- The Black Lord, Lord Bane, the Lord of Darkness, the Black Hand, the Dark One.
People who worship Bane are often targeted to be pure evil. No sound reason, just vileness, and spite for the lives of others.
Not so - The Dark One is about power and control. It is about ruling with an iron fist so that no weakness comes into your domain.
Highlights and clarifications on this video:
Most of the information is taken from the first edition book Faiths and Avatars.
It presents a far more logical explanation of how the church works, and why people would join his following. Faiths and Pantheons was also used, but this version of Bane is more warrior-like, trying to unify his power after his return.
I don’t think this type of behavior would be the Bane of 1491 DR.
This video is the perspective of a Black Fang of Bane. So, someone in a mid-tier ranking of a local temple. The evil is underplayed, and the positives are emphasized.
His goal is to recruit you as a follower, not to explain to you the worst parts of the faith.
This is the first episode of a series I hope to make, where I try to portray what a follower of a religion would behave like. - It is not about what the God does or wants, it is about how the followers behave and what they desire.

I'm concerned by how much I dig the church of Bane.
Have you accepted Bane as your personal overlord and master?
I'm usually a judge type LN type but I always found LE tempting. and since I started reading about Realms, Bane became one of my favorite Deities.
Also, I suggest "Red Knight" for next video. Daughter/Subserviant Deity under Tempus, she is really a noticable Deity. Or maybe "Kossuth" How can an Elemental Lord, become a greater Deity in realms? It is quite intersting topic. Especially if you think about it with capitalism & hierarchy of Thay, how they merge together, etc.
Bane is my deity right now. Evil God's can be risky depending on your DM. I've been cursed by Bane for being weak lol, now I have to keep Murdering people to keep myself sane and alive. He does come and beat the shit out of my enemies sometimes though.

Thanks for this video, Bane! I always thought of the church of Bane as a single unified body, but it make a lot o sense that a religion for the power hungry banites as something more divided in highly orginized sects with diferent points of view in the faith.
I have a evil paladin named Benif of Bane. Hes a dragonborn with a Warhammar that has the symbol of Bane in the center of the head

If you think about it Bane (Dark Knight Rises) would be perfect example of a Bane worshiper.
I think TDKR Bane would see himself more as a really extreme Lawful Neutral sort. Obviously he's Lawful Evil, but he identifies as "necessary" evil, so he's different from a typical Banite who, as the video says, are more about personal power. Helm or Hoar (who admittedly is / was an Exarch of Bane at one point) might be more to his liking.
Darth Bane from Star Wars might be closer to FR Bane ideologically, but he doesn't really "worship" anyone but himself.

Okay, that ridiculous list of titles had me laughing.
Bane likes bureaucracy. I would expect a "Junior, Senior, Assistant, Associate etc" tags to be in most of those titles in a major temple.

I came into the realm when Iyachtu Xvim was in his place, but even then I preferred him to Cyric. Bane's Dark Return was a welcome change.
Going to make a financial sacrifice to bane perhaps a beating can scheduled for this sanctimonious priest of torm. Muhaahaaahaa

Okay, pretty sure that the Church of Bane is not synonymous with the Zhentarim… Although, the Zhentarim is splintered by divisions within the Churches of Bane and Cyric? ….and, while I’m intrigued by the implications that the Church of Bane is essentially a Pyramid Scheme under the guise of a Religion, I’m pretty sure that it would be a great stretch of the imagination to call the goals of the organization the same as the universal principle of Selfish Gain as, “I progress the goals of the Church by progressing my own goals.” (With the subtext of the progressing the goals of those above you by progressing your own)

Sounds like my kind of church. Where do we meet?? That is, what are some good supplements (esp 2e and 3e) for Bane worship?? (I have played IWD2 to death but have recently modded and relabeled much of it with Symbaroum stats and abilities (to some extent). So now I am assembling a party of Dreuger and Gold dwarves, Illgoblins and Ogres too, and Bane shall be our guide to power and control of the Under-North. Better us than the demons).

How do you make your videos?
We have a group of 5. 4 of us research/write, 3 of us do vocal work, and 2 of us are editing wizards. It's a fairly arduous process, but we all love it.
Well, that hierarchy is far too convoluted and bureaucratic for my tastes.

Letting your adherents, even if it's only your more elite adherents, decide what their own titles are is where it become overly convoluted for me.
But I await the challenge.
IDK man. When ya compare Bane to things like Obox-ob, Pale Night, Demogorgon, Asmodeus, Ygorl, and Tharazdun, he just seems like a poser.

Yep, Bane pretty much thrashed the OG Goblin Pantheon and took over as the sole divine figure for most Goblinoids.

The Time of Troubles never sat well with me because Cyric sucks and Bane rules. I have abandoned all the official canon for the simple reason they killed Bane. So lame. Nope, I took the Realms back to the original grey 1E box. Fugh dat shite.
