      Don't get me wrong, Savage was a god on the mic, but I think WWE heavily scripting everything now really hurts their workers. Guys like Gallows and Anderson are legitimately witty and sharp as fuck, but they're not allowed to do anything but recite the dumbass lines creative has for them.
      If they let the wrestlers go out and get over, you'd see more stuff like this today.

    That’s probably one the best advice you could give to kids. Especially from someone like Macho Man.

    • @SilverWolf442
      @SilverWolf442 2 роки тому +2

      What was great about him. He was about that life, got down & dirty, and took no shit. But he wasn't about the small-dick posturing & toxic masculinity about how a man is *supposed* to be.. He was compassionate & intelligent.
      Good contrast is The Undertaker, saying all the current wrestlers are pussies because they play games & spend time looking pretty instead of the dudes he came up with who carried weapons, had to struggle to eat, and busted heads in bars. He's every bit the stereotype of a big meathead wrestler.

    • @BackJlack
      @BackJlack Рік тому +2

      Especially since people of his generation helped push toxic masculinity, it definitely is beautiful to see someone tell young kids (and emotionally neglected adults)that it’s okay to cry and when you are showing pain and still fighting you’re stronger than before.

  • @DefLeppardVanHalen

    5:30 - This is why I always admire Savage more than Hogan, is the fact that he is honest about past steroid use and doesn't skirt around the issue at all.

    • @lampini
      @lampini 8 років тому +48

      he's a man about it ya know. And the entertainer in him made sure to lighten the mood back up with a joke. I really admire him for admitting it.

    • @a.graham7979
      @a.graham7979 7 років тому +20

      He was honest enough to admit that he had done them in the past, but come on. Only a fool would believe he could maintain the physique he did for as long as he did from only "experimenting" with them in the past. He did them for most of his life, and for years after this interview. He was in character here and clearly speaking to the youth, so he was right to lie. He was being Macho Man Randy Savage, not Jewish-Italian American Randy Poffo from Ohio. The truth is that kids taking steroids will destroy their bodies and their lives. Steroids led Randy to an early grave. But for a superstar like Randy at the time he was in the business, they were a necessity. The average person using anabolics will never get a body like he had, but even with the best genetics you aren't going to get a body like he had without anabolics.

    • @a.graham7979
      @a.graham7979 7 років тому +16

      Having said that, he obviously worked his ass off, too. He was a natural athlete from a family of athletes, plus he spent hours everyday in the gym and always ate right. But yeah, he used steroids for decades, which gave him the incredible physique and career he had, but also gave him the enlarged heart that ended his life with a sudden heart attack at age 58. For every shortcut in life, there's a price to pay. He made MILLIONS and it still probably wasn't worth it. He should be alive today. Think about that if you ever consider using performance enhancing drugs. Odds are you will never come even close to being "Macho Man" but you will damage your organs and shorten your life just the same.

    • @YD-uq5fi
      @YD-uq5fi 6 років тому +8

      AND future steroid use. He used Steroids in 1998-2000 which made him huge again. Sadly, this is probably why he died. Had he never taken them again post-1992, he would still be here.

    • @markmullins5822

      +Daniel Santana right? You've seen hogans sit with Arsenio, right? The 15 minutes of Terry playing the victim, trying to set the record straight, tries his utmost to explain why he didn't do anything wrong. Just came off entirely different.
      I always respected macho for this - straight out admitted it, didn't run from it - and then used the opportunity to put out a positive message. I think Vince understood that... He recognized the value in having Randy as a leader and a spokesman.... If only he'd seen his value as a wrestler beyond 1994.

    God, I truly loved watching this man perform. Ironically, it was approximately the time of this interview, 1992, that I last paid full attention to the "sport" of professional wrestling. Admittedly, the "characters" had a truly magnetic effect on me; Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, the Samoans, the Iron Sheik.......these guys had a charisma about them that was unmistakable, they were entertaining as all hell. R.I.P. Macho Man......you did your job.
