FWIW - EcoFlow River 2 units function just like a UPS backup. You leave it plugged in, it runs your devices via pass-thru. When power goes out, the battery instantly begins running your devices. When power later is restored, the EcoFlow reverts back to pass-thru. You never have to worry about it. It just works.
Great video as always. I spent a lot of time researching battery backup solutions for powerheads and agree the Ecotech offering is an expensive outdated solution. However the benefit of Ecotech's MP controllers is the 12v sensing backup port on the controller that kicks on as soon as power is lost. To rely on a human to physically be there, detect power failure, pull out a UPS backup and plug in your pumps isn't wise redundancy. It's also incredibly inefficient for a UPS to invert 120v to 12v power thus the 5-6 hour life you are getting. For $70 total on Amazon I was able to purchase a 20AH Lithium battery ($40), 12v Trickle charger ($20) and a 2 pack of 3.5mm 12v barrel plugs ($10). Plug in my new barrel plugs to the MP40 controllers and power both of my MP40's for 24+ Hours. Shockingly easy to wire, 10 minutes to connect the positive and negative wires to the terminals. This won't work for Jecod unless they have a backup 12v port, but for Ecotech it is a must cheap insurance.
Did you catch the pinned comment? It’s got great UPS functionality. I respect what you’re saying, but most people aren’t going to go after barrel plugs and trickle chargers and be up for figuring this out to that extent. If people opt for the DMP, generally they’ll just want a plug-and-play solution, so that’s what I covered on this. May well do a DIY battery setup in the future and cover that for braver folks like yourself! Any reason you didn’t roll with a LiFePO4 battery? Way longer battery lifespan over years.
Great review. Can the ecoflows stay plugged in and charging while the pump is plugged in? Or is it something you would have to plug in yourself when power goes out?
Dang it, I mentioned that in one of my 4 attempts to make this video, and forgot it for this version! Ha! Yes, the EcoFlow stays plugged in and provides pass-thru power. When power goes out, the battery automatically kicks on. When power comes back on, the pass-thru powering resumes. It functions just like a UPS unit, except this is way better suited to running pumps than traditional UPS units.
8:53 I use another backup because the ecotech wasn’t what I wanted, but it doesn’t have pass through power. Can I ask you what the white adapter is on the plug?
@ The white adapter is what came with the Jecod DMP unit I bought. I’ve ordered different power cords, so I don’t have to use it. All EcoFlow units support pass-thru power.
It should! I’d be surprised if it didn’t. The big question is: after it dies, and power is later restored, will it kick back in and resume powering a device that’s connected to it?

Love my river 2 refurb. Originally purchased for the tank and never made it into the tank. The wife and I love it around the house.
I’ve got a floater unit too! They rule!
@ I seriously want a big one! It’s so tempting!
I scooped a Delta 2 unit. It’s a total beast. 24 hours of runtime on my return pump lol

Thanks
NiiiiiiiiCccccccce!!!!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching, sir!
On the normal river two unit, you could probably convert the car port to DC for vortech pumps then you would have massive run time probably days
You can! I cover it in the video.
Can you reply back with a link to the Chinese adapter you are referring to for the ecotechs?
Interesting video, question. Can I permanently keep my waive maker connected to the back up battery and it.will run on battery during a power outage?
@@macy17250 Yep. Check pinned comment!
I've had good luck with my ecoflow river 2 pro
They are solid as heck. Everything I need it to be. Always works.

Thanks for the reply! That's a game changer for me!!
Dude thanks for the question! I’m kicking myself so hard for forgetting to mention it! I pinned a comment about it to help others. 😂

Have you ever tested a VorTech MP 10 on this battery backup or a similar 12 volt wave maker ? If yes how long did they last ?
I can do so quite easily!
@ I’m asking because I’ve a cheap battery backup that reefdork suggested and it can deliver power for my mp10 for over 24 hours
I currently have an anker 535. I'll have to verify if it runs pass through power like the ecoflows.
