Really awesome set up I’m running it on my tank made a few modifications. I believe all in all it ran me about $150 to set up.
Wow daily water change
I have a problem with the light i got a 14 pro max the american version with esim and i am from Romania and the light A8s just doesn t want to connect to it. I ve tried with a 15 pro max with sim and a 13 pro max with sim and a android it works on them. maybe test it with a esim iphone . Had the light for 7 months works good just using on my wife s phone :/. Also it doesn t update to the winter hour.
I’ve got an eSIM-equipped iPhone, I believe. I’ll test it out.
dose the xr30 slider fits the light?
Got one on the way. I’ll report back.
@ thank you
Did you do a par test !
Not yet! Busy time of year for me, but I’ll get there.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and family. Thank u for the video just received mine 3 days ago. It’s great
Same to you! Glad you like the skimmer! Mine is still cruising right along.
How do you get the app to work? I can't get it to save my settings
I’ll be exploring all that! Hopefully I can figure it out.
This is the company that makes the lights for echotech. They don't make there lights. It was cheaper for them to out source. The same with the. Cree leds was always made in China. All parts for you vehicle TV any electronic part are from China. The cree led mode is the better version and evern better the echotech version they make for them.
@@6jdhd EcoTech Marine does assemble their lights in Pennsylvania, but the components and parts are made in China. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those parts were made by the A8 company. A lot of IP gets replicated just due to American companies outsourcing production of everything.
In the process of checking this light out, could you possibly check to see if it will fit on a Radion mounting bracket? Thanks
On it. Got one ordered.
@@kalamazoo_reefer Awesome! Thank You 👍
Oke let me give u a longer term review… 1: that powersupply does feel good.. BUT the light is capable of maxing 210warr. The psu is NOT. It has a max output of 32v 6.25A thats flat 200 and when they heat up (and they will run scary hot when u drive these lights hard) it will under perform, and the lights will start to flash.. The meanwell offering is heatsinked and 240 total max output. Thats a LOT betrer choice Also when u run the blue/royal/uv or whatever channel on 100% for extendes period of time it will burn led clusters. All 3 of mu a8se have half of 1 colour cluster broken, or more. On my 5th led clister in total now.. They are great if: Under drive them, max them out at like 75% per channel or lower. Then these are fantastisc If u looking for a more reliable version get the x30 blue +. Or the a8s. Both come with cree diodes and meanwell powersupply (240w) they are a lot better than the cheapest a8se offering
Sweet. Thanks for the long term thoughts. I’ll push it a bit and see how it does, and likely advise folks to not roll above 75%, if they want to go with this cheapest option. The upgraded A8 has been explored pretty thoroughly, which is why I went for this one, to fill a gap in the knowledge base.
@ they are freakin amazing even at 75% and they are hella cheap.. depending where u got them from.. funktronics is really really nice for aftersale support and warranty!! They honor the warranty better than most local companies do
Kris Liu is really helpfull
Awesome been waiting for a video hope the next video is on programming
I’ll be looking into it! I hear a lot of mixed reviews on that part 😂
Radeon doesn’t come with Cree led either.
I was so close to buying these before the Gen 2 Nicrews came out. How would you compare the A8’s to the new Nicrew?
Haven’t tried this A8 yet, but I’d roll with the Nicrew. I think it’s objectively a stronger package.
I've been running 4 of the a8s over my 8x3x2 400g sps reef for over 4 months. No negative issue at all. Very powerful and great coverage.
How is the app? I have an a7 and couldn't figure how to connect and set.
It only takes 2.4 GHz connection, and the wifi password can only be alphanumerics
Brother man... I have some similar lights named Hiphen Aquatics ( X30 Blue+ 215W CREE LEDs Full Spectrum WiFi APP ) with a long silver color power supply, two days ago that use the same App Software, but is so confusing and frustrating. I am packing it up and returning it...Unless you figure out how to work that app, most of the app is written in Chinese. If you figure it out how to use it, especially to customize your own lighting schedule... I might keep it.
I hear you! I may find that the app is similarly brutal. No idea yet. Looking forward to digging into it! And if I can figure it out, I will certainly post a guide.
That uses the aipai app? I dont have issues with it.. The x30 blue+ is the way to go with these knockoffs, they are the only ones that now come with a meanwell 240 powersupply and cree diodes Both the chinese diodes die on the a8se when u run them hard (i jave 3 a8se and now on my 5th broken led board in total). Those chinese powersupply dont allow for max current when drivig them hard. Just do manual on the a8se and turn up all channels to 100% The psu will heat up and lights will start flickering. I have 3 of those units all have same I have 1 a8s (meanwell and cree). Thats been flawless
@@aronjanssen5702 How do you make your own schedule with that app?
Download a translation app onto your device point it at the Chinese instruction booklet and it should translate it for you. Hope this helps.
@lfc6times Thx, but the instructions I am referring to is in the App itself.
