  • Many folks don't know the advantage of the massive headroom built into modern Pioneer DJ/AlphaTheta gear. This clip from my euphonia demo video explains not only the power of euphonia's ESS Technology converter and Rupet Neve transformer, but how each of the ESS Technology equipped pro DJ gear from AlphaTheta is affected, along with the different voicings are on the other products!

    3:33 slight correction: When playing the signal before the sweetspot, the digital voicing is actually more like the DJM-V10 than the DJM-A9.

      You just shot yourself in the foot by making such a (truthful?) claim. So what you’re basically saying is that the euphonia sounds just like the V10 until or unless you hit the G spot. How ridiculous is that. The neve transformers are some placebo effect wrapped in marketing snake oil

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  2 місяці тому

      @@ReticuliI actually had a conversation with one of the product developers who explained to me that the voicing of euphonia starts with one like the DJM-V10, and not the A9. If you wish, I recommend measuring the transient response yourself between the the different units.

    • @priyonjoni

      How is it ridiculous when you can audibly the effect of the Neve transformer's saturation when you push the gains? This is, once again, why it was demonstrated by playing it into the red so there would be no doubt about what's happening on and above the indicated sweetpsot. Also, the results of transformer are easily measurable as well whether it is under, on, as well as above the sweetspot. Feel free to try it, or listen with your own ears. this is very very interesting, thanks for sharing. If im gonna spend $7.5k (New Zealand dollars) i was hoping there was a compresser function like the v10 for all my old disco and soul tracks. Doesnt look like there is, but this trick to pump the trim and get the transformer engaged is a nice workaround...

    Great explanation. Next video idea. "What is a Transient ?"

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  2 місяці тому +2

      Yeah that would be a good one! For anyone else reading, a transient is the initial peak of a sound, essentially the first spike in a waveform. Voicing can sometimes control how tight or loose these transients are.

      In system dynamics, which is an important part of signal processing, this is related to the damping factor. Over-damped means the system is more sluggish to respond and might not reach the desired magnitude of the input, but under-damped can lead to excessive overshoot and ringing. This effects all response, not just the initial peak or rise... fall time, too, and both small (quiet) and large (loud) inputs. In audio DSP stuff, this is often a result of the type of anti-aliasing low-pass filters used, such as in sample rate conversions, but it can also be a result of digital effects, tone controls, and ADC/DAC stages.

    Hi PJ. Can you do an another video where you mix two tracks without the eq on your Euphonia mixer? Thanks

      @priyonjoni  2 місяці тому +1

      I actually already have. In my performance video, I used no EQ or little EQ during several transitions. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/Z-APQb2i4Jc/v-deo.htmlsi=uzSLG14R9RCNikR3

    What is the theory with pushing the ‘crompessor’ knobs on the V10 to unleash a richer sound..? I mean that, even if it isn’t particularly necessary to balance volumes?
    I have to say, I feel I’m a bit of an idiot for not doing what I thinks work in favour of maintaining what constitutes normal 🙃
    I did order the Euphonia but I’m just gonna stick with the V10. Failure to add Pro DJ Link is loss too great to overlook
    Great info on the mixers 👍

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  2 місяці тому +3

      As you might or might not know, the peak volume of music isn’t really the indication of how loud a track is perceived. You can take a track from the 80s and match its peak to a pop track from today, and despite the matching peaks, the newer track sound significantly louder. Tracks today are mixed and mastered in a way that is relatively louder than track previously. The loudness comes from the average intensity of the audio signal. Often measured by RMS or LUFS.
      On the V10, the reason for the compressor is to help take a track with a low RMS and help lift its loudness to match a playing track. This is most helpful for when you’re playing live with a groove machine, drum machine, synth, or sampler which won’t have prerecorded mastering. The purpose of each channel compressor on the DJM-V10 is to give the DJ control to match the loudness of different sources.
      It’s not the same purpose as the transformer on euphonia, which affects the overall output. They are entirely different tools used for different reasons.

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  2 місяці тому

      With the V10 it's a totally different reason. The compressor is very clean and primarily for increasing the loudness of a single channel. The whole idea is to give the user capability to increase the loudness of a playing channel without increasing the peak. This helps it play well next to a mastered track. This is also extremely useful when you're running a sampler, synth or drum machine with a raw playback of instruments, samples or drums. It controls the dynamics so the perceived levels line up better when mixed with full mastered recorded music. While the V10 compresses what is on the channel on euphonia, the transformer is compressing and saturating the summed audio. Different use cases.

    So you won’t hear the neve sonic signature unless you keep fingering the euphonia until you hit the G spot ! This is utterly ridiculous. If I were to spend that much money on a mixer I want to hear the neve’s from the get go. In other words I want the “sweet spot” all across the board

    It’s still could’ve been run under the name Pioneer DJ. This new company is killing brand recognization. I see Denon DJ overtaking if AlphaThata keeps up this.

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  2 місяці тому +3

      Killing brand recognition? But your comment recognizes the relationship between the AlphaTheta and Pioneer DJ brands. That disproves any claim of the lack of recognition, when you recognize the relation and affiliation. May I add that when you watch the official global video ( ua-cam.com/video/Q5yABhSkGiY/v-deo.htmlsi=8dKYAGN6CIa5X_2b ), the lead product planner behind euphonia has been with the company since 1999, among the first generation of developers when Pioneer DJ was a division of the Pioneer Corporation. In fact, the current CEO of AlphaTheta, happens to be one of the original engineers behind the first product, the CDJ-500 in 1994. So the engineers and developers behind the 30 years of Pioneer DJ products are the same folks behind the AlphaTheta products, including those who developed and engineered euphonia. So I have to ask you, what is more important about a product? The logo? Or the engineering, development, and experience behind building it?

    • @TheDJLab

      Pioneer DJ name is old. Alpha Theta sounds like the future.
