- German VH-1 special from 1996: featuring David Sylvian, Mick Karn, Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri.
This is part 2 out of 4.
Exclusive footages appeared in this special like:
- David live in Berlin 1995
- Studio footage with Ryuichi Sakamoto (on Blue Of Noon!)
- Studio footage with Holger Czukay (Brilliant Trees recordings)
- unique interviews
I'm enjoying this and I don't even know a lick of German!! Though I really mean to start learning, and it was cool seeing Holger Czukay being interviewed -- I love Sylvian's collaborations with him and Robert Fripp! Anyway, thanks for uploading this! I wish Japan had become much more popular in the U.S. than they were (though I swear on everything I hold dear that I heard "Quiet Life" played on the outdoor sound system at the local venue where I was waiting to see Kraftwerk and I come from/live in **TEXAS**) and we could've gotten awesome music retrospectives like this cooked up for the band too. Thanks ever so much!
Thanks for uploading! Mick Karn interview 😍
I'd be so happy if i could understand these moments in time!
Together Japan were more special than they ever realised ,,, shame actually !!!
Dank u wel Mijnheer Gerrit Hillebrand!
THANK YOU !
Loved seeing those clips from the Berlin sessions. The clip where Sylvian is teaching Ryuichi something on the piano.....is it 'Blue of Noon'? Its quite difficult to hear properly.
Red guitar from his first album. 😊
That's certainly what the director has overdubbed leading into the scene, but the piano piece they're playing is not Red Guitar. I think it's an early version of Blue of Noon, around the bridge.
Instrumental, orchestral version of Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
4.01 ,Blimey its Robin Hood !
David Sylvian is so beautiful
I know! His beauty is astonishing. He’s incredibly graceful too with fluid movements.

Unusual to see David playing piano at 3:29.
Remember seeing him perform ‘Ghosts’ live on piano a few times when it charted. Very good. Satie influence is there on Nightporter too. So much talent and so eloquent.
Rare footage of Sylvo being nice on the studio*
is there a full version of the first 25 seconds?