Awesome!!!
im just waiting for them to finally make the Jebao Neptune controller / KH monitor clone so i can finally afford all the tech....
Seems like they’re working toward such an end 😂
I contemplated the A8s or A8 pro but I ended up getting the Nicrew Gen 2 100w cause this light just seemed way overkill for my IM Nuvo 20
I think you chose the better package, friend.
can you do a video of it running please?
Of course. I’ll be doing several videos on it.
Dear, we have upgraded the PAR meter. It can test PAR as well as the irradiance power intensity of UVA(320-400nm) now. Do you want to have a try?
Thanks for making a8 video. I was thinking about grabbing one. I got 2 A7 and really happy with the quality and performance but apps sucks. They're probably the best value light on the market if you think about $/par.
For sure! Would you say the app is workable? I hear varying reports about it.
@kalamazoo_reefer I got earliest v1 a7 which is 3 or 4 yrs ago. The connectivity and apps are fine you just have to know time in China. Even the app is calibrated to my location it's not turning on and off with my settings. After a few days I realized the light is using time in China. Since then I set up with that and no problem. It's the first version. Don't know about the new apps.
i just ordered a8 pro, and its on its way here. i cannot wait to see you doing extensive review on this light. if i like the a8pro, i might as well replace all my kessil a360x with this one.
Oh well be deep diving, you can be sure of that!
Thank you for testing this light. I noticed on the quality control slip it has Jebao Co. Ltd on it.
I think I may have accidentally snagged one of my Jecod DMP QC cards. I had a bunch of them on my workbench. I had leafed through the instruction manual to make sure there was nothing critical in that, and I think one was stuck to it 🤣 Lots of AliE stuff floating around this garage!
Very interesting 👀 I’ll be checking in for a follow up
Also I meant to add- I bought the Jecod dmp 10 and I love it.. I noticed you got them to work on the random mode setting 😂 thanks for the content!
Absolutely! I have no plans of stopping. Love this hobby and love looking at and helping people with gear!
wow no reviews of these at all anyway! Would be good to know how usuable these are was thinking of getting a pair for a frag tank!
This’ll be a slow burn project through the holidays, but sit tight. More coming!
Runninf them for months on my full “acro and angel” 300gallon They are fantastic. U can head to head compare them to radion g5 pro. Same spectrum everything. Just dont run the a8se model above 75%. If u do want to do that get the cree version with meanwell powersupply (a8s) or even better the x30 blue +. For the price. These are unbeatable. Depending on the size of fragtank, also look at the noopsyche k7 pro. They are on black friday for 120$ each i beleive. Little less overal output but also a solid solid performer (i have all these light for over 6 months now)
All testing aside, the very best thing I saw when you pulled it out of the box is that the stupid power wire isn't attached and it's one of those shrouded connections.
Definitely. I added that bit on the end when I realized it. After you get that luxury with a ReeFi Uno, you start taking that for granted. I almost forgot what a great feature that is. They should all be made that way, industry-wide.
Yep...you got there at the end. Ha!!!
And it doesn't have one of those dumb wall wart connections into the socket that take up two slots!
The removable cable is a nice feature!
You need to try the k7 v3 from noops to compare for us budget reefers:)
I’ve been running the A7’s for about a year and a half now and they have been really solid without any issues. The app will never be considered a good app, but they are constantly working on it and it is absolutely useable and does the job. Just needs a bit of messing around with to figure out.
Nice! Looking forward to really digging into the capabilities and app.
Hell yeah! I’ve been waiting for this 🤙🏻
I’m sort of surprised there’s not more coverage out there on this yet.
@ Same! But I’m glad your doing it for the community. I’ve been looking for an upgrade that isn’t gonna break the bank. Depending on how this will test out I’m seriously considering buying 2 of these
@ I cannot afford nor stomach the obscene costs of this industry any longer. I am intensely focused on exploring affordable options going forward, on my small channel. Thank you for the support, my friend!
If you gave up before the end of the video, be sure to go back and watch the end. I spotted a wicked feature I missed on my first run through.
Also does this have app control?
@@audiomanmik They do not. These are simple on/off LED bars that put out a unique spectrum I was seeking. I have them on smart dimmer outlets.
@@kalamazoo_reefer smart dimmer? meaning you control the current output of the dimmer which in turns dimmers the light?
@ Yeah, it’s a Kasa smart dimmer outlet. I can dim the light to the intensity I want, and also schedule its function.
@@kalamazoo_reefer oh okay thanks for sharing.
@@kalamazoo_reefer could you share a link of the dimmer outlet please?
I am not trolling here: If you were still making co-operate money would yo have purchased these?
@@audiomanmik Co-operate money? What is that? I don’t accept free gear or money from any entity in this hobby. It is the basis of my platform.
@@kalamazoo_reefer In an older vidoes you said you worked a higher paying job. Now you are a teacher. If you were still at the higher paying job (which I assumed was a co-operate job, i.e co-operate money) would these have even been on your radar?.. I am in no one saying you have sold out or paid to make reviews.
