"Her stepmother and stepsisters, mistaking her reseliance for weakness, ever misused her."
That is the most perfect way to describe the way the world views Ella's story. Just cause she smiled doesn't mean she wasn't sad. More people need to wake up and see that.

I recently rewatched the animated version, and by the end I was surprised why in my teenage years I ever thought her weak. Strength doesn't always equate swinging swords and kicking arse. To endure that harsh environment with a smile and a hope that never falters, that is strength.

They like to blame an abuse victim for not fighting her abusers and that's so unfair and so ignorant to any psychological damage that years of abuse cause. Another thing that makes me mad is how they use Cinderella as model of a bad feminist who just cooks and cleans and waits for a man to save her. It was the opposite! She actually saved herself, she invented a functional coping mechanism for herself, she stayed positive in a hellish environment, and when she rebelled and went to the ball, she saw how good life can be and married the prince. Cinderella is incredibly kick-ass. Saying that her traditionally feminine traits, like being caring, gentle, optimistic and resilient are bad and saying she should have done more traditionally masculine things like fight her mother or escape is actually pretty sexist.

Extremely important scene in my opinion. Explains why she left the house forever with little attachment to it. Aside from unpleasant memories of abuse, Lady Tremaine wiped the house out of all items which held any sentimental value making it even a more hostile prison.

I wish this scene had been left in the film. Without it, we never really see Ella grieving, and there seems to be no transition from the time that Ella learns that her father is dead, from when she is just about to go to the ball, and she seems to recover from his loss more easily than would be expected in such a situation. Here we can see that she's a lot more affected by her father's passing than is indicated in the final version of the film, and how the household changes afterwards, including the cold treatment dished out to her by the stepmother and her girls. I thought it was also very kind of trader to let Ella have the gift her father gave her for free. He probably knew Ella well, sympathized with her and knew something of what she was going through with her wicked stepmother and two crazy stepsisters!

She could easily take the stepfamily on 🤣 it's like advanced weights in a pump class or something, but she's by nature very patient and kind and it takes a lot for her to have 'had enough.' Even then, she fights more with a simple set of words and rebelling/walking away rather than punching anyone (not that I couldn't understand if she went that route 🤣).

Lady Tremaine's face when Ella was picking those buckets of water would've made anyone want to punch her in the face...I know Ella promise to her mother to "have courage and be kind", but I also know for sure that Ella's mother wasn't expecting to see her daughter not doing anything about the abuse...after all, isn't standing up to herself also considered courage?

  • @pecahalloween

To be honest, this is the best Disney remake. Cinderella is a motivation towards anyone who suffers mistreatment and abuse. Seeing her not being included at diner, not even getting a black dress for her own father's funeral is just damn awful. And after all the mistreatment, Cinderella is just too kind and forgives the three crows. Cinderella could not throw them out, maybe she was just too kind to let them live on the street. And I think that we should not admire Cinderella for her beauty that goes with kindness, but with scenes like this, where she is shown to be emotional, not a romance-hungry damsel in distress.

  • @gargoylecat2179
    @gargoylecat2179 3 роки тому +4

I am glad they cut this because it kinda humanizes Lady Tremaine as a grieving widow. But the movie version I see her more as what she should be which is essentially a gold digger. She played Ella's father and tolerated Ella and when he dies she was just another reminder to Lady Tremaine that she is back to being poor and was another mouth to feed. And she was envious that Ella was beautiful and young because she wishes she could go back and has it easier like Ella did.

It doesn't make sense to me. Ella is at an age where the household would have went to her. The step mother wouldn't have much claim to. Unlike if he had died when Cinderella was a child. Then of course it would go to the step mother because she would have been too young. That's why it was more impactful in the original. Cinderella was a child when she lost her innocence.

  • @PhryneMnesarete

This is really cruel. To us today, it just means the stepmother is being unkind. But in the 18th or 19th century, when this would have been set (bombazine was mostly worn for mourning in the 19th) wearing mourning clothes served two purposes. First, it was to honour the dead: by wearing mourning, you were showing your love, your loyalty and your care for the deceased. Second, it was to let other people know that you were bereaved, so that they would treat you gently, and you would not be expected to do stressful or upsetting things. By denying Ella the chance to put on mourning clothes, Lady Tremaine is denying Ella the chance to do her duty toward her father whom she loved, and refusing to let a young orphan have any time or space to come to terms with her grief.

God is always there and he loves us. If her situation had improved earlier, she wouldn't have met the prince and gotten the happy ending that we all love so much. She was already loving, compassionate and patient but I'm sure this ordeal only increased her resilience and her belief in herself and allowed her to grow as a person and that's also true with many of the hardships each of us face. Her patience paid off in the end and she not only got out of the terrible situation but found the one she loves as well.

🌸 that’s so horrible for her to lose all her parents cherished possessions, all of which have sentimental value ✨
I’m glad she got one treasured item back
A very long time ago after my dad died a week before I was born, mom struggled with my brother who’s autistic & learning difficulties due to brain damage at birth. So she moved back home to her mom’s home. Her 3 younger sisters were still there. Sadly my granny died and my mom’s youngest sister’s last two took dislike to me. With the abuse I never told my mom because I knew we had no where else to go & they threatened to start on my older brother. So I remained very quiet. It started age 2.5 to age 8. Years later we left and I fell in love with Cinderella story. I did all chores to help my poor mom & it was lots. This simple fairy tale gave me so much hope that dreams do come true I kept my chin up
I’m grown now and I still love this tale 💕❤️✨
