid that had Kelly Brown modeling bra and panties in the underwear section. It blew my adolescent brain!
how fast does time happen... we change so fast... bless to all the youths , but their time is running fast... i hope all do what they want to do in life.

@Wild Unknown, off and on over the past 6 months or so, I'd been watching clips of Redd Foxx's final sitcom, "Royal Family", and there's a beautiful actress named Sylver Gregory. But similar to Joe Torres, there is almost NOTHING I can find out about what happened to this lady after the show ended. At best, there are a couple of vague pictures of her as a stage actress, but that's it. Google searches don't reveal anything and neither does IMDB.
It's funny how people used to be able to just simply disappear. I know that the girl who played Brad at least has a presence online now, but hey... If Joe chose to not further pursue Hollywood, I can respect that choice.
he sounds exactly the same as he sounded on the show, i have to wonder if the writers used his real personality as a template for the character after the pilot and not him acting as the character
@ ah yes, he doesn’t say it but it’s clear that he was faithful to the script so it’s his natural delivery but their words. i guess they might have included some of his natural personality but he was just trying hard and they nailed his character profile early
@@Wild1Unknown I don't think I can post links. But the video is called: "The Splat Con Situation and Nickelodeon Get together Christine Taylor, Michael Ray Bower 2024 !!!" and he appears at 6:45 mark.
I remember the rumor when I was in middle/high school was that he had died of cirrhosis of the liver. …which is some casual racism now that I think of it.
Shame he wasn’t able to find more roles after hey dude but makes complete sense to me. Unless you were white or black in the 80’s early 90’s, you were very unlikely to be cast into any Hollywood film or show. Same thing happened to ke huy quan. Kid was in two big movies and then nothing until eeaao. Real shame that producers and directors were like that and to a degree, still are.
I wish they asked him more questions about this in the podcast cause it sounded like he just didn’t try to find more acting work after the show concluded. Like did he assume more work would just come his way or was he over acting? That’s what I wanna know.
I was worried he would have been involved in the darker side of Nickelodeon. People seemed to be surprised by everything that came out this year. Sadly, it was low end racism. At the time, they'd only use native people for cliche native characters. It's weird to think that the only context some people would have for native American culture would be the caricatures in kids shows.
@@HereForAStorm Oh good. I'm glad the first response is complaining. No. Really. I hate actual racism too and think modern complaints are unfounded or their own fault. In the 90s we had great truly diverse shows. But, oddly enough, the native characters had to be over the top "how white man" caricatures. Having grown up around natives and understanding that they're, believe it or not, normal people, I just think it's weird they're the ones that get treated this way. Almost like the creators have no idea what native American people are like. Although the monotone way they talk is spot on.
Yeah, they held him hostage for the show's run and forced him to do it. They were on a quest to end Native American representation. Then they deported him back to Mexico and whipped him with horse reigns when he tried to come back... that's why he disappeared until Joe freed him. 🙄🙄🙄