@ Ohhhhhh I just misread what you were saying. That’s a great question actually. I wasn’t attracted to alternative options for the price. I was attracted to them because the major companies in the world of “Big Reefing” violate my own moral compass.
@@kalamazoo_reefer I 1000% feel you. There are some many companies that make it hard for me to spent money with. The list is getting longer and longer sadly. I can't spend money with a retailer that's a monoloply for example. Shopping takes longer, but I learn so much looking at other companies. It would be cool to see a video on those morals, no pressure tho. Keep it up. :)
Off topic, but what brand auto feeder are you using that was sitting on top of the power banks?
Ha, good eye! It’s just some Amazon special from China. Can’t recall the name. You’ll know it when you look for auto-feeders on Amazon. It has a blue back, all blue around the programming buttons. Most of the others are black or green.
Im currently shopping for a battery backup but i am not very tech savvy. Do you leave your pumps plugged into this unit 24/7 incase of a power outtage? Or do you manually connect it if a power outtage happens?
@@HeftyReefs Always plugged in. It operates just like a UPS would!
@kalamazoo_reefer so with an mp40 do you use the DC plug and connect that to the unit or the physical power plug?
@ The physical standard AC plug on the front of the unit.
Has anyone tried running a couple pumps and can you get them to run in anti-sync; I’d like to put one on either side of a tank and have them alternate which is pushing
I noticed they already have a dmp-m model that adds bluetooth and wifi. Any idea if that means they can be controlled remotely?
@@davidhahn79 All of mine are Bluetooth only. Hadn’t seen the WiFi version.
Hi, what is the lenght of the dry side ? Please .if possible in centimeters. Best Regards.
Thank you for great video, where can we buy the interceptor without rx, it is hard to find??
This comment is not related to this video per se. But it’s about the pumps in general. I ordered a QMP 30. Put it in my tank. But the magnet isn’t strong enough to hold the pump in place. It’s supposed to work on glass 19 mm thick but it doesn’t. Just a warning to everyone.
Ah, you mean DMP-30. So on 3/4” glass, a DMP-30 does not hold via magnetism alone? Got it. Did the suction cups not help? My DMP-10 doesn’t have the magnetism to go through my nano tank’s glass, which is thick glass for a nano. However, the suction cups render the magnetism void. After I used the zip-tie bracket on the cord, the suction cups + magnets were plenty strong to keep those wavemakers in place.
@ I didn’t use the zip ties, I’ll try that. The wet side seems to hold with the suction cup assistance but when I got home the dry side was on the floor
@ Yeah, I’d use the little plastic bracket and zip ties in the box. Attach them to the cord and hang the cord above the dryside. It keeps it flush to the glass for me.
oh shieeet so they cloned vortechs, thx for video, will try to order a gift for my self :D
That would be a sand Tire or a paddle tire😂
LOL can you tell I’m a seasoned expert when it comes to vehicles? 🤣
Nice review!
@@RobBzReef Thank you, sir!

I was looking at this about a week ago. Tbf it was only about £20. But by the time I’d added postage to the uk it was £40..I’m just going to wait untill someone adds the file to thingiverse and I’ll 3d print one
Thanks Mr ambassador for the amazing review . That guard design is stunning
@@Malick_ibn_dinar Very cool. The 3D community always blows my mind. These dudes are wizards!
I was planning to buy a wave maker for my newly set up 20long. Thanks for sharing/posting this video. On a side note, how do you like the light? I was thinking about picking up a nicrew 100/150 also.
Really love the light. It’s been excellent. Just got some fresh corals for that tank and they’re thriving.
@@kalamazoo_reefer nice👍
Are the propeller guards interchangeable between the Jebao dmp10 and the Ecotech mp10? As in: could I use a nem guard designed for the mp10 on my dmp10?
@@HairyReefFrog likely not, because the VorTech and DMP cages actually twist off in different directions.
One method I've used is the first mechanical method, but also have a small siphon hose and small net to suck up the bubbles. A helper is useful for that.
Since you seem to have tried out most sizes of these pumps, what size would you use on a 90 gallon(48"x18"x24") reef? Mostly LPS with a few easy SPS(montis, pocillopora, and stylo.)
@@davidhahn79 I’ve tried them all. I own all 4 iterations now. Haha! In my opinion, you’d be best rolling with 3-4 DMP-30s. I think the 30 is the strongest entry in this lineup. I run two 30s on one end of my 80 gallon, and a -40 on the other end. If I could do it again, I’d go with four 30s. Two on each end. The 30 just feels ridiculously solid in all aspects to me. The 40 is fine. I just have a preference for the 30 because it feels so dang solid all around.
@@kalamazoo_reefer Thanks. I ordered a 30. I want to try it out. I'm thinking of two on the side close to the wall, and either an eow or crossflow vertically on the backwall of the other side so I can keep that side view clear.
